Make the City Map useful
interesting idea, honestly the "layout of the city" thing is pretty much a non-issue since *only* hazard zones can't be accessed via trains/ferries these days.

The City Map is useless when the trains can take you from one end to the other with nothing in between. There's never been a 'which direction do I take to Steel Canyon' moment, so I wouldn't mind putting in some functionality.

Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: Yeesssss!

Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!
I would definately support this change!

Neat idea. Perhaps then more people see how ridiculously perma-present some of the normal GMs are.
(and while at it, said map could used a less totally washed out look with higher resolution too)
I approve ^^
Open up the Map tab and take a look. There's something there that many probably have never noticed: Two tabs labelled "Zone" and "City". The Zone map is an essential part of gameplay everyone uses on a constant basis. The City map is not nearly as useful, especially since most people learn the layout of Paragon and the Isles fairly quickly.
Here's an idea on how to change that: tweak things so that the City map actively displays where zone events are taking place. It's really aggravating to miss a rikti/zombie/banner event going on in a nearby zone because you logged in a minute after it started and missed the Event Notice in the chat panel. And don't just limit it to the three happens-anywhere events, you could also have it indicate GMs and other events too. Turn something useless into something at least halfway-useful. |
I love this!

This is a great Idea!!
I use the City Map occasionally blueside, as there's too many zones for me to keep straight, so I disagree with your initial statement that it's useless. I like the idea of putting zone events on there though.
"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill
We will honor the past, and fight to the last, it will be a good way to die...
I also agree with the sentiment. If city maps looked more like the map on the police scanner, with APBs popping up in different zones for Troll raids, GM alerts, etc., it would be more informative, and just plain cool
You could also do the same for the CoV map, for flier patrols, Deathsurge, etc.

There. Now that said, if it's technically possible, sure. It'd be rather nice.
