Vet Costume Unlocks
Well, I hope those coat tails keep the veterans warm as newer players flock to games that don't deny them customisation for arbitrary reasons.

As to the HeroCon models, yes, they are not costume pieces. But they affect the look of your character just as costume pieces do. As mentioned they are far more exclusive than the vet rewards. As I've said before the vet reward program is essentially a frequent flier program. The more miles (active account time) you rack up the more rewards you get. Plain and simple. Don't like it, fly a different airline.

I do believe it needs a major overhaul tbh;
Costumes should remain unlocked how they are at the moment, but also obtainable with recipe drops, but for every milestone that you get a power, you should instead get a token that you can 'buy' a vet power with, and when you respec you can swap to some different vet powers.
City traveller needs to be moved down to something like 12 months, as it is far too game changing to be at 60.
I would also like to see account wide unlocks for event costumes/badges to be added somewhere as well.

Heck both sides can run to a jetpack vendor these days.
The 2 inspirations from the tutorial when sold will more than cover the 10 000 inf necessary.
With Ninja Run available at 4 as well, lets just say City Traveler (which I have) got a whole less useful for me.

City Traveler is far from game changing. I have it, and have noticed that it really only helps in the level 6-14 range, because I don't have to do the safeguard missions to get a travel power. In fact, because we have the temp travel powers that anyone can access at level 5 and 10, they become even less game-changing.

I'll trade vet costumes pieces for more power slots.
City Traveller isn't too game breaking since it only affects the travel powers. How many players are going to completely skip hasten and the recharge bonus it gives on the way to super speed, or combat jumping and the defense/movement bonus it gives on the way to SJ? Granted hover/air superiority and tp friend/foe might have less utility than hasten or but in general I think many players keep that "prereq" power only move where it fits in their build. That or they pick up one of those "prereq" powers such as hasten and then get fly because they like it best.
Sure it can free up a power slot, I skipped TP Friend on the way to Teleport and picked up Havok Punch, but on the same token I now have to change my slotting around from TP Friend that only had the base slot so that I can somewhat slot and effectively use Havok Punch now. That means a slot or two had to come from other powers to make that work. In some ways it's really a balance.
And by the way, I like the thread tags.

...Except, unlike veteran reward costumes, there exists something they can do to get said piece. VR pieces as they currently exist cannot be acquired any other way.
I'm not going to let slippery slopes work. I'm asking to be able to be proactive. Your hypothetical complaints would not be proactive. There is a clear difference. |
Unlockable costumes however, are -not- ebil, even though no one gets them at the start of the game. Vanguard pieces, for example, can't be obtained until level 35, and that's not including the amount of time it takes to earn enough merits. Some players can pull this off much quicker than others.
You do realize this doesn't make any sense, right?
Where do seasonal costumes come in; togas and winter pieces and the like? If a player joins just after the Winter Event and sees someone with a stocking cap, there is no way for them to get that cap until the next Winter Event. And at that, they will have to grind missions just like everyone else, UNLIKE any Vet rewards they would have earned in the amount of time they waited to get that precious stocking cap.

good luck D.B.B.
New costumes aren´t really game changing, as they only will change your looks, but they certainly are desired for some of the players like me...
Right now if you add a very cool Vet Costume Unlock to the game how many people will be locked off from it? I´ve started playing around 13-14 months ago, so if they add a new costume to the next Vet Badge I´ll only have to wait what, 4 more years? Oh yeah, so nice... Are you sure CoX will be here yet? (or even us if the 2012 DOOM is true? lol) Even If I hope this game will last for eternity I can not be that sure, and being locked away from something that cool for that long is quite annoying.
So... Yes for more costumes, no for them being connected to vet badges.
