Why is the Ignore List so limited?
Does anyone know, or care to speculate on why this hasn't been addressed yet?
|

I am very excited about the fact that there seems to be a fix for receiving junk/spam emails from people you don't want to receive them from in game. There is one question I have to go with this, however- why is it that we still can't have more or unlimited room on ignore lists? I put a player on ignore today, and was a little dismayed by the fact that I bumped someone else off of the list. I find it a little vexing that our ignore space is still limited. Does anyone know, or care to speculate on why this hasn't been addressed yet?

Words to the wise aren't necessary- it's the stupid ones that need them.

Because if the ignore list was lnger, 'd have 90% of freedom and 60% of people on the globals ignored.
The more people I meet, the more I'm beginning to root for the zombies.
I'm not sure it matters. I used to have quite a lot of "real" players (non-spammers) on my global ignore list. Now all of them have been bumped off and my entire list is spammers, many of whom have also been bumped off. Even though all the real players I'd been ignoring were bumped, I haven't seen a single message from a name I recall putting on the list. Most of them just don't play anymore, I suspect. That leaves spammers, and the spammers accounts are banned so quickly, that it wouldn't matter if the name was deleted off my ignore list a day after I put it there, that account wouldn't be able to send anyone email.
As someone mentioned earlier, since the email changes, you have other ways to block spammers and can save the ignore list for real players if you choose.

I think it's limited becaue they never expected anyone to ignore 200+ people in the game, let alone MOST of us ignoring 200+ people.
Also, to save space, anytime you see an email and the "from" portion says "empty", just delete the email, the account it came from has already been banned.
That will help, and it's also a safe bet that anyone bumped off your ignore list has already been banned as well*, unless you recognize the name, in which case you can re-ignore them.
*The ignore list goes in order of first ignored, first removed. So, the very first person you ignored will be the first bumped off the list, then the second, and so on.

you can go into your options and set your email to only come from friends or sg members. then you can clean out your igonre box and only keep those in there that are worth it instead of filling it with RMT spammers now.

I doubt that at the time the ignore list space was allocated that they anticipated gold farmers/RMT spams much less that it would become as problematic as it was.

Here's another thing you can do -- use the player notes function to flag people who are a problem. That way you can remind yourself why you're avoiding this person, and if he or she pops off the ignore list for some reason, you can re-add in the event that he or she makes trouble again.

Exactly. I worried about this too, but the truth is, I've never recognized someone as a previously-ignored troublemaker plaguing me after being freed from the ignore list by a spammer. I figure if they're not bothering me now and they're still here, maybe they've reformed.

I do wish there was a better option for allowing friends to send emails - "Friends and Supergroup" is almost completely useless for a lot of people, since it only tracks character name, not global. I don't think I've ever intentionally used the server/local friends list. I make too many characters, so it would be pointless as a way to contact me - I could be on every day for a month and never log in the /friended character again.
*Edit* As far as the list being limited, that other MMO (the one with the orcs and purple elves) only allows you to ignore 25 characters. That list is specific to each of your characters, and isn't shared. So if you're playing your Warlock, and ignore BumHeadJerk, then switch to your Hunter, BumHeadJerk will be able to talk to you (because your Hunter hasn't ignored him yet.) Likewise, if everyone in the zone ignores BumHeadJerk, and he switches to his character ButtHeadJerk, he'll still be able to bother everyone. About the only good point is that that company appears to actually delete spammers when they catch them, since anyone you tag as a spammer will probably pop off the list in a day or two, with a message similar to "Ignore removed from list, as that character no longer exists." Or maybe the spammer deletes the character themselves, either way. (In fact, that might be where the "delete spambot" behavior in CoH comes from, if it's a tactic that works in such a big MMO.)
My understanding is that an empty "from" just means that *character* has been deleted. I know that I've tagged such email as spam, and had other emails (some that still included a character name) disappear as well. The Ignore as Spammer option hits the @Global name, not the character name, I think. Either some spammers don't know that, or they're hoping that players don't know it.
