I think she's one of those people that thinks that the more colors you're wearing, the more stylish you must be

Isn't she possessed by her ancient ancestor, or something? Maybe the fact that her mind exists in a bodiless void makes her desperate for sensation, to the point where she overcompensates by making her environment and her host as bright and garish as possible, all just to stimulate her own memories of what color and sesnation used to be like when she had a body of her own.

Just a theory.

I have to admit, I have always liked The carnie back-decorations, though. And some of the tops. And the boots. Just the colours combinations at times, oh dear...

When the topic comes up, some oversensitive straight people* flood the topic with their complaints that people flaunt their same-sex attractions and make everything about how they're attracted to members of the same sex, while people are properly sedate and dignified about their opposite-sex attractions and never bring them into the game. They go on further to act like there isn't a flood of negativity directed toward same-sex attractions (and in this case, that's aimed at bi people as well as gay and lesbian people) that would make anyone who isn't straight want to join or form a supergroup where that kind of behavior isn't cool.

Is that clearer?

I was only saying I think the thread itself wasn't explicitly heterosexual, and I do think there is such a thing as being generically sexual without explicitly stating orientation. Not easy to do in person, of course, but theoretically possible to do on internet forums.


I don't think you need too much evidence to counter the assertion that heterosexuals as a group (or anyone else) don't express sexuality of any kind in the game or on the forums. That assertion is just plain loony. And in this game, with our costume editor, delusional besides.


Edit, since I left the posting window open too long: for the record, bypassing the above to cut to the base topic, I personally have no problem with SGs promoting themselves as "LGBT-friendly." Although I recognize the special discriminatory situation, I don't even need to resort to using that as a justification since in general I think any time people want to advertise a specific inclusivity that might not be obvious they should be allowed to do so. That overrides anyone's uncomfortableness with the specific inclusivity being advertised. I think LGBT SGs need no special rights beyond the general rights we all have to attempt to connect with people with similar shared backgrounds of any kind in the game. The notion that "sexual orientation" has no place in the game is irrelevant: we can't eat chocolate ice cream in the game either but that's also irrelevant to wanting to connect to players that self-identify as chocolate ice cream lovers. Self-identification is separate from conduct.


Given all of that, I still think this forum thread isn't the best example of anything except the weirdness of our forums.

Although, to be fair, chocolate ice cream lovers aren't likely to encounter people saying horrible crap about them just because it's Tuesday. And part of the problem is that many people can't seem to distinguish between identification and conduct.

I wasn't shouting anyone down here. I made a note of "Oh yeah, this'll be good reference the next time someone says stupid ****" and someone made a stupid neg rep comment that was from someone who clearly misunderstood my point, but replicated some of that stupid **** that gets said. I clarified, and a bit of a side conversation has developed. Please try to keep up.

I disagree. I tend to think people overreact a bit to certain topics. I do agree that I have a bit of a soapbox here, but I do not agree that I have a chip on my shoulder. I could show you where I did this morning, but I edited out a few minutes after posting it. It wasn't in this thread, and had nothing to do with orientation.

Also, the bit about lumping you in? Lots of people really do take this kind of stuff personally like that, and say those exact words without any humor or irony intended.

Ah people...

Use the old fashion method to make people equal, set them all on fire...

Probably not the best stance to take but it does deal with people rather well, everyone is equal when they're on fire.

Trust me, I did scientific studies, I took one from each possible nationality, sexual orientation and gender...set each one of my test subjects on fire (using the exact same amount of petrol with matches that were of a same length and the same phospher[sic] to wood ratio).

Each one of them burned nicely, though there were variances in the language used and the pitch of voice between genders and nationalities, as well as among the various age groups but they did all scream, "oh <profanity or blasphemy here> I'm on <profanity or blasphemy here> fire!"

People, they all burn the same...

Now tasting the same, that's a different matter, not all well cooked people taste the same...
