Holes in game
/stuck
Lots of zones (such as Cimerora) include an instant teleport back to the surface if you fall far enough. Some other zones (like Cimerora originally) you'll just fall until you hit the bottom of the world box. At that point, you could use any of your self-teleport powers (such as the Pocket D teleporter), or the Ouroboros teleporter, Fly back up through the hole, /stuck, or /petition for a GM to get out.

You can also try /sync if you're find yourself rubberbanding/returning to the same spot over and over. If you have a self-teleport power, you can try that or have a friend teleport you. Finally, if nothing else has worked, you can file a petition for a GM to come help you.
This game has many options to get us out of holes and I really appreciate it!

O i see.
I would love to just once fall through the world, just so I can say it happened to me once.
I have gone to find myself. If I get back before I return, Keep me here!

Also, a few patches before the Invention system was added, the entire top of Skyway city was shifted up by enough to fly over the WarWalls... allowing you to explore the outside and underside of the zone... it was really neat looking at things from underground (there's a LOAD of crap under there!), as well as the 'city' outside the war wall.

You know how sometime you might find a hole in the game were you are in places were your not suppose to be. My question is what happens if you fall in one of those never ending holes. Do you get stuck in there for ever or something?
|
As mentioned above, /stuck will get you back into the map. If it doesn't, re-logging will. Or, you can fly/tp up to the map and try to get back through the hole or use tp to pop back into the map.
Because of the possibility of 'falling' through the map, most zone's floors now have an automatic warp that will auto-tp you back to the map. Jump off the Ouroboros platform to experience a warping floor. That also helps get the NPCs back into the map.
Interestingly, while zones have floors, they don't have walls. If you get outside the map, you can fly off in a direction literally for miles.

I once jumped up through a hole in Boomtown while traveling through one of the tunnels. Found a landscape of buildings, jutting at odd angles like giant crystals. Found my way back to the tunnel and found the hole that allowed me back into the real world.
I then /bug it with a /loc coordinates, which everyone should do if they find a map hole.

If you use flight/hover/teleport/etc to get NEAR ground level, /stuck will work and put you back on the map.

Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...
A glitchy hole gave me the ONLY time in 18 months of play that I've taken more than two digits of falling damage. (I'm kind of paranoid about heights, you might say)
For a while, the last mission of the Redside Midnighter arc was notorious for spawning without the floor. I entered the mission, fell for about a second, and then teleported about three miles downward and took over a hundred thousand falling damage. @_@
Used pocket D port, followed by DROP THIS MISSION OH MY GAWD!
I know, early-ish on in the game (and some later) I used to get taken on tours of all *sorts* of interesting places - like the "tron" blue room under the arena (I think it was,) a hole out on the far side of... must have been Peregrine, past the blue walls, trying to get past the old Faultline wall to the generator/dams...
Then there were the Arachnos maps on release. ugh. Mobs falling down, me fallign through, what a pain. /petition and wait, since I think I was out of Recall Friend range (no "assemble the team" available,) or log out and back in.
Whenever you find a maphole in a mission instance type /where_am_i to get the name of the map, then move to the hole (or as close as you can get) and type /loc to get your current location. When you /bug the maphole, include both the location and the name of the map so that QA can actually find it.

And here is the "Matrix Room" you are referring to under the arena. I featured it in one of my calendars:
June 2009 CoH Calendar
And it IS still possible to get there. There are several methods of getting there. One of them isn't even by using the hole in the map, but exploiting a game mechanic with doors instead. I brought a "Tour" there just last night as a matter of fact.. as well as under Croatoa.
(Don't worry, I don't leave anybody stranded. I let people know ahead of time that there is a possibility of getting stuck if they don't have Ouro portal, and I always offer to TP them out if they don't have one of their own.)
A landscape of buildings jutting at odd angles like giant crystals. Strange how that's so different from the regular Boomtown.

And since once you are on the flip side you can still see "out" into the real world so you do see the entire building jutting into the sky.

There are still holes in the many arachnos maps... in the ceiling of almost every elevator room. I've bugged it several times.

I did fly around under atlas park some a few issues back when there was a hole in the Vanguard base there. Kind of fun being on the other side of the war walls, even if the "buildings" aren't really solid. I wanted to find the upside down section of city hall, but I could never manage to get far enough down to find the inside area -- I think it was below the "floor" that TPs you back up to the northeast section.
as well as under Croatoa. |
I've gotten out of the instanced Croatoa sub-maps a couple times. The baby new year map is particularly easy.
I think they did fix the bug where teleporting just as you entered a mission would sometimes reset your location to 0,0,0. That one was fun. Discovered it by accident on the Valentines day mission -- my blaster ended up outside of the walled off area and got to wander around a spooky ghost town version of Sharkhead
I had a hole in my base for a while, But it fixed its self when I was editing the room.Had fun with it for a few days.
Well thats cool

I once had a mission that was missing most of the map. It was in early CoV on a Longbow mission in one of their tech bases. I turned a corner and fell into a black void. If I recall correctly, I /petitioned it, then logged out and it was fixed when I logged in a few days later.
Not only that, but last I checked the central building in Grandville had the same hole as the instanced maps that you can TP out through. I'll have to see if it's still there and maybe /bug it again.

As far as Croatoa is concerned.. You are right, the instanced maps are usually pretty easy, but the actual Zone usually has a floor or wall blocking. The hole is located in the SE corner.

Ah, found it, thanks. That satisfied my curiosity
I hit a hole while working on my latest arc (see sig! SEE SIG!! ).
I was using that "move to next goal" or whatever they call it button on the editor screen and suddenly I was falling down, down... my toon was a lowbie but fortunately already had her raptorpack so I hovered up and took a few screenshots, something I always do when I fall through a map.
One of those screenies was my desktop for a while.
OH.. I dont' know how I forgot.. you can get under the Orenbega Cave maps also. There is a glitch in the sliding door.. the one that you usually have to open for the Boss room.
