So, the valuable lesson to take away from this thread is to thoroughly check, double check, and triple check any perceived problem before saying its broken

On my level 50 AR/NRG Blaster, unbuffed, I found a mob of level 50 Nemesis and activated Self Destruction

Gewehr Jaeger bashes you with his Jaeger Mace for 103.97 points of smashing damage!
Pew Pew Thwomp blasts you with a Self Destruction for 231.06 points of smashing damage!
You blast Pew Pew Thwomp with your Self Destruction for 231.06 points of Smashing damage.
Pew Pew Thwomp blasts you with a Self Destruction for 250.85 points of Fire damage!
You blast Pew Pew Thwomp with your Self Destruction for 250.85 points of Fire damage.
You blast Dragoon with your Self Destruction for 267.71 points of Smashing damage.
You blast Dragoon with your Self Destruction for 267.71 points of Fire damage.
You gain 973 influence.
Legends of Justice gains 13 prestige.
You received Temporal Analyzer.
You blast Gewehr Jaeger with your Self Destruction for 307.87 points of Smashing damage.
ou blast Gewehr Jaeger with your Self Destruction for 267.71 points of Fire damage.
You gain 876 influence.
Legends of Justice gains 12 prestige.
You blast Gewehr Jaeger with your Self Destruction for 307.87 points of Smashing damage.
You blast Gewehr Jaeger with your Self Destruction for 267.71 points of Fire damage.
You gain 876 influence.
Legends of Justice gains 12 prestige.
You received Respite.
You Self Destruct, hitting yourself for 3212.68 points of damage.

You Self Destruct, hitting yourself for 3212.68 points of damage.
You Self Destruct, hitting yourself for 3212.68 points of damage.

So, probably the perceived lack of damage was an aberation. Anyways, enjoy your weekend and happy "talk like a pirate day!" (Although it's tomorrow lol)

The problem people often have with SD is usually that it tends to miss a lot, because the accuracy is base. But due to the way accuracy works, just hitting Build Up, Aim or popping a yellow or two will greatly help.

I've done that to myself as a prank. Also suggested it a couple times here on the forums. I very rarely get any use out of the power, so I felt it would be better off as a joke to play on myself than to do anything serious with it.

i have an Invuln/SS Tanker named Scrapyard Joe on two servers who has Self Destruct set to auto. He's a robot(?) that was put together by the owner of a junkyard where a lot of destroyed hero and villain gear gets dumped. Sort of resembles a mass of battered, mismatched robotic and cybernetic parts. Thoroughly nice fellow even if he is a bit glitchy and prone to exploding.

I think the damage for Self-Destruction is fine, extra damage would be nice but nothing in comparison to accuracy. Whenever I try using the power, I usually get around 1-3 enemies around half the time, and all the other enemies just stand there like 'Ho hum...'.

If the accuracy was set higher, 1.2x or even 1.1x, it would be less frustrating when a group gets away from a string of bad-luck misses. For a power you have to pay $10 for, I would expect a 90-95% hit rate on a power that kills me and can only be activated per hour.

Self Destruct -> Rise of the Phoenix. Wonderful little mix if you're gonna die anyways. Get a little rooting in there from a teammate and deal double nuke damage. Works well with Soul Transfer, actually.

I do agree, though, that a power that basically kills you does a little less damage than I was actually expecting.

In my view you pay $10 for the costume pieces and the power and emotes are free. The costume pieces were definitely emphasized more in the promotion of the pack. Or you could look at it as being a less than $1 power if you divided the cost of the pack by the number of costume pieces and powers it gave you and counted the emotes as being freebies.

i tend to pop a yellow or two right before triggering the power anyway. i rarely use it past the early teens, and at that level it easily decimates even con minions and lieutenants, and will even take out bosses if you soften them up a bit first. If you can lay out a bit of AoE before exploding it's easy to wipe out most +1 or +2 enemies in the early levels. After that i generally only use it for the occasional amusing moment. Like right before i'm about to level. Dingrezzing from Self Destruct xp is very amusing to me.

Still, given the really nice stuff we've gotten lately, between the tarot buff and ninja run, I'd really like to see something done with SD. It's a mini-nuke you can only use once an hour. A lot of times it barely wipes minions assuming it hits. And it kills you in the process. Even if it was autohit, you can only do it once an hour, so I can't see any overpower potential. 1.2x accuracy would be very nice, though I'd love to spring for the 1.4x that nukes usually have.

For a power that's made to sound like "If I go down I'm taking you with me!" it really doesn't do that. The damage will only kill minions (which is enough to preserve the "feel" of the power, so I won't complain), but worst of all it will miss like crazy without some ToHit buffs.

the power works very nicely as a transport to the hospital before you log for the day job badge =)

plus it's not like your gona be on that char again within an hour so it's avaliable all the time =D

Ps: love the malfunctioning robot concept =P, think i might try that on my bot char

Try, with a Rad on the team, to self-destruct, then the Rad can use Fallout which causes nice damage, plus debuffs about everything, then you can Rise of the Phoenix to finish off the rest, if there are any. Boom-bada-boom!

The other day I was playing my lvl 4 scrapper and decided it was a good idea to set my team level to 4 people/-1 level to see if i could level faster... after about 3 seconds of getting beaten on, I was out of insp, and ready to eat pavement.

So I hit my self-destruct since I was going down anyways, and I get faceplanted mid countdown... but wait! Self destruct keeps counting down even though I am defeated, and I explode with a vengeance on the foul mobs who gave me the beating, finishing them off and getting me enough xp to level up and get the auto rez insp spam!

I then proceeded to pwn face on the rest of the surviving mobs, before calmly exiting the mission going to level up, and resettting my diff level to something more lvl 4 appropriate (the timer on self destruct is just too long to count on it for every spawn )

Does Fallout need to target a body? Because SD doesn't leave any, though most people don't know that you can still pass wakies through the 'give to player' menu.

Howling Twilight and other non-target powers work fine though.
