The Tough, The Bad, The Difficult

Each of us has a set of NPCs that we hate to run into. I'm not talking about entire groups (although I can think of a few), I'm talking about specific enemies. I know what's on my list (below), who's on yours?

Nictus: Shadow Cyst Crystals
Void Hunters: Void Seeker, Void Stalkers, Void Slayers.
Malta Group: Sappers
Carnival of Shadows: Ring Mistresses and Master Illusionists
Circle of Thorns: Earth Thorn Casters, Spectral Daemons, Spectral Followers, and Spectral Daemon Lords
Knives of Artemis: Mercenaries
Vahzilok: Enbalmed Abominations and Mortificators

Badge.

Oh, wait, NPCs? Damn...

Malta Sappers and Carnival of Shadows Illusionists/Ring Mistresses for sure, and also Mother Mayhem's little band of helpers. Psychics are bad news...

City of Heroes taught me that when the world is burning, you don't just stand by and watch, you grab a fire extinguisher and do whatever you can to stop it-even if it's not much at all. Sign the petition to keep City of Heroes alive HERE.

I agree with your roster of most unloved NPC mobs, with the possible exception of the Shadow Cyst Crystals. A long time ago I figured out a highly effective way of dealing with them, Sooner polished it up and made it into a guide for others to utilize. As long as you see them first, they can be dispatched quickly. All the others, when encountered in their respective level ranges, present unpleasant challenges whether you see them first or they see you.

Oh, I forgot about FBZ. The Elementals out there... those are some nasty $%^&*()@#!!!

If you stand and fight them, be ready for a good fight for sure.

One more, the Rogue Vanguard troops. No matter what AT you are, those troops pack quite a punch. One of the most challenging NPC mobs around.

I just thought of one that is more annoying than difficult, but still noteworthy...

Crey: Paragon Protectors (particularly the ones with MoG)

And I forgot about the Rogue Vanguard, they are nasty!

Rogue vanguard bosses. ug. - max end is nasty... Id venture to say that debuff is the single most nasty debuff in game.

Everything else my main hero can handle, within an acceptable margin for a scrapper.

But those and snipers are tip-top reason I don't think defense alone is ever an acceptable tanking mitigation (sorry Ice Armor Tankers and Super Reflex/Energy Aura Brutes, you guys need to start rollin' with Thermal Radiations and Sonic Resonance).

How about the Sky Raiders' Force Field Generators and the Malta's Auto Turrets? Those things are a pain to kill.

The biggest challenge for Trick Arrow Defender at the early levels were Clockwork.

My most disliked NPC?

Hm...

Domi's goons. They're so stupid-looking, yet take SO LONG to kill!

Low-level:
Tsoo Sorcerors are a PITA with their teleport
and I used to dread having to face Tsoo Yellow Ink Men (frigging Mesmerize)

high-level:
Rogue Vanguard, by a mile...

I would have described this as Ice and I worked out the strategy together, and then drafted it up together and I posted it, with, as I recall, full credit offered to Ice.

But... at any rate...

Ya.. if you know how to handle a cyst crystal, then they're no biggie.

I usually wait until the team wipes because they didn't listen then go in and kill it.

Tech Support Rule #1 - They will lie to you. Usually intentionally.

Also a viable strategy.

On my Necro/Dark I hate running into anything with Fire.
Longbow Flamethrowers and the like.
I can take on a huge crowd of mobs without issue... Unless one of em launches a fire attack, then my cadre of cannibals run like babies.

On my Blasters its usually anything with Mez, I end up targetting them 1st out of habit.

I also dislike.
Sky Raider Engineers (stupid FF gen)
Tsoo Sorcerors (on anything melee)
Vanguard Wizards

Maestro Mavius - Infinity
Capt. Biohazrd - PCSAR
Talsor Tech - Talsorian Guard
Keep Calm & Chive On!

Yeah I think my most hated (pending level and character really) are:

Malta: Sappers (the little suckers), Operational Engineers (turrets with terrets (always shooting off))
Sky Raiders: Engineers (FF Gening their way out of trouble)
Tsoo: Sorcerors (jumping all around)
Rogue Vanguard: Powerful little things

Blazing Blue 50 fire/fire Blast, BlueStarr 50 PB, BlueSt 50 stone/ss Tank, Purple Pummaler 50 bs/regen Scrap, Green Puritan 50 emp/nrg Def, Raging Red 50 ice/cold Cor,WhiteLightning 50 ill/storm Cont, GrayMatter 44 WS,Green Marauder 24 nrg/stone Brute,Dark Blue Blaze 26 fire/fire Cor,etc

Personally, I hate very few NPCS, because, hey, I'm used to being pounded to a pulp. Heck, Suicide Runs describe my standard strategy.

The ones I hate most though, are Ghosts, both the Croatoa ones, and the higher level ones. I also really hate Sappers and Gunslingers.

Ooh! Another one that grinds my gears...

The Bone Daddies. Bastards are some tough [butt]-holes for the levels you fight them... And they even have Soul Drain, which makes them phenomenally powerful, even against groups!

They're just such a [dog] to fight when you're encountering them!

I'll "let the cat out of the bag" now. The reason for this thread is to accumulate a list of enemies that we hate to face and...

Write a MA story starring these enemies. Hero and villain "volunteers" were "analyzed" (hooked up to a "mind probe" machine and interviewed about their combat experiences) and the "nightmare" enemies were found and put into a simulation (to help them and others overcome their fears). Now this simulation is being opened up to the public through Mission Architect, but first it needs to be beta tested. I don't want to give away too many details and spoil the surprises.

But I just had an idea. Who wants to have a character appear in the arc? Your character would be a ally who's essence/personality is caught in the system as an "echo" that occurred during the analysis. Both heroes and villains are welcome.

To get in on this, please send me the following in a PM:
Character name and gender
AT and Powersets
Costume (please put the information from the costume file in the PM)
The enemies that should be "guarding" the echo of you character.

The first 3 to send me the above in a PM will get in guaranteed. After that, it will depend on file space.

I'll be in contact with you to get text for those that make it into the arc... so who's intereseted?
