Funny, semi-related story. When i15 was released, there was a bugged zone that you could get to from either red or blue side. This zone was not flagged for co-op, so it had HvV PvP without any of the new rules (in otherwords, it was just like i12 PvP).

It only lasted for a day or two, by the time it was fixed, I had seen several times where there were around 50 people in that zone actually PvP'ing. I think that says something about the current mindset involving PvP.

I mistakenly left 2 toons in that zone and had to have support move them after the fix.

Yeah, same thing happened to my controller.

They should have just put a i12 button option n arena instead of all these dumb no dr , no ts and no hd . i really dont care about zone so n my opinion do w/e u want there but arena come on now

BUT the one option i do like so far n arena is the new i16 one with the diff insp allowed , so u can just put small insp only in the option and not have to explain to someone that u werent using tier3s

I forget when exactly it was, but there was a huge event on test (maybe it was the 5th anniversary?) in which there were multiple instances of Pocket D open, and one was flagged for PvP, but since it isn't explicitly a PvP zone or arena, it was using the I12 rules. I heard at the time there was PvP in Pocket D on test, but I thought "meh" and kept on farming because it wouldn't've been worth starting up a copy of the test server just to do the same thing I could do on live. I didn't find out until a few days later that it'd been old-style PvP, and I'm mad I missed it. Of course, the posts pointing out that it'd been old-style and was really fun got modsmacked, go figure.

I really wonder what sort of things could happen if a server were set aside specifically for PvP, or more realistically, what might happen if every few months a "throwback" week was offered, where all PvP zones and arenas reverted to I12 rules with the I13 APP/PPP changes, elusivity, and perhaps the "shields give protection from everything" rule, but not DR, TS, heal decay, mez changes, or base resists. While we might fun such a thing more fun and it might even bring more people into the zones/arena for that time period, unfortunately I don't think the devs have the same view of success as we do - we view something to be successful if it's reasonably balanced by our standards and has a population that makes the activity worthwhile. It seems to me that the devs view something to be a success if it's balanced according to their whims, with what seems to be little regard to the amount of people who participate before and after the changes (ED comes to mind here). Right now, the only server with what could be considered a healthy PvP population is Freedom, and even some times of day it's slow there - sure the other servers have zone and arena population but it's often sporadic and you might see more than ten people in a given zone once or twice a week.

Imagine if he was slotted with slows. Cause I'm sure his i13+ cold build didn't slot for them...because dev's think slows are cheating.

Nah, I was -speed and -rech capped so it wouldn't have mattered. The toon I was on didn't have slow resist at all. ******* Heat Loss.

Of course they don't have the same views. They spend more time looking at the game through a spreadsheet. And guess what? The players actually *gasp* PLAY the game. And it's pretty damn obvious that pvp 2.0 isn't fun, isn't balanced, and isn't attracting more people to pvp.

Haven't PvP'd Much, but I was fairly good at it a while back. I'm an FF/NRG Defender, and while I couldn't kill much, I felt like I helped my team and the PFF hidden under the big bubble was a fun tactic. I felt like a winner when I was able to stalemate and was very happy.

Finally went to PvP the other day and discovered after a few kills, PFF wasn't doing much of anything for me. Death, after death, after death, after death... ForceBolt? Pfffft. Even my single bubbles didn't help the blaster or tanker I was with, so staying back at the base and bubbling didn't help...

This guy is my main, I DO know how to play him... been playing him what 4 yrs or more? Started shortly after the game release and he was one of my first chars... He's all IO'd out with some uniques and whatnot.

I mean, I'm a Defender. I don't expect to kill. I don't even expect to Not die. But really, I couldn't do anything useful there. So not going back. At least, not until my PFF actually Does something.

And no, I don't keep up on the latest changes. I really do play just to have fun, I don't have to Win... just I'd like to be helpful at the least, PFF made me feel strong in one limited way and that was as a frustration to my opponents drawing fire and wasting their time/end. Now, even with all toggles up, I could get a force bolt and start the animation to power blast or something and die while it's going off. repeat. repeat. repeat. repeat. Brute, Stalker, Corruptor... a freaking plant Dom stomped me.

Maybe I *am* just a n00b who doesn't know what he's doing, but either way I'm not PvPing with PFF the way it is. I do know I was alot of fun for those killing me though, because I'm stubborn and kept going out there, *turn around splat*.

You look at like this .. you might have the years.. but maybe that toon is not good no more.. and respecing your main toon to feed another toon that better. Trying making a Rad or a Cold.... or blaster

Oh, here's a combo: Vegemite and natto.

Agreed. The mechanic i liked most in the changes that were suggested prior to i13 was the idea of melee attacks triggering travel power suppression. (But then i have a Night Widow who uses slotted Hurdle and Combat Jumping with lots of movement bonuses instead of a normal travel power.)

A diminishing returns system for heals, buffs and debuffs wouldn't have been so bad if it had been a bit less severe in the diminishment or implemented differently.
Before i13 i liked using my D3's controls and debuffs in zone PvP to assist teams. Far from optimal, likely to get my squishy butt killed, but it was fun.
Marmite better than Vegemite ? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. Ahem ... sorry about that ... Being Australian, I am biased to Vegemite. That being said, there are several different yeast extract spreads all very similar. Vegemite, and Marmite, as you said. Marmite has two versions. The original British Marmite, aswell as one produced in New Zealand (owned by Mars Corp I believe). There is also Promite, and Cenovis. All of them are made from yeast extract, a bi-product of brewing beer.

Here's the trick with those spreads ... SPREAD THEM LIGHTLY! Don't spread it like you would jam or peanut butter.

All of the yeast extract spreads are a love it or hate it taste. Try'em all and see which one you like best. Just make sure it's Vegemite

As for PVP ...

The changes ruined so much fun here in the forums without the PvP Uber-munchkins posting. Now, if we want pure inane drivel, all we have is ELF, Bud, and Felecia to posts to amuse us. Such a shame, really.

LMAO....anywho, complaining about the pvp system that was instituted way back in i13 just drives people away from pvp. if you talk about a real intense fight you had or how fun the recent pvp event was, more people will be drawn to pvp (not entirely the devs' fault people left). thats what you want right? if not, keep up the good work! you are doing a fantastic job of keeping people away from pvp.....i am not blaming any single person here...Meg...but more the griping pvp community as a whole

so dont take personal offense and get mad at me. I am not taking a side as to which pvp system is better, just pointing out that everyone is driving people away from pvp

Good point, Mebs.

To comment strictly on what you said, one does get the feeling, if they read the boards, that a sucky experience in pvp is going to be had regardless of how well they do, broadcast babble or the actual pvp battles themselves because of all the negativity about the entire system and it's participants.

Of course, all the comments regarding all of the above have a glint of validity to them at the very least.

When the pvp'rs (generalized) are dismayed and speak of all the wrong with it it doesn't promote a feeling to someone that makes them want to give it a shot more than a few times. They would go into the experience expecting a negative return.

Just a few of my thoughts.
