Life time access
And when do those other MMOs offer the lifetime option? And when do they pull them off the shelf from purchase?
When you find the answer to that you may realize why we won't get that option here.

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.
Lifetime subscriptions are great ways to make quick money on game startup, to help repay investors quickly. They aren't that great for a game that has been out for 5.5 years. At this point, as much as I love this game, but it will soon begin to fade as newer games come out, vets get burned out on it, etc.
Does this game have enough life left in it to make it worth a lifetime subscription? Does it make economic sense for the Devs to even offer it at this point in the game's life? Do they need a quick infusion of cash more than they need the steady stream of income?

oh im sorry i was under the impression that LoTR online gave lifetime subs and they still sell them on shelves.

Right now, if they offered a 200$ lifetime for this game, I would take it. I'd have to swipe money from my mother's accounts, but I'd take it. However, I'm perfectly happy with the yearly subscription offer and the extra-month bits.
This game's worth my money.

Basing CoX's business model off of CO is a bad idea.
You realize that after a year every single one of their lifetime subs will be playing completely for free forever.
That's a massive revenue loss.
Gave, past tense. I don't think they still do - but I might be wrong on that. Most lifetime sub offers are limited runs. Most lifetime offers are for games which don't appear to have the lifespan this one already has.

I would also take advantage of a lifetime sub for this game but I have to ask myself how NCSoft is going to make up for the loss of revenue.
I have no doubt a great many of us are vets of several years and most if not all would jump at the chance to get a lifetime sub. So where's the money going to come from when the monthly sub fees dry up?
No more free issues every few months, and a shift to paid expansions every couple of years.
An even bigger shift to microtransactions.
Or worse, the game closes its doors.
I believe LoTR offers a lifetime sub with each new expansion and only for a limited time. They also restrict lifetime subs to the US and Canada.

Just to be clear, I would be all over a lifetime sub but I just figure it isn't going to happen. Meanwhile I jump on each of their loyalty things. I think I have 4 free months after the most recent go around.

Didn't mean to imply you wouldn't.
I'm basing my opinions of how detrimental lifetime subs would be to the games revenues on two assumptions.
1. Hardcore vets (36+, 48+, 60+ months) like ourselves make up a significant portion if not the major percentage of the playerbase.
2. 90-100% of those vets would jump at the chance to get a lifetime sub.
I mean of games that ACTUALLY SHIPPED... That was just... a money sink. A gullibility tax.

Then sank.
(Edit: no, I did not pick up a lifetime sub for it. I didn't pick it up at launch due to the irritation of "epic" vs "free" vs "Single player, you're kidding right" content,t he bugs, etc. So I got mine on sale.)
Am I the only person that wants a Memphis_Bill action figure?
I think they would be so cool. It would come with Kung Fu grip, tons of accessories, visual sound effects, and when you push the button in his back it would recite one of his famous cut and pastes about vehicles, or how to search, etc.
And they'd be collectables, each one would speak a different cut and paste!
(I can see it now . . .
Hey Zek! I'll trade you a "How to search " for a "Raising the level cap".
No way Forbin. I only have two complete sets. One set to play with and one to leave in their boxes for my collection.)
Most of the people who'd be willing to pay for a lifetime subscription for this game are equally willing to continue paying the regular fee (not to mention expansions, boosters etc) until the day the servers close.

(Then again, LotrO devs are very US-centric. In the beginning us Europeans used to get all patches and major updates 3-6 weeks after the US. "Localization" was given as the reason for this travesty. I think nowadays they're releasing everything simultaneously, if I'm not mistaken.)
But yeah, I'd pick up the lifetime sub immediately, but it would make no sense for them to stop a major revenue source just so they could make a quick buck.
There's always hope when Going Rogue is released, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Hmm, maybe they could offer lifetime subs as awards in bigger competitions. I think Anarchy Online did that couple of years ago. Would make a great prize.
I'm in Europe and I've got a lifetime sub. Don't know if they've changed the policy afterwards, but it seems insane to offer it solely on the other side of the pond.

"Only players located in the U.S. and Canada (excluding Quebec) who purchase a Pre-order for The Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria (the Expansion), theexpansion to the online PC game known as The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar (the Original Game, and together with the Expansion, the Game) from authorized vendors are eligible for this Pre-order Program (each a Player).
The Pre-order Program includes the following:
- Special pricing options - specifically, either a multi-month subscription plan or a Lifetime Membership plan for online access to the Game "
Seeing how old that info is it's very possible they changed it since it was posted.
That's probably because Codemasters handle LotrO for Europe. You cannot buy a Lifetime Membership from Turbine if you live in the EU, you've got to buy the Codemasters one.
Codemasters even have its own Lotro-website, www.lotro-europe.com.
And there's a Codemasters FAQ from 2008, when the Mines of Moria was released, which explains how to activate the Lifetime Membership. So yeah, us Europeans can get our hands on some Lifetime-sweetness.
But I don't know if that's an ongoing promotion, or just centered around those bigger releases.

Having seperate websites explains why I drew the wrong conclusions from what I read.
LOL, I think that's a new personal best. I killed 2 threads with 1 post.

Well here we are on the eve of another MMO Hero game about to launch from a wll known studio...I still ask this question why has city of heroes not done a life time subsription for those of us that want it. I have stated before in the past that I think this should be a veterian reward (after the five year mark) and that the addtional charge should be between 75-200 dollars. It makes good sence seeing that many MMO's are also offering this one shot treat for those that want it. Any answers to this one NC Soft.....
