Unlit Green Reputation Buttons

While I have some theories, does anyone actually know why there can be a row of green reputation buttons, but some of them are "lit" and bright green, while others are not?

To illustrate, check out this great list by Steelclaw:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...16&postcount=1

Then note the configuration of the rep buttons, which is an example of what I am referring to.

Like I said, I can come up with a few reasonable explanations, but they are simply educated guesses. Is there an official explanation anywhere?

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"

"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."

They're not ripe yet?

Had reached, but is now declining?

Rep given by people without much pull of their own?

Broken?

Intentionally made that way to drive people nutty with curiosity?

Beats me! Don't think there's an official explanation either, but I could be wrong.

I was wondering about this myself. I haven't been able to figure it out either.

EDIT: After looking at the names of the images, the bright green buttons are _pos and the dimly lit ones are _highpos.

Which leads me to believe that after you get enough rep points, the rep meter button changes color.

Everybody over 5 dots (1000rep?) starts getting dark ones added instead.

I used stylish to change high rep to an image of a dunce cap , cause the only way to have that much is by running a rep farm. It may be fun for some people I guess and that's fine, but it defeats the purpose of even having rep, so I just turned mine off.
(I also changed the little black dot for having it off to a crown. lol)

Steelclaw is not a rep farmer.

Word, as it were. There are more than one poster on these boards that are worthy of praise. The row of green blips after Steelclaws name is well deserved. If you don't believe me, go check what he posts.

Of course(almost) no one is going to listen to what I have to say about rep since I am a rep farmer.

I was speaking generally. There are obviously going to be a few exceptions.

It doesn't matter if he is or not. Rep means nothing with all the farmers out there cause you can't tell the difference.
You actually made my point for me.

Now I change it to a tractor to be nicer/more fitting:

That is hilarious What you should do is make the unlit ones the tractor and the lit ones corn or something

ROFL that is a good idea, but what it does is search for 5 consecutive "lit" ones, with dark ones after it, and replaces the whole thing with a tractor. This lets people with "regular" reputation still appear normally.

I shall consider it though. rofl.

Personally, since I care not what a bunch of people that I don't know think of me, I turned it off. Also, since I really prefer to make my own judgements about the quality of people's posts and strictly for my own use, I don't pay any attention to anyone's ... Because the quality of any post is dependent upon its usefulness, pertinence, amusement level, etc. to each individual reader, and because each individual reader has a unique view on these things, I find rep meters to be useless in general. YMMV, of course ...

Let me chime in: Steelclaw deserves every jot of positive rep he has gotten.

That said, thanks to all for affirming that there is no "official" explanation and for offering their own theories.

It may be as simple as going to another shade once you have five buttons. Or it may be a Nemesis plot!

I guess eventually some redname will clear it all up for us. Or Lord Nemesis will.

I have no idea what you're talking about, my name's always been like this...

My guess they alternate color in groups of five. First five bright, next five dim.

You know we're always gonna call you PK no matter what you change it to, right?

I've come to accept this fact, yes.

There is a "Raise the Rep" thread in the "Just for Fun > Forum Games" section that would disagree with you. There are people with 11 and more "bubs" and only the first 5 are "lit". I'm waiting to see if it ever stops, changes color again, or moves to a second line. rofl

BTW, I only guessed at it being 1000rep because some brief research leading me to believe the default on vBulletin boards is for each dot to represent 200rep. The administrators can of course change this to any value they like. I haven't paid attention to mine, and kept it off, so I don't know whether it holds true on this board as well.

I blame Jellybean Diversification. Clearly, if you have too many jellybeans, their effect becomes weaker.

According to the link posted earlier, the first few jellybeans are for every 100 rep, and then it changes color when it starts doing one for every 200.
