Dear Anonymous

So the authors of the new forum, in their infinite wisdom (holds up sarcasm sign),
have given a way to post messages anonymously and say anything without (as far as I can tell)
chance of a reply. I'm wondering what people think of this.

My thoughts...
My initial reaction to this is negative, if you have something to say then say it
out in the open. If a public forum isn't the place for it then send a PM.
Both ways require people to be accountable for their words.

If we must have a way to post anonymously then (I feel) there should also be a
button to respond anonymously. They don't know you and you don't know them but
it's fair to both parties... it may even reduce the amount of public flames wars.
If your anonymous chat goes nowhere fine but some people might actually
(GASP) come to an understanding even if they just agree to disagree... all without
involving the rest of the forums.

My second reaction was to notice that I had received many positive rep points and
only 2 (so far lol) negative ones so it can be a good thing too. A way to do a good
turn for someone whom you agree with or who has done something nice for you.
In that situation I would still like an anonymous reply button so I could say I don't know
who all you people are but thank you for the +Rep.

So what do people think of the Rep system?

rep is okay its not really a big deal though if it get removed i don't care it says nothing about the person. as for the anonymous reply button i only see one issue with it and that is that some one can reply to one subject 10 times and can act like it is one person. This can be issue for things like voting for fan art and also can make it seem like there are many people to agree or disagree with something when there really it is one person pulling the strings. Sure it might be useful for a lot of people but its to easy to miss use.

I wish my rep was still negative, because it only shows how flawed a system of semi-public opinion voting is. Everybody is too concerned with playing nice with the neighbors to say anything that would ruin their precious rep.

I choose to ignore the rep system completely, which is why I disabled it.

I prefer to leave it on, since it amuses me. But my rep is now positive. I mean, whassup wit that? :3

I notice the rep system but haven't cared whether it's given me positive of negative reactions, just the same as my AE arcs. I made them for what I wanted them to be and if people don't play them, don't care. I like 'em. And the forums rep doesn't change much of who likes me and who don't and vice versa. Like Suichiro says, it's a mild entertainment.

I kind of find it funny that the new and improved boards have features they intentionally disabled on the old boards. I remember when they axed the stars for users.

considering you can just turn it off and that there is already forum games to boost or lower folks reps why bother caring .

id be more concerned if say I suddenly got pm's from suichi or shia (peoples oponions that actually matter to me ) saying "Deebs are you okay ? you seem a bit too involved/angry about this "

but random person whom I have no interaction with (even if they left their name ) I just roll my virtual eyes at .

At the end of the day the only person I need to get good (or at least neutral ) Marks from are my close friends and Ocho or Mod 8 (well I guess other mods but they never send me notes :P )

Meh. Like rep means anything. Someone gave me bad rep for teasing Sorah, who I'm pretty close friends with.

I don't see what all the big fuss is about rep, honestly. I tend to ignore the system in general, though I've left it enabled because I find it ironic I've got positive rep (oh, you crazy intarwebz people).

What does bug me is how many people complain about it. It's like post count - doesn't matter, and if I weren't curious about things like that (and my post per day average - damn vulpine curiosity'll be the end of me, I swear), I'd say burn it, too. Or at least make it unviewable.

Still, I suppose if it's not one silly thing it's another. People'll invent silliness where it's not set up... and even then, they may invent silliness anyway.
