I'd like to second this, as I have a picture of one of my Fortunatas, who I really want to give a part arachnos, part villain costume...

I've had my two kheldians for a few months now, and they are at 11 and 12 respectively. I really want to like them, but I am almost exclusively a solo player and the number of times my PB has died is probably some sort of record. The few times I have teamed with them they feel like different ATs, but I just don't really like teaming very much. I hope to slog through to a point where I actually understand how to play them properly, but I believe it will be slow going.

I only got my first red side 50 late last week. My soldier, as of today, is 22 and that is completely solo. I have never had a toon level so fast. An absolute joy to play, my only criticism is that I am locked out of spider armor pieces on my other costume slots. That is a crazy decision someone made, and I wish they would change it.

However, I am looking forward to the crab legs, so what do I know?

Oh, and PB's hit the good time at level 20. Especially Tri-form. Thats when everything clicks together and you start solo-ing like a rabid llama with eye lasers...
Yeah. Rabid llama...uhm. I'm going thataway now ^^;

But try and hang in till 20. I was in the same place, feeling 'meh, this isnt worth it.' Then 20. Boomtime. Bigtime.

I think people expect the epics to be "Awesome out of the box". When the fact is you have to stick them out to get the rewards. The good news is that HEAT's get good around 20 and VEATS get awesome at lvl 24. I can get 20 levels just through regular play a few hours a week, so it doesn't bug me. I like both epics and they feel epic to me. I have a Warshade and a "Huntsman" build bane. Both are loads of fun to play and neither one is IO'd out. It's all perspective I guess.

My level 50 Dominators:
Madame Mindbender 50 Mind/Energy
Fly Agaric 50 Plant/Thorn
Nate Nitro 50 Fire/Psi

Just tossing it out there, Kheldians are quite easy if you grab Nova at level 6 and then focus on slotting that alone. The +to hit, damage, and AOE work very nicely (opening with the KB targeted AOE is good mitigation, too). Of course, getting to SO levels helps on every AT, but I've found that Kheldians really can be easy if you focus on Nova form at first.

My Huntsman has been pretty safe in the early levels, but I don't think he clears foes as quickly as my Kheldians at low levels.

Having got one of each epic AT into the 40s I've come to the conclusion that on both heroes and villains there feels like one well done, fully fledged AT and one that they didn't quite have time to make work properly, and for opposite reasons.

For me Crabs are the worst VEAT, simply because you have two single target attacks, you inevitably get stuck chaining them to kill a boss... and they're the exact same animation; then you get 3 AoEs... with only 2 animations. Banes aren't quite as bad, but the mace attacks feel clunky, always feel like you needed one more coffee before going out to fight stuff that morning; and the mace attack in the patron pool again matches the animation of something you've already got.

Widows on the other hand I like, except that slash doesn't do defence debuff, the icon is just plain wrong and that bugs me no end.

For HEATS, well Peacebringers, they look lovely, but the powers don't seem as well thought out as Warshades, it's more a pick n' mix of stuff the other ATs weren't that bothered about giving up than a unique flavour. Unless the 'flavour' was knockback, in which case could we have kb on the heal please? Being able to move teammates and pets out of doorways would make it so much more useful. Really though Solar Flare is my pet annoyance - stamp my foot as a 6' tall girl and everything goes flying into the corners of the room; do the same move as a 12' tall crustacean behemoth and they just fall over... eh' wha'?

So, VEATs look like the animation shop was overworked (possibly due to the branching producing 4 ATs worth of work by the end), HEATs feel like it was the power design side (equally possibly due to getting forms to work)... Anyone who was around for both launches feel like combing their memories to see whether that tallies with what else was in progress at the time?

Crabs do have some melee powers if you feel you aren't getting enough single target damage. And there's nothing wrong with using Venom and Frag Grenades as part of your attack chain on a single enemy. You have to remember that Crab powers work with other Crab powers, such as the multiple pets they get (three spiderlings, two disruptors). Also remember a Crab is more geared towards multiple enemies rather than a single tough EB or AV.

I think you're both missing my point. The numbers on a crab are fine, pretty damn good actually. My problem is that using Venom grenade->Frag grenade->Suppression on a spawn then clearing up with Channel gun->Longfang - well the only power in there that actually looks like there's a point to all those arms is suppression. I've got 4 arms on that backpack and when firing at a single target it's always the same arm that fires. Both grenades come from the same arm so even the AoE opening is the same animation twice straight after each other.

It's not the damage that stopped me playing my crab, it was the constant niggling thought that it could look so much better if I'd just had all my legs wired up properly.

Ah yes...

Step 1: Grenade animation, hidden by my bulk.
Step 2: Grenade animation, hidden by my bulk.
Step 3: Awkward squat attack go!
Step 4+: Lean and fire with your only working leg!

It is slightly annoying.
