What are the requirements for getting into closed beta?

But remember, "It Sucks" isn't constructive feedback at all.

Note, sometimes (like ED, for example) the developers have come up with something that *will* happen. Now, unless you come up with something (say, ED somehow instead of soft-capping enhancement bonuses made them roll-over and start back at zero) on those that would totally screw up the game (not totally change, aka ED or PvPi13) then don't try to get it canned. Post ideas maybe to lesson the impact, etc, but don't try to get them to not do it. To do otherwise can lead to beta ejection and outright forum banning because those who have done so in the past tend to end up like rabid dogs.
I never said I would just go and blast the devs for no reason whenever i would get into a beta. I never even blasted them for ED. It would always be constructive. But what some may find constructive other may think it isn't.

I blasted them for ED, but I was willing to give them a bit of the benefit of doubt and tried. (This is also where I discovered that my level 28ish PB was actually only 3 slotted in most powers at best).

But I've been a pretty vocal proponent that Kheldians need at least 2-4 points of 'base mezz protection' for quite a while (sitting in the middle of mobs with all your suppressed toggles sucking END while you can't do anything just sucks for a human-form.)

And since that point when I came out on that, I haven't been invited to closed Beta.

Still here, even after all this time!

So, are you implying a conspiracy, implying favoritism, or just asking for condolence? I'm a little bewildered by your message.

I have the ultra-secret top ten qualification for getting into closed beta!

All testers MUST
10) Test according to the requested focus
9) Follow the GMOTD during open betas
8) post only factual numbers ("lots", "most" and "all of" are not numbers)
7) Post only balanced suggestions
6) Post only constructive criticism
5) Know the difference between fact and opinion
4) Respect others
3) Love the game
2) Be lucky (this can trump many of the above)
1) Be awesome

All that is planned fails. All that is born dies.
All that is built crumbles. This will always be true.

But memories remain, And that is beautiful.

I get into every beta regardless of what I do....

...then I wake up...

....it was a nice dream though...

No one probably does know EXACTLY what gets you into the closed beta. You'd *think* that being a loyal customer and spending (in my case) over $1300 might do the trick, but I'm sure that some that made it into the open beta have spent less, played less, and have only 1 account.

I'd guess it's more or less a crap shoot with a small percentage getting in because they "know" somebody, and the overwhelming majority getting in through some sort of "lottery" type random selection thing.

Nothing to get bitter over, although I feel that little sting every time it's announced and I don't make it...and I'm sure I'm not alone...
Ah yes, the sad fact is that many people here will spout that 'it shouldn't matter if you've been subbed since day one and dumped lots of money on the game, they need TESTERS not vets who just wanna dick around!'

Then you look at their "Through Thick and Thin" program and basically second guess all that reasoning. With GR, you'll be paying, or have payed, to get into the closed beta in one way or THREE.

So tell me, are they truly looking for testers during GR? Really? It's pretty lols

Yes, I'm sure they're looking really hard for people who are good testers in GR. If this is true, then every 60 month vet, every person who stays subbed for the time required, and every person that pre-orders the expansion is a 'good tester'.

The dev's only want feedback on stuff that isn't really important. IE, does your game blow up when you pop a yellow? They're not looking for feedback on their main issue focus, like ED, like purple patch, like issue 13 pvp and so on. By the time any of these hip new features make it to CB, they're not going to change or remit them, so basically CB is pretty much just to bug hunt (LOL) and not really provide feedback on the issue focus, as they don't really give a ****, and aren't going to roll back any thing no matter how much they've ******* it up (or not).

.
Given the apparent huge scope of Going Rogue, they probably will need a testing done then the usual free Issue updates. Going Rogue is the perfect vehicle for roll out new and updated tech. I think it's a good bet that new updates to the rendering engine are in the works. Testing for that sort of stuff they need a wide range of desktop computer to test this stuff out on. That scope of testing is way beyond their usual pool of free issue testers. Even if people don't actually leave feedback in the GR closed beta, the game client will provide information on why the game client crashes, and possibly other feedback paths.

But I imagine that the initial stages of Going Rogue close beta will be similar the free issue update beta. A small group of testing to begin with and then gradually expanding with more and biggest waves of testers. Although I suspect the first wave of closed beta testers might be all of hte usual suspects given how big it's going to be.

And let's not forget that closed beta will probably be going on a long while before the veteran/loyalty program people get in, which is how it went with City of Villains...

The Vet program is only for Going Rogue (which I will probably qualify on all 3 levels!)

i16 has no reward program for closed beta.

I know

Anyways, its reputedly been established that having lots of people makes too much "noise", and plenty of people point to issue 15 as an example. So why are they letting a **** load of people in now? You think they should use this criteria for future issues? Probably, will they? Probably not.

Just saying if they're considering anyone who meets the criteria for the GR closed beta to be a "valuable" tester, then why aren't they valuable enough to shove into other closed betas?

Then I remember this Thick and Thing ******** is just a marketing ploy, and everything makes sense and is right in the world again.

You also have to remember that, nowhere in that announcement does it say, which wave those that qualify for the 'Thick and Thin' access, will be invited to. I'd hazard a guess that only a small percentage will be invited to the 1st and 2nd waves of GR Beta, with that percentage increasing for the following waves.

The HeroCon '08 Beta invites were in addition to the standard Beta invites, I don't expect that to change for GR.

But I have yet to be invited to any closed betas. I know this thread will be read by less than average intelligent people and they will no doubt choose to insult me about this post, or nag about it. But I would like to know. My whole family are CoH players. My main toon is Kravist, my wifes toon is Agent Monroe, and my daughter plays various characters as she is still learning to play. So we are avid players who want to contribute.

Anyway, What are the requirements or guidelines you put in place to judge someone qualified for closed beta?
Just be patient and wait for your invite like everyone else. No one really knows. I've been invited to 3 closed betas myself the in the first wave and I've been playing the game since Beta. I've always filed several bug reports and tried to test the issue as much as possible to help out and yet I was not invite for I14 or this one yet. Why? Who knows. Maybe they wanted to give someone else a chance at testing other than a veteran like me. Maybe I wear glasses and someone found out at Paragon Studios and they don't like people unless they wear contacts? It's pointless to try and figure out the why. Just accept it and move on.

Hello Good Sir or Madam,

It has come to our attention that you seek the Path to Glorious Closed Beta. Well Friend, you are in luck. I happen to be a representative of a man who is the brother of a sister's cat's owner's nephew's girlfriend's husband's wife who went to primary school with the president of the Lamba Lamda Lamda Beta's janitor's weekend underwater basketweaving club, who incidentally tried out for the 1994 Summer Olympics in London.

While I was in my travels across the northern most southern tip of the eastern counties of West Alaska, I was astonished to discover a small nugget of gold in my flip flops. It wasn't worth all that much, but it broke my strap on my flip flop, causing the pack mules to rear up from the loud snapping noise. It was then that I realized that we didn't have any coffee for breakfast, so I decided to head to town.

Running into the local pet store, I found some Starbucks regular roast and a little catnip for the girls. I was waiting in line when I looked at the cover of the The Turnip and saw that in 3 days I was to win the lottery. I bought my ticket and waited outside for my solar flashlight to charge up. It was kinda dark for that time of night so I really needed it to charge faster. This is when I flagged down a taxi and headed to New York. By my reasoning, I could get to New York in time for sunrise, charge the flashlight and get back to Alaske in time to use it that night if we hurried.

Getting to New York was a long trip, but we met this guy along the way who had a particular fondness for tight, stretchy clothing and a flare for dramatics. His name was Wendy and he spoke in a soft frilly voice. I will never forget that wonderfully sweet man and what he shared with me on that trip. He spoke of a land where heroes and villains could go into the future and learn about what was to come. He warned us that the future was not written in stone, and could be changed. That's why he was on his mission. His job was to recruit those heroes and villains. Before he picked up his date for the prom, he gave me a magic card. This magic card has the most powerful sentence in the known universe, written in Babelese, so you can understand it no matter who you are. The card produces a perfect copy of itself when you speak the man's name and unlocks this magical land withen you chant the incantation.

Now Friend, I can help you. I know you seek the truth. You want to become one with time, space and that girl in accounting with the dimples and freckles, but patience is a virtue. I can and will help you if you are truly willing to help yourself.

Helping yourself is truly the only way you will ever help anyone else. We both know how generous you are. You are a very generous and loving person, who has big dreams. Prove it to yourself that you are commited to our agreement. How you ask? Simple.

I need you to show me your serious, and on faith and honor, send me 100,000,000 Influence. This small observance will show us how serious you are and how dedicated to the Closed Beta you profess to be.

For your gift of 100,000,000 Influence, I will send you the card and tell you the name you need to speak to unlock it's magical treasures.

What's this? Do I detect a little doubt? Ok My Friend, I will meet you half way. I will generously tell you the name you must speak. I will also tell you the secret that you must say the name three times. His name is Beetlejuice.

Now my Friend, you must send me your gift today so I can Express Mail your Magic Card.

Hurry...the future depends on you!!

In Love, Peace, Prosperity, and a couple Purple IOs,

Sca'min Teh N00bz

PS. If you refer a friend, you will have twice as much fun.

PSS. You must send this letter to all of your Global Friends or the card will not reveal its secrets to you and your 50s will be Permanently Deleted.
