Quickest way to 50
our slogan was "Everybody fights. Everybody dies."
Of course that was 2004 and it took 500 hours to hit level fifty. 300 if you were crazy fast. Everybody fights. Everybody dies. You with us? |
I have a different suggestion.
Instead of the goal of "50!", how about the goal of "fun!" Have fun. Levels happen. |
Thanks guys,
Youve made me realise its not all about getting a 50, its all about fun 100% |
Seriously, what are you going to do with an Epic AT that you are not doing already? Why not do that with a regular AT NOW and enjoy yourself?
There are many arcs with interesting stories in the regular game content. There are way cool zones to visit, like Dark Astoria, Cimerora and Croatoa. Great atmosphere and fun missions to run there. Some less so than others, and that is why there is the Mission Drop feature with contacts now.
I have been playing since March 2005, and I hit my 8th lvl 50 (Plant/Storm) just last night. I rolled him about a year and a half ago. I have enjoyed the ride of each of my varied heroes, and have met some good folks (some gone, some newer) and played on a lot of PUGs, which were always "interesting." (From We Always All Died to We Steamrolled Everything and all points in between.)
Relax and enjoy playing the game. Be the best Plant/Storm or whatever you are playing that you can be and enjoy doing it. If you do that, then when you get your epics, you will enjoy them, too.
"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"
"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."
I assume you are being sarcastic, considering you listed quite a few things to do at level 50.
The fact is that if there is no End Game then hiding it with a long arduous climb to level 50 isn't the answer. Also, if at level 50 it isn't obvious to Players what else they can do, and what the End Game is, then that is something that the developers need to address. No one should have to ASK what is there to do in a game at a certain level. The game should be so designed that it steers and leads the player into the various activities that are available. |
No I'm not joking. Every month or two someone posts a desire to raise the level cap or whines that there isn't enough to do once they hit 50.
The only reason some players don't understand what else there is to do once they hit 50 is because they have locked themselves into the mindset they got from other games that the game doesn't start till they hit the highest level.
That is not how this game was designed. We were given 132 character slots for a reason. To make lots of different characters and explore all the various combinations and styles of play that come with leveling those characters.
Our next new expansion "Going Rogue" opens up the chance to run heroes thru villain content and vice-versa. It's not raising the level cap or adding tons of level 50 missions.
This game is about the journey. Deal with it. If you can't accept this simple fact then you are missing out on the best things this game has to offer.
The journey started 5 years ago and it's still going strong with no end in sight.
Not that that I disagree with your main point, however: You can't see/do everything in AE that you can in the rest of the game.
Actually, I did play an AE mission that used the exterior Breakout map. Don't remember the name, but it was a Dev's choice arc about Johnny Sonata.

But I did think of another example; You wont see Jurassic in any AE mission. (At least I don't think so)
Getting to lvl 50 as quick as possible is kinda like getting to be 50 years old as fast as possible. Taking your time and enjoying your experiences on the way there is a helluva lot better than actually being there.
The image I have in my sig is for a character that isn't even level 50. It's sitting at level 47, so it should be 50 Soon(tm).* It is arguably my most cherished character.
My highest level Kheld that I have had unlocked for years is 11. This considering I saw a Dwarf form Kheld soon after starting the game and still think it's one of the coolest looking things in game, but that form is unlocked at level 20.
* Soon being relative considering it was made in i5. Yes, ten freaking issues ago.

I'm sure I saw something that referred to the upgrades as Universal Enhancement Slots but can't find a source for that at the moment (the forum change broke to many links ).
That's not entirely true, one of the features of Going Rogue is new content for level 50s that will make allow them to get stronger (I believe the term used was "Universal Enhancement Slots").
|
Sorry but you are going to have to provide a link to the thread where a dev that said that, or an official release about "Going Rogue" where it says that because if they had said it we'd be seeing dozens of threads discussing it on the forums.
edit: I do see in that article you provided where it says "and difficult tasks for level 50 characters to do that make them more powerful." but that could mean new IO sets, or something else.
And you'll see that I added an edit that acknowledges that in the same post.

Now the topic of "Universal Enhancements" has been discussed before, I believe it was mentioned once in an old article at Massively. I also think it was indirectly referenced by Castle in a thread about raising the level cap.
Castle: Why? What does raising the level cap actually do? Let's say we raised the cap to 60 tomorrow. Here is a list of things that would NOT be included: More power selections. More Slots to allocate. More Inspiration slots. Why? Because those things are already at a point where players can do nearly anything. We do have some tricks up our sleeves, but they don't involve changing the level cap. |
Yeah I saw that after my post. In any case it looks like I was definitely getting confusing different things that i read. I found the source I recall getting it from which was basically an unsubstantiated rumor based on a survey NCSoft did.

For some reason I'm remembering the phrase "theoretical level 60", but I can't seem to find anything official either, just mentions of the infamous survey that went around a few months back.
Don't you know Universal Enhancements are just socialism! Positron is going to institute "Death Boards" where if you get too much debt, they are going to make you delete your toon!
I don't know what your archtype is, but grouping with other people at the AE and running missions designated as 'Farm' type missions there should level you up fairly quickly.
I totally understand the drive to level 50, the lower levels are an unnecessary and frustrating grind. You realise that so many powersets and archetypes only 'Come Into THeir Own' at a particular level, or it takes 25 levels before you get the 'Defining Power' of the set or some crap like that. Totally unnecessary. If you want to hit a level 50 character, or 100 level 50 characters you go right ahead. THere will always be missions to run and things to do now that the AE is available. You can even use the Flashback Feature and do old story arcs etc. so you won't miss out on a thing. And if you have more than one level 50 you are more flexible for teaming, and in your Super Group you can jump on whichever character type a particular team in needs. This whole 'Journey to level 50' ...play for 800 hours and get to 50 is not for everyone. We must remember that this is just ONE way to design and play this game. A game like Guildwars runs you through level 1 to 20 in a few hours and then you have a max level character with all your powers and the game continues from there. I think what players may be realising is that the majority of people really don't like that 'Journey' to level 50, simply because in most MMORPGs after you do it once it isn't fun. By playing in the AE those players can see every single Map Type and Monster Type that the game has to offer. What are they supposedly missing out on really? Not a thing, in my view. |
@Rien
I am Lord Omi. Now and forever. They can take our City, but they can't take me.

Have seen too many players with a level 50 and the knowledge of a newborn whelp to believe otherwise. Makes PUG TF/SFs really painful... yes, even more than they were before the arrival of AE farming.
If it has eyes, you can blind it, if it has blood, you can make it bleed, if it has a mouth, you can make it scream.
I'll share a super-huge secret with everyone here. It's a guaranteed 100% way to get to level 50 in the shortest time possible. If you or anyone you know is interested in leveling up, I have the key. And I'll share it WITHOUT three easy installments of $29.99.
The absolute best way to get to level 50 is to gain experience.
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.

Welcome to the game.
I would echo that the journey in CoH is often as much fun as the destination - but I'd also add that I do still enjoy my 50s as well as levelling new toons.
Some people have suggested (with varying degrees of sarcasm) ways to get there, but I'd suggest that you join a large, active SG with a few toons and get into regular teams. Explore the game and all of its content. Steer clear of the MA - it has the CoX equivalent of swine flu - and get out and exploring the real content of the game
Thelonious Monk
Without a doubt the fastest path to 50 is AE boss farms. It is up to the player if that is what they want to do. I have seen all of the content on both red and blue sides and have used AE simply because there is nothing new at the moment for me to see other than AE. I also had a need for a specific toon type for level 50 play on a new server I swapped to due to a decrease in players on my regular servers and got myself powered up. That doesnt mean I do it with all of my toons. I still have my first blaster I created in issue one. He is level 46. I have not hurried him along. I enjoy playing him but as an NRG / NRG blaster he is not always a welcome add to a team even if I do sweep into corners and walls.
warning off topic but this made me think all these people complaining about pling and talking about how they leveled their 1st 50's back in the day... lol the cap was 40
Ha Ha Ha caught ya
I agreethe fastest way from 1 to 50 is to play your toon with xp turned on, 1 to 6 in mercy then head to port oak paper mish till mayhem pick up contacts finish arcs there is a cool unlockable contact in po you shouldn't miss its a ghost arc and worth running IMO, then to cap lots to do here including your 1st strike force and pvp zone lots of fun arcs to run here too many fun items to be had jet packs weapons....
then on to shark just keeps getting better from here on out...
if you play them 50 will come
Also, if at level 50 it isn't obvious to Players what else they can do, and what the End Game is, then that is something that the developers need to address.
