Level boosting?

Hi, I have a question. Is it a bannable offense to use ae missions to gain levels faster? My friend mentioned that I can get banned for running them.

There's "Faster" and there's "clearly exploitative."

For instance, the [closed] exploit where you could shoot at boss-class badguys that did not shoot back, but gave XP and rewards normally... that was broken. Nobody even tried to pretend that was working as intended.

If you use obvious exploits, and some sort of hammer comes down on you, you should not be surprised.

Now the only things I've heard about were "losing the character" and "losing the AE arc"- that is, the arc is locked so you can neither play that arc, nor replace it with something else. It is possible that you can get actually banned for sufficiently horrible exploiting. I don't keep track of who gets what kind of punishment for these things, and most of what I do hear is second hand rumor anyway.

My personal rule is "If it's full of dangerous enemies that hit hard, and you get XP really fast on a large team, that's probably working as intended." But I am not a dev.

So you think you're a hero, huh.

What Fulmens said. There are many AE missions designed to maximize xp/hr, but people were already doing that by not completing and resetting missions that had enemies that were easier for that character years before AE existed.

Unless the mission is clearly allowing you to gain enormous amounts of XP for next to no risk it's generally not going to get you banned. Boss farms and Slammer farms give very large rewards, but can also quickly result in teamwipes if someone slips up. The biggest risk to a player in doing those missions is boredom due to monotonous enemies, not banning or removal of characters.

Edit: The popular term among the MMO community for level boosting is power leveling.

If you're out there shooting at the bad guys and taking hits, potentially dying, you're playing the game the way it should be played and you're not doing anything wrong. If you're dying on a regular basis, you're probably not doing anything wrong. If you're using tactics like pulling and learning how to use your powers, you're not doing anything wrong. If you're playing alongside high-level characters who are protecting you with bubbles and buffs, you're not doing anything wrong.

If you're standing around by the entrance doing nothing while some really tough tank or Fire/Kin clears the map, you're doing the same thing other people have been doing for years in regular missions. AE just makes this form of power leveling more efficient personnel-wise. It's not "wrong" in a bannable sense -- this has been happening for years -- but it is "wrong" if you have no idea how to play that power-leveled character.

If you're running around the map guarded by dozens of NPC allies who heal you, or bubble you or use Accelerate Metabolism on you while you are fighting gimped enemies that drop like flies or don't fight back, you are in more dangerous territory.

The devs want there to be a risk involved with every reward. If there is no risk, you don't deserve the reward.

Basically, if the XP seems too good to be true, it's too good to be true.

Well if you're dying on a regular basis you're probably doing something wrong, but it won't get you banned.

If you feel like you're cheating, you most likely are.

If by 'uber stuffs' you mean purple drops, you're completely wrong. Purples cannot be bought with tickets, and thus are impossible to get in the AE except in level 50 Dev's Choice missions.

You're not getting uber stuff, someone else is getting uber stuff and handing it to you. Credit where credit is due. Apparently the Devs won't stop you from doing this, but don't pretend you've "gotten to" 50 or that it's any kind of achievement to watch TV while someone else creams easy enemies.

I know that you know that's not correct.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

/em adjust tinfoil hat

did you know that AE is really run by the Evil Empire?

do not give in to the dark side...

For all the complaining, myself included, I think AE has really helped our game to bring in new people. I see them everyday, and people who didn't play as much are on more. The game keeps getting better and better. Good Job CoX team!

Well actually, in-universe the Architect is a joint venture of Aeon Corps and Crey. You really can't get much more dodgy than that.

NO it is not bannable to use any mission AE or otherwise to boost leveling it is only a banable offense to use Exploits which also should not be banable because the Devs should find and correct these issues and stop blaming the users that find them.

you can play AE's and even FARM AE's that are legitimate maps with legitimate mobs that still have to be fought to complete.

if you find yourself on a magic team making 3x normal exp and the guy is bragging about how he is not even having to put his shields up because they can't or don't fight back I would suggest exiting the team because thats an exploit

however if your on a team with nice but evenly keeled exp and your there for a good time while someone maybe yourself is fighting mobs to get the exp your safe and should enjoy your leveling clear of concious <-- that word may be mispelled Im a villain and spelling was not a prereq...

I'd just like to point out that while using an exploit MAY result in some dev action, it likely won't. There was a period of a few weeks when it seemed like Mito farms were all that anyone was doing, and there's no way that all the participants were hit with the ban hammer. I MEOW'ed and Mito'd and suffered 0 consequences. Bans get threatened by posters on these forums for everything, but it seems that the devs are loathe to use teh ban hammer.

They are. One of the reasons there was so much outcry over Positron's response is that it was so out of character- the devs prefer to be friendly with the playerbase, but it seems they felt meow farms were just going too far. I think with mitos they decided to take a less conrontational approach.

I think more Chicken Littles quit over fear of being banned than people who were actually banned.

That depends on if the person that "found" the exploit /bugged it or not, don't you think? If they didn't /bug it and used the exploit to gain unwarranted benefits, then they should be punished for the transgression.

I'm 99.99% sure that the Devs aren't going to ban someone that found an exploit and let them know about it up front.
