I'm going to give the new forums a chance to see how it all shakes out.

The biggest thing I've noticed is that the UI elements are in many ways more intrusive than the old boards.

More chrome and surrounding stuff makes the individual posts seem to get lost in the page.

The post separation space and the standoffs seem a lot greater, leading to more scrolling and makes it harder to see how a single post relates to the others.

The text contrast is alot lower as well. It would be great if we could design our own skins to allow for better readability and denser content.

Is there a way of invoking a lofi version of the pages?

I also noticed the posting is a lot faster and hopefully there will be no more posting issues.

I agree, the spacing right now is the biggest thing that bothers me. It's like trying to read a large print book. If we get options to fix that, I will be happy with the change.

Still uncomfortable with the fact that the forum login is now tied to your game login. Since it's presumably much easier to hack a forum login than it is a game login, and getting access to a forum account means you'll also have access to that person's game account, I see that more as a security issue than anything else. There was a reason my passwords were different.

Please refer back to page one, where it was made to be "amazing" and all the new "features" were well welcomed..

Maybe one day, we can team up and be awesome!

Until that day, please leave logic at the door and follow the fans to the boys!

Oh, and writing a script to redirect URLs from the old boards would've been awesome. Oh well, I guess five years' worth of links all over the internet don't matter.

Like the idea of switching to the new forums, and I actually like the new forums, but the transition itself could've and should've gone better. Obviously it's better in the long run but it's going to be a long time before I can rebuild my link library.

I like that we can choose between Hero and Villain outlines (User CP -> Edit Options -> Forum Skin (under "Miscellaneous Options"). I'm hoping they'll put in more options there

Oh, a quick reminder to everyone...while the port to the new forum software is likely permanent, the current set-up of the forums is probably not 100% set in stone. It appears that the main goal for COH's Online Community Relations during the forum update/merge was to get everything ported over to the new forum software in one piece. Once they're sure that everything with the new software is working smoothly, they'll be addressing other issues with the boards (i.e. resolving name conflicts, changing the emoticons, improving readability, changing which forum features will remain and which ones will be disabled, etc). They're currently taking feedback for what posters like/dislike about the new setup and will likely be adjusting the current settings based on our feedback. If you like or dislike a forum feature, the layout, etc, make sure you post your feedback in the official thread...

Also, things like this make me chuckle - wtf is up with these search tags?

Odd search tags

My initial reaction is not to like it simply because it is different and it's making me work to do what I used to do by instinct.

I'm hoping the learning curve will be smooth and quick.

Meh, some people are really freaking out over nothing.

I am willing to accept that NCSoft didn't just burn hundreds of man hours on a whim and there was a good reason to make the change other than to piss off people with one foot out the door and paranoid freaks.

From what I've been told by someone that knows vBulletin very well from having run several vBulleting forums in the past, it wasn't that simple.

For one thing, all of the links on the UBB forums referenced a post by number, and I believe they do on vBulletin as well.

The problem is that when they ported over the old forums to the new ones they were given new post numbers, so the old links didn't work. It is difficult to write a script to change the links since they need the new numbers but the posts that have the links may come in before the linked post so that the linked post may not have a number so the script gets borked. It becomes a Catch-22 situation rather quickly.

I feel for the people that have guides or other posts with links to posts that are going to have to manually find the other posts and then hand edit the links.

I'm not 100% satisfied yet with the new forums, I'm just willing to try to figure out how to do the things I want to do instead of being like some of the people in other threads that just whine and complain without trying to figure out how to do simple things. Especially when there have already been posts in the same thread telling them how to do it, or posts replying to them telling them where to look for answers.

All in all, it's another change that I can't control, so I'll do my best to adapt.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

Uh... It was always my game login. They have always been connected.

My only complaint is that Log In doesn't actually work for me on the main page. It says "thanks for logging on", redirects me, and... I'm no longer logged on. It refuses to log me on correctly until I make a post, which makes looking for new threads pretty much impossible.

Think I found my problem here. My old forums links always used boards.cityofvillains.com. The redirector seems to back to the hero side after logging in via the villain address.

I found another odd forum bug. The "Add Reply", "New Post" and similar buttons are the wrong color in the themes. In the villain theme, the buttons are blue and in the hero theme they are red. Maybe they're trying to make them stand out... I dunno... seems wrong though.

Ugh! I use to post and follow the forums all the time!

Now, It's not even really worth the effort.

Everything is hidden under 725 menu options, and it's horrible..

So once again, GG or something.

I'm sure someone awesome will post to my I HATE THE NEW FORUMS post, but who cares...

I heard the boys who are fans stand over there to the left..

GG

Is the problem that all the forums are now nested...if it is, try bookmarking the expanded (unnested) English forum (http://boards.cityofheroes.com/forumdisplay.php?f=547). Or are you looking to change something in your CP and are not sure where to find it? If that's the case, post what you're trying to do and I'm sure someone can point you in the right direction.

Also, PhiloticKnight posted a really good guide for the new forums. I'm not sure if it'll be helpful to you or not, but it's there should you need it.

P.S. Not really a fangirl, but I do feel these boards have far more freedom and customization than the old boards. However, they do have a bit of a learning curve and take some getting used to. And at the moment, they aren't 100% perfect and think there's some adjusting that the community reps should do (like the horrid gradient skin and lack of contrast...thanks to those issues, spending too long reading the forums gives me headaches). Bottom line, if there's any way I can help someone who is having difficulty adjusting, I'm more than happy help out where I can.

I'm still hunting for this one myself. Any one figure it out, other than directly quoting a snippet?
