I certainly can't think of any potential for abuse of 1.1. And getting married is such a superhero thing to do. Why, practically every hero in the comics is married.

Manticore and Sister Pscyhe got married. Also there have been a few in game marriages so i don't see there being any harm in it.

Also in regards to 1.1... It will only work when those 2 people are teamed together, and 1.25 isn't much, also that could be changed to a lower amount or make it only influence.

It'll be good for a valentines day issue

Statesman ate a ham sandwich once, but that doesn't mean we need a mission, badge, and substantial XP reward for eating ham sandwiches.

Obviously completely beyond the ability of farmers to arrange?

1.25 is two free bars each level!

Any significant reward is going to lead to marrying just being something you do at 30th along with the Aura mission.

Tbh reading your post, i can understand why you may not like the suggestion.

The only reason i put the 1.25% modifier is to encourage people to try it, however i'd still be happy and still be willing to marry if their was no benifit (apart from being able to have "Married to X" under my name )

Sure, I could totally get behind that. The XP modifier perhaps not, but the rest of it seems really cute.

Theres a little thing that some people may not have heard of, oddly in a MMORPG;
Roleplay

/unsigned
If theyre low level, exp pact and then team a lot. If they are above pact level, then simply roleplay it. A call for badge and exp for something like that is...no. Just no.

/em propose = ability to marry, no? Doesn't need ingame mechanical backing when the RPers already have an emote for it? (well, 4)

Because "RPG" in computer games doesn't mean "roleplaying game", it means "vaguely D&Dish mechanics like experience and levels". Sure, you _can_ roleplay in the MM ones, but there's no particular compulsion to.

No, sorry, it does. Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. Even with things like Oblivion and Diablo and suchnot, its still technically a roleplaying game, as you take on the role of the chracter. Sure, people choose to play how they want, but its still an RPG.

Agreed. I wouldn't like people just married to get a badge or a buff...

I know what it stands for - that doesn't mean that's what it is. You can go from 1 to 50 without ever uttering a line in character, without ever imagining your character's mental state, without ever considering their motivations (or even pretending that they are a person _with_ motivations) - in short, without roleplaying - and this is not even particularly unusual. What the game is _about_ is some sort of tactical third-person skirmish combat.

You control a humanoid avatar in a videogame. That isn't taking on a role. Is Super Mario Bros a roleplaying game? No. Is it a computer RPG? No. What's the difference between Super Mario Bros and Diablo? Stats and levels. It's the stats and levels that make people call it an "RPG" - not any roleplaying!

I think the way this will work is

The couples who play COH together will probably /sign this

Those who are single or who's partners don't play this will /unsign this as it doesn't appeal to them

Would laugh if you were forced to pay a visit to Bat'Zul to get your 'marriage' annulled...

But, sorry Hey, unsigned; I don't think "forcing" RP on people is a great idea, and with a bonus/badge attached, that's likely how it would be seen.

Don't let your relationship skew the other actual gameplay aspects of this idea. That's a bit of a rash judgement.

I'm in a relationship, but my other half doesn't want to touch this game with a barge pole. She would /unsign this, sure

I would unsign this as, I think that having a badge + XP buff for marriage will be used to gain a buff simply because it's there, and you'll end up with broadcasts in lvl 30+ zones shouting: "Level 30 Something looking for Marriage plz".

The XP buff will be whored, the badge will upset badgers (example: My Main villain simply won't marry...why would he? He doesn't see the worth in human life anyway). It's just a huge can of worms.

What about civil partnerships? There's a whole legal minefield there

If you want to be married, file that under "roleplay", like everyone else does. It should not affect game mechanics.

Deleted as it should probably be under roleplay as people have said

Why would you need bonuses for RP weddings?

Of course maybe some emotes or costume pieces could help (rings or maybe a ball and chain?), but not gameplay bonuses.

Statesman ate a ham sandwich once

[/ QUOTE ]
Source?

Pretty sure there's no canon mention of his sandwich-tastes since becoming Statesman and I guess from the Web of Arachnos that the pre-Statesman Marcus was more a simple cheese-and-pickle man. Could clear this up in the lore section I guess...

[/ QUOTE ]

You sound scared to admit that your playing a role playing game To clear that up, your playing a RPG because you assume a character to fulfill actions, not because of levels or stats. They're just associated with the process of further character development.

Essentially any game in which you play another character is a role playing game but those that actually fulfill it's origins are things like MMO's and the ones you mentioned because they fully allow character development and progression (ie levels and stats)

Just because you choose not to talk in your characters voice or take time to act out their lives you are actually doing it when you play be it farming, pvping etc your still using the character to complete actions in a fictional reality ie playing the role of your character, a la roleplay

OT:

I agree with the ability to marry, without a buff or bonus, keep it RP please. along with this is another bundle of joy that i miss...

Two person emotes! holding hands, kissing, hugs, actual slaps etc used to have them in my other mmo and although occasionally buggy, it was worth the fun that could be had. (and we could have proper weddings with holdinghands, kissing, propsing etc.)

Thats what i wanted!!

I got it from perfect world.

In that game you could get married, you could carry your partner, hold hands and kiss and stuff.

But then i didn't wanna take it too far in this game.

If we can have a life in regards to Day Jobs, why not a life in regards to this??

Every hero needs some sort of life.

Could make it an advanced Leveling Pact, Which is NON breakable without at least one party doing a divorce type mission (Forced Extreme Difficulty Solo/Duo Mission)

Nuff Said...
Coolio Wolfus leader of Coolios Crusaders on Union.
Tekna Logik leader of Teknas Tormentors on Defiant.
AE arc 402506, 'The Rise and Demise or Otherwise of Tekna Logik...'.

Then you'd have to be able to do it from quite a low level, which is also good

Given this is meant to be a game, I consider treating the subject as something thats light as really rather quite offensive.
Two person emotes I like, but the rest of it really doesnt belong in a game.

I don't see there being anything wrong with this.
If there was no reward, and all that you got out of it was "Married to Heroname" written under your name (where a badge title would go, but you wouldn't be able to have a badge title if you got married) then i think this idea could be great.

It doesn't affect anyones game play, it gives no-one an advantage, its just there for the people that want to use it.

All you need is some sort of chapel (in DA would be cool ) with someone to do the marrying for you, and thats it. No reward, no benifit, just some COH RP for those who want to do it.

All fun and games until the lesbian catgirls start demanding equal rights and march on City Hall calling for same sex (but different species) Civil Unions.
