Tattoo ideas?

After seeing this and having a good laugh it got me thinking, has anyone actually got a tattoo out of anything on CoH?

If not, anyone got any ideas that might inspire someone to do something they will probably regret 10 minutes after they have it done?

I was seriously considering getting the Arachnos logo done on my bicep but thouht I might hold off for a while

The Arachnos logo is circular and symmetrical, and is therefore suited in my opinion for the belly button or some other body orafice.

How about "FREEM" as a palm-projector Tat?

lol that seems like one of those things you think is a good idea at the time and regret later... probably at the moment someone says 'thats a nice tattoo, wheres that logo from?' lol

For any tattoo I get done, I come up with an idea then wait six months. If it still seems a good idea then, I get it done. Avoided several bad ideas that way

And avoid green ink on tattoos, I am led to believe that green is the hardest to remove :P

I'd get it done in henna... much easier.

Oh and I want something that could look like a nemesis automaton... made in stamp or something.

Damn, maybe shouldn't of got that Green Arrow-esque quiver of arrows done on my back last night.

How about (for hopelessly obsessed die-hard CoX fans);
#Recluses Spider-arms on your back

#Full-body Actual costume pieces (eg; for players that really like the Vanguard costume pieces)

#Body modification; shave your head, file your teeth, sub-dermal implants and blue tattoo colouring for the full-on Capt.Mako fanboy.

#A Mynx make-over? - some people really like cats.

You think that's bad? Check out this guy. And no, that isn't body paint.

I find the facial reconstruction to be more horrifying than leopard boy's poor choice in tatoo's and undergarments

I followed ML's link and then went and looked at the article on Chupacabras... at 3am.... I am so going to have nightmares.

I'm not into tattoos that much, but if I did get one, I think I'd get a little version of my chest emblem on my lower back - or maybe that "Paragon star" symbol.

Hmm, dunno if i'd ever tattoo something CoH, but i have been thinking on getting a catspaw on one of my butt cheeks.

I bit the bullet and got a CoH tattoo on my left bicep, at the prodding of my oldest daughter. I let her have one as a graduation present, and she talked me into doing it, too. After much consideration, I decided on one inspired by the "Star 6" chest detail. Star 6 is the logo of "Rathstar", my level 51 Energy/Energy Blaster Hero (my first CoH character, created in 2004).

Star 6 is appropriate for Rathstar and my tattoo because:

  • The 5 points of the star represent my 5 awesome kids.
  • The background ring represents my awesome wife, who binds us all together.
  • The nautical star is a tribute to my Dad, who was a sailor.
When it's healed, the star will be orange & blue (Rathstar's color scheme), and the ring behind it will be gold (like my wedding band).

I believe I saw a thread recently where Arbiter Fabulous got himself an arachnos logo tattoo.

Well, I already have the Tzimisce clan symbol tattooed on my left shoulder and when I can afford to spend the money, I'll be getting the lesser Mark of Storm (from the D&D Eberron Campaign Setting) on my chest... As for a CoH tat... I can't really think of a place and design that would work well. I think a Scrapper icon would be neat, but can't think of where to go with it. Then again, I'm a total altaholic, so getting one AT icon just wouldn't seem right. Perhaps all 14 AT icons on my upper arms, the 7 Heroic ATs down my right arm and the 7 Villainous ATs down my left. Doing a quick photoshop job to see what I think now...

Edit: 5 minute mock-up:

Could work, sizing would have to be played around with, but it could work.

My only concern with a game based tattoo is eventually the game will go away and this will have been but a brief (hopefully) moment in your life. Aren't there other things with more meaning to get a tattoo about?

When I was 18 I wanted a Wolverine tattoo on my leg. I waited and waited, then realized when I'm 50 or 60 would it still mean the same or anything. So I haven't gotten it. I've also designed a few other tattoos and while some would work I haven't gotten them yet. The one tat I have now was done hastily and I have been trying to figure a way to do a cover up for a long time now.

So my point is, make sure it's something you REALLY want and will enjoy for a long time (basically forever). But if you do get one let us see!

I agree completely. My son's teacher once argued against tattoos with this: "Remember, when you were 5, you thought Barney was awesome."

That's one of many reasons I resisted getting -- or allowing my kids to get -- a tattoo. But my daughter was quite insistent, and she said that she was going to get one when she turned 18 anyway (in just 2 months). I've always told my kids that once they turned 18, they could make their own decisions about things like this. So rather than fighting it any more, I thought, "why not use this as a bonding opportunity?" My little girl is all grown up now. She graduated at the top of her class with a 4.0 GPA, and earned a scholarship to college. She's been a great kid, so why not have one last bit of fun together before she moves on with her life?

I knew I wanted my tattoo to be something I'd still appreciate in 20 years. I know that CoH probably isn't going to last much longer (that it's been 7 years at all amazes me). But I've been playing it since 2004, and it's honestly my only "hobby", so to speak. So I figured why not get a tattoo that represents that hobby, and can also remind me of my family? That's how I decided on Star 6.

There was one other CoH design that I considered: the classic/original City of Heroes/Statesman icon (see below). Like Johnstone, I couldn't decide on any one AT's symbol, because I've enjoyed playing almost all of them. My main is a Blaster, but I also love my Tankers, Scrappers, Masterminds, and EATs. I've had and enjoyed many alts of many builds over the 7 years I've played CoH, so I couldn't pick just one -- and I definitely wasn't going to get 14 tattoos. So I figured the original CoH/Statesman icon would cover them all. But ultimately, I decided that was a little too generic. Star 6 won because it represented CoH, my main CoH character Rathstar, and also my family. And the more I think about it, the more convinced I am that I made the right choice.

Well I have to say I think the one you went with, Rathulfr, is very cool. It also has meaning to you which will last a lifetime. It really is a design that could come from anywhere. It just so happens you found it in game. I think I was thinking more along the lines of Johnstone's idea. Those are very iconic to the game only. For me it would be like putting a Metroid or even Zelda emblem on my arm. I liked those games and they are still popular but when I'm 50, 60, 70 I doubt I'd care about them. That's all I'm saying is make sure it is something that will mean something to you for a very very long time!

EW!!! I'd have a heart attack if I ever bumped into that guy!! Those docs who did the implants and the dentists who shaved his teeth are just as nuts as the guy they did it too!!!

That is just SICK!! But I don't know who is worse, the guy who wanted it or the tatt guy who did it!

I wonder why you never see good looking people deforming their bodies like that Leopard boy and Tiger boy have!

And for me, they might mean as much to me later in life. I haven't played Vampire: The Masquerade in almost a decade (not since White Wolf totally screwed the pooch on the storyline behind their games). I still love my Tzimisce Clan Symbol tattoo because it represents the fun that I had with a few close friends. I've been trying to put money aside for my Mark of Storm tattoo since Eberron came out pretty much, and I haven't even played D&D at all in about 2 years. I realize that one decade isn't the same as five, but V:tM was never really that popular and the current vampire trend is a complete load of hogwash; and yet I have no regrets about the coiled dragon resting on my left shoulder.

Granted, the Tzimisce clan symbol and the Mark of Storm aren't immediately recognizable as gaming icons except by those who have played either game. The CoH Archetype symbols are much more iconic and recognizable. May not be the best idea for everyone. I think my only issue with my quick photoshop is the sizing and layout, scaled down and arranged differently and I think I'd be happy to have the tattoo for the rest of my life. I know that once the CoX servers are brought offline some time in the (hopefully distant) future, I will look back on my time played fondly. Having a reminder of all the good times I've had on my skin permanently wouldn't really bother me at all.

You do, but once they get to that point (or anywhere near it for that matter) they stop being anything close to good looking. *cough*PaulyUnstoppable*cough*

There's a line at which it stops being interesting or sexy and just starts being gross. This comes from someone who loves tats and piercings and has, has had, and plans on getting several.

Wasn't there a girl too who got leopard spots tattooed on her. Nowhere near as many as leopard man, and if memory serves it kinda looked ok on her. Tho that was ages ago, she might have ruined herself completly now. Didn't find her on google tho.

Not something i'd do tho, still pondering a catspaw tattoo

Saw a girl once, cafe au lait skin, who had leopard spots tattoed as a vertical band along her spine. No other ink anywhere else. It was very sexy.

There was a girl in Europe who got stars across her face, her parents went nuts and she blamed the artist saying she fell asleep in the chair and he got carried away. She finally admitted it was her own fault, but after a lot of hassle for the artist.
