NCsoft offering games on Steam

Steam is a bit odd in terms of what it offers the Eu and UK.

For some reason the Witcher fell off it, which was annoying since I was going to buy it (again! Stupid fragile DVD) for cheap.

Good move though, and hopefully coming to the EU too.

No sign on the EU markets though, but maybe this'll help drum up some new players for said games.

Just not for EU side.

*cough* That press release covers both North America and Europe . The games aren't available just yet, however they should be later today (US time).

I've edited the thread title slightly to reflect this.

Very interesting indeed. Not shortly ago Steam decided to put all USD prices back to Euro, not with the proper conversion rate but plain 40 USD -> 40 EUR. If they do the same with CoH, sorry to say.. but screw em.

Aion chinese beta is going atm, there seems already a english client going around. Big guesses go US being first, then at the end of the year it'll be our turn.

It's about time, AFAIK the steam release helped EVE decently, should be good for CoH.

do you still have to create PlayNC (master) accounts?

Is the city of heroes edition offered on steam the us or eu version or is that depending on where the buyer is located?
I just know ncsoft will have screwed it up again and put the us edition on steam, I mean, they STILL havent fixed the eu giving us trial keys page either.

And also, is there any word on being able to register my eu cd key with steam ? (Im not going to pay 14.99 for something I already have).

This would be good news, if it hadn't been for the fact that Steam SUCKS BIGTIME. I've purchased three games through steam, and they all took more than 6 hours to download. One (Dawn of War 2) took significantly longer (10 hours). And the customer support is almost non-existant. They rely more on players on the forum to help players who has trouble, than on actual company rep's. It's a horrible service, and they charge retail price for virtual products. Long live profit-chasing over customer service!

One can hardly blame a digital delivery service for your connection speed. I've had several games over Steam, and they've all downloaded quite fast. HL2 was downloaded and running in about 20 minutes, from scratch.

I've bought tons of games from Steam and the downloads have never taken longer than 2-3 hours (even with multiple games downloading after system rebuilds).

The user support on the forum has also been enough support for me, but since I haven't had an issue with Steam itself that I've had to contact Steam for, I can't comment.

Edit: Rather interesting to note that the Steam store page in its rolling adverts at the top devotes ones slot to Lineage, one slot to Guild Wars and ZERO slots to City Of Heroes...

105 games owned on Steam, only a problem with one, and that was Grand Theft Auto (the original) not working properly.

And as has been mentioned, EVE launched on Steam and got a fair few new users, and Age of Conan is on there too, so this may be a good move.

There's nothing wrong with my connection. I max out my 16Mbit connection off US based Usenet servers, and never does it dip below 1.3 M/s. I never have network disconnects (other than planned ones which I get plenty of advance warnings about.) DoW2 should take something like two hours, not ten. And still they charge retail prices.

So they'll be coming "Very Soon"?

It's now midnight UK time (BST) and Coh is still 'Not available in your region'. I suspect anyone that was interested won't try again. Way to go NCSoft. it takes something special to pull a Munson and have something that could have worked so well, fail so spectacularly. I doubt anyone will look again unless it stays on the front page.

Cough, pardon me, I have my cynical hat on today. hopefully this will be good for CoH in general, but can i ask, if we already have CoH can we register with Steam in some way so we can use their downloads rather than NCSoft's? Cos NCSoft's can be slower than treacle in a -20'C blizzard and I always get good speeds through Steam and would like to not have to reinstall using the patcher if I can avoid it. (I know I can burn a DVD copy, but I don't have a DVD burner so that point is kinda moot)

In that case, Excellent News everyone!

Can you give us any hints on when Aion is coming out? I'm rather looking forwards to it actually, so here's hoping it's nothing like Lineage II.

Fall apparently, at least according to GamesIndustry.biz

I don't see anything in that link that matches what you said, ML, just talks about NC Soft having games on Steam.

MissChief, probably not if my other games are anything like it, and yeah, CoH appears in New Releases, people go to click on it, game not available in this region? Could end up sending people to the US or, as you said, put them off.

Interestingly, Lineage and Lineage 2 are cheaper on Steam than from the PlayNC store.

In addition, NCsoft has announced that its upcoming title Aion: The Tower of Eternity will be available on the service when it is released in the United States and Europe in Fall of this year.

Sorry, I thought you said "Fail apparently, at least according to GamesIndusry.biz" ._.

It's been a little hectic this end tonight.

Hopefully summer beta then, maybe it'll give me my fix and stop me from being tempted by FFXI anymore.

Heheh, no problem Zortel.

... and re: undercutting their own plaync store - absolutely no idea, unless they have yet to update the site.

Who knows what NC do with pricing these days? They have different editions, timecards, boxes, and whatnot coming outta every orifice.

Necrobond - 50 BS/Inv Scrapper made in I1
Rickar - 50 Bots/FF Mastermind
Anti-Muon - 42 Warshade
Ivory Sicarius - 45 Crab Spider

Yes yes getting COH on to steam is a good move ...even though it's showing no sign of helping to contribute to the EU player base....

...and on that note, how about getting this fixed.

I wouldn't be suprised if they screwed up and it turns out to be the American Version.
Since thats all that ncsoft is doing these days, issue 14 wasnt even live for 3 days and I already regretted paying for a month again.

And why on earth cant I use my retail cd key with steam, im not gonna pay another 14.99 just to have the game on steam.
