NCsoft offering games on Steam
Coin_ and Zortel,
Thanks v. much for reporting on your tribulations but ultimate successes in doing this. I know it will be useful to members of our SG who have tight finances and can't really afford the booster packs at their standalone price.

I did, this morning, when I had a terrible time trying to get the GW promo storage pane for my 3 accounts... The issue is being looked into currently, and the experts are looking at exactly what's happening currently.
FWIW, I know what happened re: people getting "Try Again" error messages with the Magic Pack. What you were getting was actually a browser error message, because the browser was deciding that the process was taking too long and timing itself out. Unfortunately the ncsoft.com store was actually still processing (just slower than the browser expected). Even more unfortunately, the browser-prompted "Try Again" resubmits the entire requests and the store sees it as a new request, and processes it as such. Hence why a lot of people ended up buying multiple packs.

Thanks for letting us know, GR, nice to know it's not just us then
I just fear for any poor new player trying to sort out an account atm, gonna be a nightmare for them. Not the best advert just as the games go on something as big and popular as Steam is.

To be fair, I'm using steam a lot more recently and it's been a dream to use. All my old Hlaf Life games are registered on it and as I just reformatted my PC, reinstalling them was a doddle to do, just installed Steam and set them all to redownload, wasn't even that long to do on a fast speed connection like mine
As for the Coh install, paying for it on steam was very easy, very fast and the game was installing within minutes. I even used a cheeky trick to make the install go quicker. As I already had Coh installed, I paused the download via steam, found where it was installing it on my PC, copied contents of my normal CoH install across to the new folder and told Steam to carry on, it checked all the files and just needed to download an update, presumably the latest patches and it was done, took about 3 minutes!
I know play the game via steam, I can remove the CoH icons off my desktop and also have a hadny back up copy if needed if for some reason Steam won't work properly!
Honestly, it's very worth using and Steam often have special offers on as well, apparently I just missed out on Left 4 Dead for £13 as I was not using Steam at the time! Seen a couple of bargains on there as well, original Far Cry for £6

Plus there's been a CoH Steam group up for about 6 months now, full of those of us who like CoH but also enjoy other games. Steam's a fantastic social/gaming program that, yes, does have its bugs and issues, but most of the time runs smoothly and saves you having to keep your discs unscratched and at hand.
And for those who want to join the steam group, it's And for those who want to join the steam group, it's here
be warned though, Tainted Greek is in there

We do stuff like Left 4 Dead versus matches, and we could probably get some TF2 and Counter Strike: Source going too.
Hmm, also, if it's to do with timeouts...
In Firefox, type about:config into your address bar. Then in the filter search window, look for this:
<font class="small">Code:[/color]<hr /><pre>network.http.keep-alive.timeout</pre><hr />
Find the value associated with it, in my case 300, and increase that to say, 600, and it might help with the time outs, but not with the speed. If that doesn't work, increase to 900.
Zortel's friendly notice: I am in no way responsible for if you cause a resonance cascade in your browser, initiate at your own risk.
Re: Steam - you get some good bargains on there too, especially after Christmas time. Bioshock for something like £3.29? Special offers, indie games and cool collections too.
This message was not endorsed by Valve.
Also, it's nice to see the big bit on the Steam homepage, advertizing CoH, GW, Lineage and L2.
CoH players on Steam? Hot dang, sign me up. Whenever I find time to game, TF2 is up there with CoH. It's all about the teamwork.
Speaking of special offers, the Orange Box is going for 66% right now. Figures. I just bought it for my friends' birthday.
One last note. Is this going to quieten the CoH doomsayers? People who say the game will run out of players and shut down? 'Cause as player spikes go, this is gonna be big.
First person who says DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM to me gets a thwack to the back of the head.
EDIT: Weird, it still thinks it's my birthday.
Necrobond - 50 BS/Inv Scrapper made in I1
Rickar - 50 Bots/FF Mastermind
Anti-Muon - 42 Warshade
Ivory Sicarius - 45 Crab Spider
Aber ja, natrlich Hans nass ist, er steht unter einem Wasserfall.
Ooooh COHers on Steam...do you guys do fragfests often?
Haven't done much FPS in a while but I do still have my old copy of halflife 2 and I was just in gamestation a few days ago and saw the Orange box for 15 quid!
So I may get it... and need a familiar community to practice my headshots on.
Edited: Ok I just noticed it's just over a fiver on Steam DOH! so I bought it.
There's a lot of fragfests goes on over Steam in the community I linked to, it's mostly Left 4 Dead atm, but we did have a quick HL2 deathmatch the other night for old times sakes
And thanks to the Orange Box I'm now enjoying the joys of Portal at last!

Oh, and to stay on topic, we had a new CoH player join us last night1 I think he'd just bought the game on Steam and came in to ask advice about the NC site, which was still behaving badly, so it looks like Steam is helping after all

I used to be of that opinion, until I actually used Steam a few times. Sure, you could argue that digital delivery should be cheaper as there's no DVD printing costs, or packaging costs etc, but the distribution servers have to be paid for, and so does the bandwidth to delivery that content to you. It all adds up and could easily match the costs for physical distribution.
Just look upon it as a bit more environmentally friendly. Plus, you also get to reach customers in countries where your game might never have been released before.

yeah. This is a good move. Certainly can't hurt that's for sure.
Don't get into a flap. It's only my opinion and I'm thick
Arc 56763 Lord Anarchys heaven
2 mission arc. Bring friends cause Lord Anarchy means business...
Up for one or two days and Guild Wars Trilogy is already #4 in the Top Sellers listing on Steam.
FINALLY!!
After so long of trying, i finally got the mail confirming it had applied, checked in game and the power was there, also, on the account the extra months time has also been applied, so I can confirm one hundred percent, the code works via steam
Applying the code via the NC Soft account system, on the hand.....is a bloody nightmare! That SERIOUSLY needs sorting out if you want to get new players in the game. I dread to think how long it takes to actually create a new account to get started. GR, if you're reading this, pass the feedback on, please
