Oh so that's what it was! I did ask but she didn't say.
I am not surprised at the ban but would suggest that its probably a joke (satirical?) made more at the idiocy of past comic publishers that did not of come out as intended.
[/ QUOTE ]
There were people saying that sexist portrayals of women in games based on comics were ok, because that's the way they were portrayed in comics, so I was pointing out the problem with that idea - it means you'd have to include all the other "traditional" things from comics, like the racism - if you're going to try and excuse negative gender portrayals as traditional, then you have to try and excuse negative racial portrayals too - they're both equally bad.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ahh but the portrayal of women that way in comics continues, however the racism has ended unless of course the comic is written by Reginald Hudlin
[/ QUOTE ]
That's my point - it's double standards - you can't have racism = bad, sexism = ok - they're both forms of discrimination, and if a game is going to allow sexism because it's part of the source material "tradition", then they're also going to have to allow racism for the same reason.
[/ QUOTE ]
You can have racism as long as it's not against a minority.

No you can't - it's still discrimination, and discrimination is wrong.

Well, to enter Hazard Zones, you have to kinda squeeze the guards until they let you through
[/ QUOTE ]
It's where you have to squeeze them.....
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, it is only realistic. Do that to a RL policeman (not the kind you meet in a nude bar for women) and you end up in a hazard zone, too.
Oh, and I have a little test for some of you:
This "discussion" about sexism in comics being equally bad as racism
a. hurts
b. is comparing apples to oranges
c. needs to be taken elsewhere.
Hint: more than one answer may be correct.
If it has eyes, you can blind it, if it has blood, you can make it bleed, if it has a mouth, you can make it scream.

Ooh, Phone a Friend!
And surely B is blatant Fruitism?
Well, there is a certain degree of fruitism going on in comic books. In most cases fruits are depicted as something to be consumed by the oh-so superiour human race or, especially in the case of apples, even by lowly animals (e.g. pigs).
Fruitism sure is distasteful... but delicious.
If it has eyes, you can blind it, if it has blood, you can make it bleed, if it has a mouth, you can make it scream.

Not really, it's more a case of chips and shoulders.

Rofl.Problem is the gender-based one only happened in your brain.Getting fired up over the amount of clothes one character is portrayed to wear is not exactly a gender insult.
And yeah i am guessing you are on the verge of posting an apology for all the gender based one liners you have delivered in the past.Just to stick to the "doubles standards" rule.
You know you're addicted to CoX when you sleep in nightclubs in hope that they'll give you the clubber badge.

Yeah, I can totally see how being portrayed as sexy is completely as bad as being portrayed as dumb and criminal or as helpful but insignificant "boy", especially since there are absolutely no bad*erm*behind superheroines like Ms. Marvel and Jean Grey who show that being sexy is not the be all and end all of female existence and who can throw punches (or worse) with the best of male superheroes.
Poor, poor females! Boo-frickin-hoo!

Of course not! As we all know sexism is only bad if it is directed against women.
If it has eyes, you can blind it, if it has blood, you can make it bleed, if it has a mouth, you can make it scream.
Please steer this thread back into at least some semblance of being about City of Heroes.

I remember one woman saying "Only men are sexist" which is not what all women will say. This among other things helps to see your point.
But I like GGs points too. However women do contribute to making "raunchy" characters too.
I thought this was a better topic than the actual topic.
He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.

Yea i wonder if you took at all the female alts in CoX how many of them would be played by women and how many of them would have "raunchy" costumes. also of those played by males how many have non "raunchy" costumes.
