MA - Mission Code
[ QUOTE ]
So for example my Archvillain simulator of ultimate doom.
Would have the code: s0h1A2d2c1p1 or for short: a2d2
Any ideas? Suggestions? Comments? Improvements to the system? Ways to help implement this or a similar system?

Well [- H AA DD C P] might be better then s0h1A2d2c1p1 for quickly reading it, or at lest [S0-H1-A2-D2-C1-P1].
A tag for whether the story is villainous, mercenary, dark heroic, or goody-two-shoe might be another thing that would be nice. Say adding a Moral going from 0 (no moral) to 3 (very moral) to the code.
I would take one look at such coding, think "WTH is that gibberish?", and choose a different arc...
Sorry, but... no. Silly idea really... What's wrong with English?

Nothing. But i think a lot of people want to use the description to tell about their story. Use that probably limited space to say.
Highly Deadly yet slightly Humorous story where you will be tested against every Arch Villian I could find.
Might be another way of saying exactly the same. However it would take for more space. While a fast code could perhaps even be used in the title.
Plus not every user will be english. I am sure that german and or french players with little english reading ability (and i have met a few of those) are not interested in grandiose english prose but might be tempted to do a good deathtrap mission.
I don't really see the use of the codes, besides that they don't make much sense unless you are told about them.
The story should be in the mission(s) itself either by clues or contact(at least as far as I know that is how it works), not in the description box. The description should be short and:

is very accurate and yet short, even for those people who only know a little English.
If your code would be used in the title I would not even play the mission...

@Lyrik
I agree with FFM. We're creating missions here, not working as a CIA code breaker. A simpler system would be a section called "Purpose" when you find a story arc stating "Deathtrap" "AV" "Story" etc (basically your suggestions).

Um...there are German and French servers, you know? And if it's Spanish/Dutch/Liechtensteinan players with little English speaking ability, then they're going to have trouble understanding the whole game, let alone the MA.

A code that would confuse the general public...
Films and books only have titles, taglines and a tiny blurb on the back giving you the gist of the story. This has worked for decades.
No code please.
In other places, tags work just fine and are far more self-explanatory
[HUMOR] - humorous arc
[HERO]/[VILLAIN] - for heroes or villains.
[HARD] - very difficult arcs
[KHELDIAN]/[SOA] - arcs intended for epic ATs
and so on. The only problem with them is someone will always try to put every tag that applies in their title, so you end up with something titled...
[SG][HERO][HUMOR][KHELDIAN][BORK][BORK][BORK] Not enough charact
and then they run out of letters in the title.

The MA system is for every server at the same time. This does include french and german servers.

So what? A code won't solve it. Even if they do understand it, it'll be too confusing for the general public.
Anyway, they can use a internet translator if it's in English. Something that doesn't take longer than 5 mins.

That might work depending on how much space you got. Though it is a bit long for my taste.
well, that's just what gets used on some forums, mailing lists etc. And those are just examples.
I think, generally speaking, that it's a bit early to be trying to work this out. Once we see the MA interface, people will start using acronyms, codes and tags that are customised to the interface's requirements.
And given that the people in closed beta have probably started standardising some codes to make searching the mission list easier, any plans you make may have been superceded already.
"The Hamidon is a what what of what?" - Brian the mission guy.
I think the Developers themselves will take care of that sort of thing. It would be a very poor search engine if it didn't let you sort for some of the more sought for parameters. No need for player created codes.

I don't wanna talk about MA until we can play it as it's too much like masochism. *grumble* closed beta *grumble*

Tough. I want to speculate about it until we get some solid facts. That's how the internet works.

Nice try at something that could help if it felt natural.. but it doesn't and I think your non-English speaker argument actually goes against the coding.
If I, as a native english speaker, sees the following 'R2D2S1A0' I'd need to refer to your handy lookup guide, unless I just guessed that the first half of the arc was a Star Wars homage.
[ QUOTE ]
story (where one tries to tell a nice story)
humor (Take this story with a pinch of salt)
aV (here be Arch Villains for you to slaughter. Bring friends)
deathtrap (how much thought is put into making this mission as deadly as possible)
canon (do we try to stick to the CoH universe or go way beyond the scope)
puzzle (here thinking is required to solve the mission)
[/ QUOTE ]
So that's the lookup table that should mean something to English speakers...
What of the French and Germans? Why on earth do you think that p would mean puzzle content for a German? I'd have to look at the table to remember what p meant as a native English speaker...
IIRC German word for puzzles is 'rätsel' - why would a p make any sense as an abbreviation?
But put the whole word in a description and the German speaker has a fighting chance of recognising it, much as I'd recognise 'rätsel' in a German description even if the rest of the sentence was double-dutch to me.

With MA coming I realized we need a system to differentiate between the various entries, because some like good stories, where others want an alternative way to level up. Some want to prove themselves against every AV in the game and others love to create diabolical missions. Now you can do a lot in a good description but what I think is that we need is a code system that is easy enough to understand and precise enough to tell us what to expect.
Some categories I had in mind:
story (where one tries to tell a nice story)
humor (Take this story with a pinch of salt)
aV (here be Arch Villains for you to slaughter. Bring friends)
deathtrap (how much thought is put into making this mission as deadly as possible)
canon (do we try to stick to the CoH universe or go way beyond the scope)
puzzle (here thinking is required to solve the mission)
And then with a rating form 0 to 2 (0 not important, 1 neutral, 2 purpose of the arc )
So for example my Archvillain simulator of ultimate doom.
Would have the code: s0h1A2d2c1p1 or for short: a2d2
Any ideas? Suggestions? Comments? Improvements to the system? Ways to help implement this or a similar system?
