MA Question

Ok so here's the scenario

I14 lands
The world and his dog test it out. They will have their heads buried in their Opus (yes, you did read that correctly. It's easier to distinguish than an elbow )
So there's gonna be nobody actually playing on the servers.
Remember dual blades & willpower? If you played anything but you'd get spammed with team requests constantly for a month

So how are you gonna TEST this great work of yours? You'll need a team of 8 because you want it to be a tough challenge - and there's you and your mate Bob - he's kinda like your sidekick, except that you need him more than he needs you. How will you know if your mission works?

Your SG will be vying for "BEST MISSION EVAH award" and so they'll all be busy and everyone on coalition will be huddled in a darkened room tweaking their grate werk. But it'll take some time for you to get any feedback from it.

Ok there's a liberal slice of tongue-in-cheek in the above (yes, really!) but I hope my point is at least vaguely serious. How will we know if any missions are good, and perhaps more importantly, how will a player know if that mission they've crafted is any good?

A simple thumbs up or down is ok but imagine this: you create something great, you're proud of it (and I assume that most people will develop something they'd like to see) but I'm also concious of the fact that often the best works are refined over time. Very few stories get published unedited, so how can a player receive constructive feedback outside of their nearest and dearest - who, in my experience, are often not the best people to give you that feedback because their judgment is coloured by their relationship with you.

The short version of the question is: How do you say to somebody "Fantastic mission in Boomtown vs the Council but dropping Ghost Widow and 15 different GMs on us in that ambush was a bit much"?

IIRC from the audio on Massively (the opening of the cans of pop really hurt my ears) as part of the rating system I thnk there may be a feedback system, where you can send the creator of a MA mission a message telling them what you think about it.

(of course I'm sure no one will use it to send abuse natch !)

"Thumbs" ratings were changed to "stars" ratings somewhere alonh the way, btw. As for testing teams... Could be tough, even after initial excitiment dies down, because there's no XP in it...

There is xp in it. And influence/infamy/prestige too.

I'd like there to be a comments box as well as the star rating to select.

But how do you filter out "j00 r teh SuXXors lol"?

Only if you run it without testing options, IIRC (or even only if you've actually published it.) And anyway, typical testing with lots of iterations, tweaks etc, might be SLOOOW and risky, not the usual 8-team... err... chaotic run with everyone on SB, phants, fire monkeys and stuff jumping in all directions and nukes going off...

I'd guess that anything not published is counted as 'testing' - even if it's effectively finished but 'private' content (e.g. for SG RP arcs).

Well, the same way they will keep on eye on low star ratings

Playing my missions? I'm going to be using my little brothers account to post them the rate I'm writing them.

That's kind of the point.

I know there's a bucketload of talent out here, but I speak from personal experience when I say that when I've got the creative juices flowing it doesn't always come out the way I initially intended. How will you ensure you're delivering a quality adventure from that great concept that was in your mind? How do you know that anyone will give a monkeys? What's to say that it got the thumbs down for one aspect wheras the rest of the content was great?

Who judges it? Who helps you improve?

About writing, tell me about it, Human Justice was supposed to be a single piece about the capture of the Maestro of Mayhem, how it turned into a Nemesis plot I still don't know.

As for the feedback, I'm hoping for a comments box, failing that I'll probably advertise them on the boards and request feedback there although this limits the feedback to this side of the pond.

Needless to say, April will be very interesting.

Well you'll still have the people with no real interest in MA creation playing, and maybe they'll play your missions to say they tried atleast a portion of MA.

of your you could accidentally inspire us to then make something ><

Well I expect we will see a special forum for just that purpose Scarlet, assuming there is not much room for the feedback we would love to get. If your masterpiece is finished, you can ask for feedback on the forums.

Plus a MA architect channel sounds like a good idea as well.

Well, not at my PC at home right now to check, but IIRC, it's called Mission Architect... Ask Mumsie!

Just had a thought as well, with the nice "save cossie" feature and the MA coming up it might be nice to have a respository of peoples fav cossies for others to download and use in the MA for their arcs.

Of course half the fun of CoH is messing around the cossie editor but if one was happy for people to use their mains or alts 'fairly' (ie not saying things like "I'm a stupid-head" as their AV dialog) it could be useful.

Everything is a Nemesis plot.

I really should do something about this signature.

Even it is still too early for me to say something exactly but as Jamie said i have little interest in moding (that thing always require more brain than i have) so i will try to play with others scenarios. Actually i am waiting for some forum members to do their works and test them more than MA itself.

To expand on that, I'm hoping that the custom critter creator lets us save the entire critter spec (it would make sense to allow this!). Then we could set up a "Critter Repository" for custom mobs we create that others might want to use! Hell, people could make entire custom villain/hero groups for others to populate their missions with!

You can, the save menu is visible in the screenshots.

Critters are saved as .critter files.

Absolutely awesome!

So, that's a costume repository, a critter repository... What else?
