Has anyone else noticed that none of the Rednames have posted since 25/11/2008...

Do we think they have taken Thanksgiving off, are they sick (if so hope you get better soon folks)!! Or have we all been behaiving ourselves that they don't need to post??

Your guess is as good as mine...

If the "next Tuesday" guesses are correct it could be the classic "pre-Issue" holiday. Gathering strength for the storm that is to come...

Depends what you mean by "devs". Do you mean our rednames, who are not devs, or the US rednames, some of whom are devs (and HAVE posted a little over Thanksgiving).

I've noticed GR hasn't posted, but he could easily be having a few days off after Memoribilia...

(Due to the forum software sucking, this post is largely redundant after FFMs post, but I'm damn well going to post it anyway. )

Define 'Dev.' People seem to say 'Dev' when they mean anyone to do with the game.

If you really mean NCNC staff posting on the US forums, then, yes, it's Thanksgiving. I don't think people over here realise what a big deal Thanksgiving is in the US. It's pretty much as big or bigger than Christmas here.

If you mean the renames here... they aren't Devs, mate.

Well GhostRaptor is off for a few days (he'll be back on Monday) and I'm working half days this week, mainly on behind-the-scene stuff.

I guess this is what you get for not bothering with holidays until the last moment. :/

But don't worry Big Brother is watching you...

Aha! The classic "yes, we know we never gave you time to take holiday before now, but you have to take it all by the end of the year" management strategy?

I know it well.

What do you do? Pretty sure that Christmas Day is one of the few days in the year that's actually a fully statutory holiday. Easter Sunday is the other one, but most people don't get to worry about it. (It's been a few months before I looked those regulations up mind.)

I'm wrong anyway. I just rechecked. No one has any right to have the bank holidays as statutory days off. As of Oct 1st 2007, you have an entitlement of 24 days holiday per year (assuming a 5 day working week). Most companies don't include all bank holidays as part of that time, but they are under no obligation to. As of April next year, you'll be entitled to 28 days, and since your nice employer doesn't include bank holidays, he has no buffer and has to give you the extra days. More fool him.

I'm a security guard so we have known about it since it was introduced. To make up for it our company decided that we couldn't take any holiday until we actually accrued it. As our holiday period runs april to march we can't take holidays off to coincide with school holidays any more. Parents who want to take a week at easter and 2 weeks in the summer are stuffed. June is the first time we can take a full week, and then october for a fortnight if we take the june holiday. We had a lot of people take a week or a fortnight in september who came back to find they hadn't been paid the holiday they were expecting. That was the first notice we got that the holiday situation had changed. Unfortunately our contract isn't specific. it only states that we are entitled to x days a year accrued at y rate. Any holiday taken in excess of holiday accrued must be paid back from final salary pay if we leave the company before year end.

Is it just me, or if you actually try taking holiday before the end of the year, do your managers then conveniently forget and start ringing up in screaming panic anyway?

Is it time for the dance of joy yet?

When I started to work for my present employer, who I will not name just to say a big name in retail,I was given a holiday form and told I was entitled to 152 hours holiday and that was before I had done a stroke of work.As I work a 39 hour week I start off on 25 1/2 days holiday including bank holidays of course so not bad for me.

Oh yes. Shame about that paperwork being printed and laminated, along with screenshots of the holiday database or they might have got away with it too.
