Itchy /ignore finger?
I wouldnt be able to say on which side of the pond is more susceptable to the ol' ignore function as I havnt perused the US side as yet, but from my own experience (and as I have stated previously im waaay to optimistic with people) I will only use the ignore function as a supreme last measure.
My main reason for this is twofold, firstly I would rather hope that if it is a pester/constant insult I would prefer to try and reason with the perseon, let them know this isnt that kind of community etc etc..and secondly because im really not going to take an insult in-game as a personal slant to myself...there are times when you have to step back and separate the fact you are interacting via a screen/keyboard and a lot of cables
I just think the whole thing comes down to personal reasoning, and how short your fuse is
(edit, anyone know if I can get a RL ignore function to deal with the missus' nagging? )

You're accusing US players of being ig-happy? That is SO presumptive.

Yes, but using it generally ends up with you being unable to ignore her hitting you round the back of the head with a frying pan.

But increase the chances of getting on a team you want to be on. It's a win-win situation.

I tend to agree with Wiffle (despite his avatar). If someone's on my ignore list, why on earth would I want to team with them. If someone would potentially be on my ignore list, why would I want to team with them.

Only one person ingame has ever made me so (whats the right word here that wont get bleeped out) (there that'll do) that shes been put onto the ignore list.
If someone is just rude or i just dont like them, then i use the rating system to reflect my characters point of view of them . Best way to deal with them imo since after all, people do change and they deserve their right to get a better rating (again from my own POV).
Would have to do something drastic to be put on my ignore list.

My searchcomment is: Any, and I do mean ANY, tell about powerlevelling, filling or farming will be Ignored. Which has led to about 25 people on my Ignore list. Works ok to get teams anyway.

I think there's currently one person on my ignore list. They tend to get put on transiently if they are being persitantly irritating right now, and then deleted later since I'm unlikely to ever see them again.
However, the point stands, why would you want to team with someone you dislike?

Like Khorak, I use a 'three strikes and you're out' rule for Blind Invites. And I think these are the only people I have in my Ignore list.

I agree with raven, but as I stated it would have to be severe for me to put someone on ignore status, one tell/blind invite isnt enough for me to warrant that and "dislike" is a strong word in a game where im interacting via a generated avatar and not face to face, I tend to give people a chance but if the offending act persists I will ask one more time, then and only then will I place them on ignore, I just cannot bring myself to just spam ignore function at every irritation, if that was the case my list would be full, as it stands I have one...from about 3 months ago iirc.
But as I stated before its all dependent on perspective and the issue at hand, what is one persons utter annoyance is anothers minor irritation, and some other peeps suggestion at using the rating system is a better usage imho.

Like said before.. I can't dislike someone that is only a person manipulating a digital avatar on a chat line... If I don't know you personally and you don't directly harrass me constantly... I give you a chance. I explain... and go into conversation. Being an asocial ******* would never helped my SG to rank 9. Communication is needed.
Some are new... others just need direction. The ones I have in my list now made these toons to harrass people. And kept doing so after several polite and adult remarks / attempts to communicate normally.

/ignore for me is a temporary thing, to prevent my having to deal with that person for now, when I'm perhaps not in the best frame of mind for responding in a sweet and oh-so-polite manner as befitting my 'mature mummy' status (if such a thing is not a contradiction in terms...!)
It's my equivalent of "Okay, you're <insert appropriate word here> me off right now, so rather than continue this pointless and quite frankly soul-sapping conversation I am going to pretend that I have vanished from the face of the server. Ba-bye!" Then about a week later I just clear off any /ignores that are up there. So far, in my 15 months of playing, there have only been 3 in total, so I guess that proves the huge majority of other players aren't THAT annoying
I love /ignore, and the ignore button on these forums.
No idea how many people I have on the in-game one but it's a lot.

huh? You ignored someone for calling your computer generated fictional character fat?
[/ QUOTE ]
Thin end of the wedge maybe? The person doing the ignoring might have had previous dealings with the other character. We have no way to tell.
The way I look at it, if you wouldn't walk up to a stranger in the street and make a comment, you shouldn't do it in a game either. The fact that in the street you're likely to get a black eye whereas in the game you'll just get ignored at worse, is no excuse.

I have a reasonably long list of people on ignore, composed mostly of griefers of roleplay and inf-sellers and powerlevel spammers. I even have one player on ignore for a very good reason I shan't share here due to forum policy. In general, if someone won't respond or listen to a polite 'No thanks.' or 'Kindly stop acting the fool and go play the game instead of making yourself a nuisance.' then I'll ignore them.
Edit: spelling.
I have no one on my ingore list and I've never ignored anyone. To be honest I'd forgotten the game had such a feature, however now I remember it has I'm still not sure in 3 years I've been annoyed enough to /ignore anyone,.
Though I have penitioned a couple of people for greifing, but I've not even /ignore them, I just swapped alts and left them to grief someone else til (hopefully) customer support had a quiet word with them.
I've been having a good read of both EU and US 'Rude Tell' threads and I'm shocked at how they /ignore people of some, IMO, rather silly things. For instance..

There are many I could quote but that would take a while and looking at the EU thread hardly anyone /ignores the other person. Which is a wonder to me. Did they forget to mention maybe?
I've had a few rude tells (most I've forgotten or can barely remember) but never ignored any of the players responsible. I have ignored people for other reasons but now the only people I have on my ignore list are inf spammers.
Am I being silly or are we EU players a little less /ignore happy?
