Game Crashes when I change characters

After playing COX for many years, recently it has become impossible to change alts without the game crashing (with an annoying sound loop thrown in) when I quit back to login screen. It allows me to type my username and password, but as soon I select the server that I want to play on the crash happens.

Please note that when I initially start the game, I can login fine, and play the game. This only occurs when I quit back to login screen and attempt to select the server.

What I am having to do is restart my computer in order to re-start the game. Sometimes this prompts a verifying files, sometimes it doesn't.

Can anyone advise? Sorry if this is covered in another thread, but I did spend some time looking at the other posts on here, but none of them seemed to match this problem exactly.

Not sure if there is anyway to help tbh, this has been happening to people for some time now, since issue 12 was released if I rememeber.

It was happening to me about every one in ten times before the last patch. Not happened since though.

I never had to reboot the whole PC. After a while with the looped noise, the game crashed box came up and asked what I was doing before it broke.

Yep is happing to me as well also getting sound loop when logging back in then a crash to desk top all since i12 for me as well

Just crashed...
Is rather annoying.
Based a true story.
Boyfriend was next to me and I said "I will just change character and show her to you... Unless I crash.".
End of story. *facepalms*

And yes. Since I12.

It's wierd cause on live i have no probs at all but test is doing it to me after every toon change

Not being funny but I wouldnt bother reporting it. Both myself and people I know have reported it, support goes through loads of bits then finally escalates it, which basically seems to mean they dont know so they are going to pretend they never received it.

There is a thread somewhere either here or US side that gives a workaround if you want to fiddle with code etc, though personally if a player can solve it for people, i,m not sure why the Devs or support cant.

If you read what I said, both me and others have and to absolutely no effect whatsoever, but it was reported for what little good it did.

shazan: a simple facet of software development and bug squashing is that the more data there is available, from multiple sources, the more likely a solution / fix / workaround is going to be found. A further thing to keep in mind is that the resources available to the dev team are not infinite. That means that *everything* gets prioritised. There are a lot of factors that go into prioritising what does and does not get worked on, however it is generally the case that as the number of unique reports about a specific issue/bug increases, the higher that issue/bug will become in the priority lists for receiving resources.

Put simply: If you don't report it, we don't have the information we need to correctly prioritise. When support says they've escalated, that means the issue has been forwarded on to be investigated by the QA team and all further reports of the same issue will also be forwarded and tallied.

I totally agree with you GR but see our side too...
For us is like knocking a closed door. Not truth I know, but we have no way to figure that out.
Maybe if we can see the progress of our petitions, would be better.

For example, when I press the button to call the elevator, the lights show me that not only I've set something in motion but that elevator is actually moving and if I see floor numbers or hear the elevator coming, even better.

If I had just a button and no light or sound, then I wouldn't bother to press that button anymore and eventually go through stairs.

Without having constant feedback that will remind to us, the not patient people, that we actually helped, we lose the incentive of reporting.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but it's our side of things as been at the other side of that "button"...

That's exactly what the "has been escalated" message is intended for. Once it's escalated, if you don't hear anything that basically means there's nothing new to tell you. Unfortunately providing updates that pretty much say "there is no update" is not an efficient use of time when the team is constantly receiving new petitions that also need to be addressed. Hence, updates are only provided when there is an actual update available.

Just been on test server to do some X4 things and swapping toons didn't crash me today. I guess today's patch was a fix for this?

I do understand, but sometimes it is like knocking your head against the proverbial brick wall.

For example, I have just had the crash again (yes, the_rent, that means it isnt fixed), do I report it yet again, knowing I will get the endless stream of DX, Everest etc tests, or not?

Although I would dearly love to have it fixed, it is also a lot of hassle when you have done it before and nobody checks to see if you have.

Plus, if it has been escalated, technically you are dealt with, so you shouldnt report it again?

To be honest, also, it reeks of poor customer service too. Its the equivalent of me saying to a customer, oh I have passed it on to a manager so thats my job done but your bill will still stay wrong.

As for priorities, this bug is on peoples login screen, and I cant particularly think of anything more important than your customers being able to log in.

Well, all that plus I would probably get some numbnuts send an email saying "thanks for reporting your problem with Guild Wars", which I have had in the past.

Was there really any need for this? When all i stated was it didn't crash for me. I never said it was "fixed"

Why are you getting funny? All I was doing was saying that it wasnt fixed? Not getting at you or anything.......have you taken your tablets today? Paranoia is a terrible thing

Questions:

Do you actually want me to petition this as well as filling in the little game crashed box?
Does the little game crashed box actually send anything to NCNC?

Statement:

The current system of giving progress on petitions could be improved. There are several web-based systems for handling this which do not require your developers to constantly send out notices saying "no new news," but do give the users the opportunity to log in to a web page and see that there is no new news.

Anyway, this happens to me once in a while since I came back. If it needs petitioning as well as the crash box thing, I'll start petitioning it. It's annoying.
