Bill always got the low digit am patrols , 2am till 6am , he guessed the PPD sergeant reasoned as he never slept , he would not mind , and it drew less stares from the public ...
He was just nearing Steel Canyon Railway station when the ALL UNITS squawk can over the radio .. a quick hop cross town on a empty train car delivered him to Kings , in time to see the influx of black and whites and hear the rumble of SWAT boots ...
Given his zombie looks Bill found it easy to herd the few bystander clear of the expected impact site , and found just enough time to start chatting to Detective Resmon about crime in Kings , before the air was sliced by a eye watering incandescent glowing ball , the sound following a second later came as a ear stunning growl and whistling shrill cry ..
Bills dead eyes and ears, unaffected by the intensity , followed the sight as it cut its way across Kings...Firing up his rocket boots Bill flew after the meteorite , and , thanks to hours of practice , managed to safetly land some 40 Yards from the resting place ....
All of Bill senses peered at the hissing red glow ......
oh bugger , no chance of this shift ending on time ...
As the echoes of the crashing impact faded away, the helmeted figure of the Portent rose from behind the rooftop water tank he'd used for cover, and moved to the edge of the roof to get a better view of where the falling object had embedded itself in the concrete. He'd miscalculated the point of impact by quite some distance, but the place where it had chosen to come to rest was... interesting, nevertheless.
Are they attacking us again? Not consistent with their previous methods or tactics... but no sense in taking chances.
He crouched on the roof-ledge to reduce his visible profile and began a sensor scan of the object, not certain what he was expecting to be able to see. Was this anything other than a stray piece of rock? What would it mean if it was?

Standing on top of one of the rooftops of Kings Row stands Tower of Power, staring at the falling meteor in the light of dawn.
As the meteor crashes he feels a twitching in his hand. In his hand the clockwork he crumbled up into a ball started to reanimate and try to get out of the restrictive condition.
Taking aim once again, Tower of Power throws the ball to his intended target: a partially constructed Clockwork Prince two roofs away. The impact scatters not only the parts of the Prince but also knocks one of the constructers off the roof.
With a customary elbow jerk and exclaiming Bullseye! Tower of Power leaps off the roof towards where the meteor crashed, interrupting his morning game of Clock Ball.

It had only been a few weeks since he'd taken to the streets of the Row. Kinsey grimaced before pulling on the custom biker jacket he'd "acquired" since his release from prison. He strapped his ninjato to his back, tightening the straps on his chest before pushing open his apartment window and climbing out. The impact in the distance was already drawing the best and worst of interests from the streets. He leapt easily onto the adjacent rooftop before running towards the commotion. There were bound to be people taking advantage of the distraction. After all he would have, in the past....There'd have to be someone watching the streets when everyone else was watching the unfolding atronomical drama.
In the wake of the meteor's flight path, Storm Sapphire was struggling to stabilize his shields and flight pattern. The Awakened Officer had flown up with a group of other heroes, deploying blasts or sheer brute force to try and divert or stop the meteor, to no avail. The wave of pressure from its trail had sent the Peacebringer hurtling out of the way, energy fields flickering as he span.
"Alright Michael, that was a little too close for comfort." His Khelidan's voice sounded in his head. "That was almost a-"
"Don't say it." Michael grimaced.
"Close encounter of the-"
"I'm warning you!"
"First kind." The symbiote said drily, seeming rather amused with itself.
"The years will never dull or rust your rapier wit, will it?" The police officer sighed, before picking up speed as he began to glide towards the impact site, arms stretched out in front of him. Tendrils of Kheldian energy streamed behind him as he cut through the air, angling his way to ground zero.
From within the baseball grounds, a hatch opened, revealing a thin redhead in a beaten leather jacket. Behind her stood a man of immense proportions with a concerned look on his face.
Are you sure you want to go out there Saffy? asked the huge man as the girl peered out.
Ill be fine dad, honestly, she replied, Ive been doing this for over two years now. I just want to see whats happened. The Dugouts built to take a beating but I dont want to see it damaged. I dread to think what the rest of The Militia would do without their beloved base. Ill be back in no time.
Brian Mackenzie smiled and watched his daughter pull on her facemask, the one she always wore when she became The Amber Banshee. Ok, just be careful, he said, ruffling her ginger hair. You need a hand, give me a shout. Ill be working on the Genome Resequencer.
Saffron grinned and made the motion of a plane zooming over her head, a common joke between them whenever he talked science. Then she turned and leapt clear from the base entrance and over the wall, into the street where the meteorite sat glowing. Steam was rising from around it, creating an eerie fog that sat at waist level in the street. Even from a distance of 100 metres, Saffron could feel the heat radiating from it. The police had already cordoned off the area but one flash of her license got her past the yellow tape. A couple of scientists stood around with giga-counters, checking each others readings. But even they were keeping a good distance. She strode past them and peered into the fog, just making out the glowing red shape as it sat in its crater and a few figures of heroes a little bolder than her.
Dont let it be Shivans, she muttered to herself as she waited for the fog to clear.

Frank Brewer stirred from his dozing as his apartment shuddered around him. Through his half-open left eye his semi-conscious brain registered blurry images from the TV set, left playing in the corner with the volume turned down low enough so as not to disturb him, yet loud enough for his sister Charlie to hear. Frank's eye slowly drooped shut again.
Suddenly he was jolted out of his warm, soft and beautiful sleep by violent hands laid upon his shoulder.
"Wake up, ya dozy..." Charlie was excited and noisy. He hated this. "Frank - get ya Hot Suit - there's a frikkin' meteor at the end of the block!"
Frank waved an angry arm at his sister but nonetheless dragged himself into an upright position. He yawned and looked longingly at the cushion where his head had lain so happily until a few seconds ago.
"Frank!" his sister yelled. He heard her clattering around behind the sofa. She was pulling on her own armour. He sighed and hauled himself to his feet. His sister's suit may look good, but his "hot suit" was the original and best.
Twenty minutes later, the burnt-orange armour of the everyman vigilante Firearm clunked onto the roof of the soot-stained apartment block, and Frank checked the suit's sensors within the helmet.
"Charlie's right..." he thought, grinning to himself inside the metal casing and watching the pillar of dust and smoke mushrooming into the grey air near the new ballpark.
With a thought he ignited the mini-rockets in his boots rose into the air. Not unexpectedly they cut out and he plummetted back to the roof, landing on his armoured butt with a crash and a string of expletives. Growling a string of even more inventive expletives, Frank slammed the spluttering boot against the chimney stacks and tried again. He rose, sparking alarmingly, but this time he hovered. His synapses fired a signal and the suit's magnetic thrusters kicked in. Guided by the bio-electric impulses from Frank's brain, the suit turned in mid-air toward the site of impact...
Sitting in a Starbucks along Kings row, Fanservice had stopped in after visiting a former kidnap victim, just to check they were doing aright. Thankfully, they were fine and so her day was fairly open so she had took the time to eat a pastry, drink a small coffee and speak with her agent on the phone. The conversation was getting a little heated though and a few funny looks were getting passed her way, well funnier than usual considering she was wearing a costume straight out of a Tarintino Movie.
"Look, I don't mind the toys I was shown so don't worry about that they're great! But I've a problem with the villain Anti-Freeze"
"Well he doesn't exist! I mean people are going to notice that. You made him up!"
"They will notice. Some of them know more about who I've fought than I do! I was totally lost at the questions panel last year, I didn't know Rip Tear was a Villain with a big following and I wasn't paying attention to his banter I totally dropped the ball there, why can't you do him anyway?"
"How can he have his own toy line? He's a criminal! That's so unfair! Look, it doesn't matter anyway, the point is you're not making someone up, I'm the one who's going to get bothered about it!"
"I don't care if his costume took a lot of design, unless you're going to put it on and come fight me with it I've still never fought him! This is get- uh, I've got to call you back. There's a meteor about to crash into the city, I can see it through the window. I'll finish this later!"
"No that's not slang! Speak later!"
Hanging up Fanservice gives an apologetic wave to the till staff as she made her way rapidly outside. The echoing crash as the meteor tore up pavement already ringing off the sides of the high rise buildings. Fans jumped off the street, leaping high enough to land on a nearby roof. The smoke trails were easily visible and Fans quickly decided it was best to go see what on earth was going on, moving along the rooftops to get a closer look.
The nameless being ((Anonymous)) was sleeping or at least, gave the impression of sleeping, on a rooftop, pondering mysteries or perhaps just thinking up new rhymes it watched the stars through lidded eyes. The glowing shape as it fell through the air, caused the being to spring to his feet in a pantomime of mock surprise, always giving a performance even alone, it cupped its chin theatrically and pondered in a sing son voice.
'Oh me oh my did the sky fall? From their beds it will people haul'
Stepping off the building it headed in the direction of the fallen rock, despite its fall being broken by garbage it seemed almost gleeful as it sprinted down the deserted streets, a crazy white jester like shape running as fast it could, the sight of peoples emotions was its food, and something like this?
This would be a banquet.
Brawling Cactus from a distant planet.
Floating around fifty foot up away from the meteor, energy crackled round Storm Sapphire as he watched. The searing blue-white energy behind his glasses flickered and twisted past the dark lenses as he observed the situation.
"Officer Michael Preston reporting in at the impact site... no activty so far." The man spoke into his commslink, bobbing up and down slightly with his arms folded.
A quick flick of a switch changed the channels on the comms device. "BODICIA, Michael here. At the scene in Kings Row, nothing to worry about yet, but keep alert and ready to send back up if needed."
"Isn't this exciting?" His Kheldian side chuckled. "A giant Kinder egg from space. Look at all the brave, happy children struggling to open it, so eager to find out what their toy is."
"You're in a droll mood today, my friend." Mike sighed.
"Perhaps. Anyway, this has your mind on other things, which is good as I was begining to tire of your pondering to marry Eloise. You know when you want to do it, you know you love her, so do it. Honestly, my dear, it's not rocket science..."
"Mmmmh... anyway. Meteor."
"Yes. Meteor. A convinent deus ex machnia to continued conversation."
In a special redecorated room within the Dugout Feline Surbast was in deep prayer. Sitting on her knees and touching the floor with her shoulders. In front of her a statue of the cat goddess Bast stood. Incense burning at the base
candles where alit alongside the walls. Her white dress was reflecting the light in an mysterious way. The make-shift temple Feline had hallowed within this technological base since she and the Militia had recovered the Eyes of the Huntress had come a long way indeed.
Almost fifteen minutes ago her body had felt the tremors in the floor. But she didnt let that break her trance. Deep in her mind a voice rose up
Falin
Falin
innocents are in danger. Our help will be needed outside.*
The young woman raised her head looking straight into the emerald stones that made up the eyes of the idol
and her own eyes turned yellow
fur was forming on her skin and her tail reappeared. When her goddess would call, Nightseye would be there. Leaving her dress behind in front of the altar she rushed out.
She jumped around the corner only to hit something enormous and moving. It was the father of Saffron
the Amber Banshee. Watch it kitty lady!!!, he called out. Not that he felt anything at all. Nightseye her body mass was waay to light to even be able to get him staggering.
My excuses Mr. Mackenzie
there is an emergency outside I have to be., Nightseye explained fast while running towards the elevator.
Reaching the Kings Row exit she was looking at the chaos the meteor, which was obviously the cause of the tremors she had felt, had left. Police was running around keeping civilians away. The press was already setting up cameras. Her sharp eyes also noticed several heroes on rooftops or in the sky arriving. Then she saw Amber.
Three fast and high jumps made her land softly and silently right behind the Militias leader. What is that
red thing Amber?, she asked without warning.

Saffron turned to see the feline creature appear almost from nowhere. She wondered just how reclusive Nightseye had been to not recognise a meteorite.
That? she said, indicating the cooling rock, Probably just a hunk of rock but you cant be too careful
It was at that point that there was a cracking sound, like an egg but much louder. Peering into the mist, Saffron could see that the meteor had a large opening in it, about a foot wide. She couldnt see into the dark interior but there was a low buzzing sound that seemed to emanate from inside.
Oh well, screw the lump of rock theory, she muttered.
Something seemed to be moving. Growing from the rock was a long tendril with a bulbous end, extending upwards into the air. Once it reached a height of three feet, it began to rotate, as if looking around itself. There was no indication in its movement of its intent.

....a long tendril with a bulbous end, though Bill , well we must not judge on looks , still chances are not what we are in the business of taking .....
Bill moved closer , his eye coping with the dark night and the still glowing rock far better than a humans could , he sort any details or marking to indicate who , what and where this newcomer was from ....
keeping a focused watch on the bulbous end of the tendril , he scanned the area for other people , heroes , crooks, bystanders , news teams .....spotting some costumed clad heroes , Bill waved to them ..
any idea's ? ... not had much experience with outer space types beyond the Rikti ...whats the normal form ?
High up in the sky, hovering almost completely still, was VGX-3 Enforcer it was nothing more than a robotic battlearmour suit. It's large hulk of a powersuit which was mostly silver in colour with the odd lines of bright blue across it's armour, the shoulders of it had opened up and deployed it's flight wings and boosters from its legs and back.
It had be monitoring the metorite as it had came over Paragon City, but it's A.I progarm had computed that it's course and speed wasn't enough to cause major damage the city and that it had scanned the object as best it could but was unable to scan more than the outer surface of it for an unknown reason.
Suddenly it's visor screen flashed up with data steams and results.
Object: coded: 879-RM. Scan: Incomplete: Unable to detect past surface level.
Course: Ended. Impact site: Kings Row: Area: 17.
Unit: Command: Investigate impact: Locate danger: Assist Heroes: Removal of object for study: Return to base.
With it's orders found and understood it slowly began to hover down towards the city below, the roar of it's boosters would be the first thing anyone would know as it came.
Tower of Power checked to see if his sword was still secure on his back as he spotted the 'tendril'
Upon hearing Bill's question, he answered: "Most I've met are mostly humanoid, or energy beings... not sure what this is, but tentacles fall in the 'not good' category by default."

Metaphyte jumped over the fence near the train station and ran down the street. Meteors, regardless of source, weren't good...
She stopped, flexed her vine-covered fingers, and watched as a small cloud of spores wafted off. Glancing down the street, she could just make out the impact site. She adjusted her mask, and headed down.
"Hey, anyone know what's happened?"
Kinsey dropped onto a building that clearly overlooked the crash site. He nodded at a few of the gathered "heroes" and pulled his face mask off as though seeking to get a clearer look.
"Name's Gall," he said to noone in particular. "And I've seen this movie and it didn't end well." He grinned sourly before turning his attention to the other buildings nearby, scanning them as best he could for signs of misbehaviour.
Most movies with aliens dont end well, said Amber as she watched the tendril complete its loop. Apart from E.T. I guess but that still made me cry.
The tentacle rotated once more, hesitated and then opened. The bulbous tip seemed to bloom like a flower, displaying a bright orange head of various filaments. It almost looked beautiful, like a radiant bud springing into life. It was then that the hum that had preceded the opening of the meteor went up an octave.
Without warning, the flower began shooting purple lightning in all directions. The spidery electricity arced across thin air, grounding itself on anything it touched. Lamp posts, cars, people, the assembled heroes, it radiated energy like an enormous Plasma Ball. Where people were hit, they jumped but were surprised to find that it did not hurt. The Amber Banshee managed to cry Oh crud...! before a blast hit her full in the chest. Although it knocked her back slightly, it did no damage and soon dissipated, leaving her with a faint tingling on her skin. Looking around her, she saw the flower shooting out the energy to all directions, hitting other heroes and people but not harming them. Soon, people were calming standing there, almost enjoying the alien touch. It felt like being caressed by an angel.
Well that was weird, muttered Amber as she watched the strange display, the electric tendrils playing around the area, touching, feeling everything it could.

VGX-3 had just about made it the roof tops as a bolt of energy from the bloom struck it. It's visor flashed up as the defensive systems came online fully, it's robotic hands and lower arms transformed into it's energy blasters cannons. Scanning the area it noticed the energy from the archs wasn't damaging what it hit, but was infact almost like it was searching for something or scanning about to see what was there around it.
VGX-3 shut off it's boosters and colapsed it's flight wings so it could fall the 100ft to the street below faster, as it impacted the floor, large cracks shot out and dented in under the weight of the suit. Slowly it walked out from it's own small crator it had made on landing and walked towards the group of heroes.
The nameless creature finally arrived at the scene of the commotion, with a bounding leap it caught hold of a lamp post, a brief scurry and it was perched on top ,watching the crowd below open mouth. Fear, interest, excitement and concern, the crowd below was a veritable smörgåsbord of emotions. An eldritch light formed in the beings mouth, as it feasted on the sight of the emotional people.
As the bud opened and lightning hit the crowd, the taste changed, becoming bitter with the sudden rise in fear, then as the crowd calmed it became sweat like honey melon.
What is the space born treasure, that shoots out light and grants pleasure? the creature questioned in a sing song voice.
Heedless of politeness or indeed, danger. The creature slid down the lamppost, and began to push its way through the crowd, drawing closer to the 'flower', seeking a better view.
Brawling Cactus from a distant planet.
Metaphyte flinched as the bolt hit, and was surprised at a lack of impact.
"That was... Odd... I can bet it's not good, though. Maybe that's a sort of scan?" she pondered aloud, stroking her chin.
She turned to the other heroes "Any ideas?"
Bill's dead flesh failed to react to the purple energy , but his brain decided this was not a friendly move ...
he slide the power setting on the energy blade to heavy stun ......and gripped the handle .....sliping it from its holster .
any one seen the like before ? ... anyone ? ...
"Possibly a scan of some sorts..." Storm Sapphire said with a slightly pained expression as he landed near the other heroes. "All I know is that the scan is making my Kheldian side giggle like the Pillsbury Dough Boy. It's... creepy." He said with a shudder.
"It's nothing like we've ever seen though, so... I'm stumped."
Fanservice dropped with a crunch near the assembling group a silver of ice over her eyes making them appear huge as she spies the thing from afar.
"Hi! I'm Fanservice and that thing doesn't look good. Hope it's not doing what I think it is, back home someone hexed a whole town to be in nothing but bliss... it didn't go quite to plan. They never moved again, just wasted away, all happy and content. I think some of them are still on drips, it's ... well it's not a bad thing I guess, but still I didn't like it."
Clicking her tongue she carried on watching, before glancing around "Oh! Just a thought. Don't mind me... never did like tentacles anyway, nothing involving tentacles ends well."

Colin Hammond sighed as he took up his post at the Paragon Astronomical Societys Skywatch station. Ever since the meteors had fallen in Bloody Bay several years ago, the Skywatch had maintained a 24 observation post, in case anything similar happened again and to keep an eye out for any Rikti portals that appeared, in case they decided to try and send another mothership to attack the city. However, for many years it was a thankless and boring task, forgotten about until the alarm bells started ringing. Colin, part of the five oclock watch, came in and sat down in front of the console, nursing his first coffee of the day. It was then that he saw that a red light was on.
Ten minutes later and the coffee lay untouched. The emergency services and Hero Corps had been alerted and now Colin Hammond, desk clerk, was on the phone to the mayor, having woken him from his slumber.
No Mr Mayor, I dont know how much damage it will do, he explained, flustered. A meteorite this size normally burns up in the atmosphere but this one didnt. We suspect its made of something other than just rock. He paused as the bleary eyed mayor bombarded him with questions. No, its not very big. But it is travelling very fast. I dread to think what damage it could do when it hits Kings Row. We need to evacuate that area as soon as possible!
Thirteen minutes later the skies opened above Paragon. The meteorite, travelling at breakneck speed, hurtled towards its destination, flames in its wake. The rock, or whatever it was, had proven too small to target with the citys defences. A few bold heroes had flown towards it, trying to deflect its descent but to no avail. As it tore over the city skyline, what citizens that were awake at that time turned to watch the projectile as it descended into the Kings Row area. It hit one of the streets that had fortunately been evacuated where it scored a mile long track of broken concrete before it came to a halt, just feet from the newly renovated baseball park. And there it sat, hissing, cooling and bright red from its heated descent.
