Ello Ello.

Having just turned threat level 40 with my Master Mind I ventured into Grandville to see what the fuzz on the Epic patrons was about.

And lo and behold. There was a Rikti Ambassador standing right in the middle of everything.

Now, I haven't done any missions for him yet, and I suppose I should.

But having done the first arch for the Vanguard I find myself somewhat confused.

What are the Rikti doing less than 200ft from Lord Recluse? I must be getting my lore mixed up

How can an enemy of mankind in general that even still attacks relentlessly get in the good graces of Lord Recluse?

There are two factions among the Rikti; Restructurists and Traditionalists.

The former just want to get along (i.e. Since the Rikti portals were cut off they figured they might as well try and make a life for themselves on Earth without too much focus on the annihilation of all life.

The latter are the ones who spend all their time trying to re-open the portals to allow the Rikti homeworld to send more ships through and begin the invasion anew.

To quote from one of Angus McQueen's missions:

Rikti are: Divided. Two Factions: Restructurist; Traditionalist. Traditionalists are: Fanatic faction. They seek: Iron-clad rule. They seek: Total recreation of: Home-Earth Rikti society. They are: Bound in: Old Second class citizens: For Traditionalists. Restructurists seek: New ways. Restructurist reforms: Blocked by: Traditionalist agenda. Traditionalists seek: Total rule of: Humans; Rikti; when: Home-Earth contacted

So, it's quite plausible that Restructurists would be forming ties with humans, even Recluse.

Ambassador Kuhr'Rekt is a Traditionalist*. You know, the kill-everything bad guys. The ones friendly with Vanguard and heroes are the other ones. Right now they're in a tight spot because of limited/almost no contact with the homeworld, so they're focusing on surviving and establishing stable footholds. To do this, they're apparently willing to bargain with Recluse for materials and the like, in exchange for technology (such as Arachnos Drones).

*(Based on the reply before me, that is. I can't remember which faction was which so I'm gonna trust the person.)

SPOILER

Actually, that's a Restructurist who wants to ally with Recluse to TAKE OVER THE WORLD! muahahhha...

Recluse has a very good reason on keeping Kur'Rekt nice and close.

You do realise that the Arachnos Drop ships, Arbiter dones are based on 'stolen rikti tech'...Recluse is simply keeping a finger in the Rikti Pie...much like he does with Crey and Malta

[/ QUOTE ]Isn't it the other way around? Traditionalists wish to rebuild the traditional rikti society, which is peaceful, while restructurists seek to build a new society with the lineage of war at the top.

Judging by Serpent Drummer's first mission, even if it is a Nemesis trap, it is indeed the other way around since the Traditionalists are the ones at the peace conference.

@Jay Leon Hart
Kerensky: this has nothing to do with underwear
Zwillinger: I put on my robe and wizard hat...
Synapse: I had to resist starting my last post off with "Yo dawg!"

So Kuhr'Rekt and the ones you get to defeat in missions are Restructurists and the ones in the ugly green robes are Traditionalists?

I miss the sexy nude rikties... Which faction were those?

The traditionalists are trying to negotiate peace with humans. They can be considered "blue side" rikti.

the reconstructonists want to continue the war, but at the same time are negotiating with Recluse, presuably out of a mutual desire to destroy Paragon's heroes. The can be considered "red side" rikti.

I really should do something about this signature.

I still don't get it though. If I was an evil alien being bent on world domination I wouldn't be negotiating while spending my resources on bombing small city districts here and there.

That just seems like tossing ones power base ever so surely away. No wonder that ambassidor is still in the lobby :P

Thing is, some of them 'ARENT' bent on world domination.

Looks like you didn't read anything written above, or any of the rikti based ingame lore. They're not 1 evil mass. they are a divided peoples

That just shows the limitation of your strategic imagination. If you can distract you enemies from the battle while your guys continue to bomb, if you can encorage them to fight each other instead of you, if you can enter his HQ and spy, that's an oprtunity to good to pass up.

And LR is thinking exactly the same way.

Diplomacy isn't about being nice to foregn powers, its "the continuation of war by other means".

The ambassidor is on the militant side though.

But niether faction is motivated by "we are evil aliens". They are both motivated self defense and fear.

Which makes no sense given:

"Traditionalists seek: Total rule of: Humans; Rikti; when: Home-Earth contacted"

Unless he was lying, of course.
