Ok, this is a quick mock up of an idea I had when I was posting about proliferation a while ago.

An alternative to the current Kheldian Epic ATs for heroes:

What this is: a quick overview of a Longbow Agent AT to be used as an epic AT for heroes.

Why: to give an alternative to the current Kheldians and to provide a direct counterpart to the Soldier of Arachnos Veat

My aim: to present a military style agent with the feel of a longbow agent but still allow customisation ( see the wardens) so that players get a feeling of variety. I don’t know if I have managed to do this as it is quite hard to give a sense of individuality AND a sense of uniformity at the same time.

The LongBow HEAT:
Longbow recruits come from normal soldiers recruited during basic training. During this time nearly all longbow agents learn the same skills. Basic training lasts until 4th level:

Inherent: Longbow Uniform Armour: 20% lethal resistance, auto.

Primary level power
Pistol Shot 1 ranged, moderate damage (lethal) rech: mod
Snapshot 1 range: minor damage, -acc, rech: fast
Round House 2 melee cone: moderate smashing, rech: mod


Secondary:
Baton 1 melee, mod smashing , rech: mod
Block 2 toggle +melee defense, rech moderate
Stun Rod 4 melee , moderate DoT, foe: stun

Once the trainee reaches 5th level he is fully inducted into the Longbow defense force and receives his upgraded armour: The next promotion step is at level 20. it is here that the soldier can start to decide to specialise between range, defense and melee.

Inherent: Longbow Uniform: 20% smashing / Fire resistance
Rifle Butt: melee: moderate smashing damage , recharge: medium

Primary level available effect:
Burst 6 lethal ranged DoT, rech Fast
Bonesmasher 8 high smash melee, rech mod, foe disorient
Slug 10 high lethal range, rech mod, foe KB
Spin Kick 12 mod smash, pbAoE (close) rech: mod
Flamethrower 16 high DoT (fire), rech: long
Chain Gun Auto 18 high DoT (lethal) , rech long

Secondary:
Caltrops 10 moderate DoT, rech Slow, lethal, foe – spd
Jet Pack 14 self Fly. Rech: long
Medkit 14 PBAoE Heal, rech: mod
Taser 16 minor DoT (elec) , foe: Hold, rech: mod
Maneauvers 18 team +Def all, PBAoE, 2.675%
Assault 20 team +damage, PBAoE, 13.5%

At level 21 the Soldier can enter the specialist training paths and must choose whether to continue in the rank and file or join the advance scouting units:

Choice: Nullifier or Chaser

Nullifier:
Building on the skills already learned as a soldier the nullifier is a fully trained close and medium ranged combat expert:
Inherent: Tactics
Buildup
Armour upgrade: auto 20% resist Cold , energy and acid

Primary: lvl effect
M30 grenade 22 AoE high lethal/smash , rech: long , foe KB
Sonic Grenade 24 AoE Foe – def all, chance foe disorient
Bean Bag 28 damage minor smash, foe disorient
Sonic Concussion 32 AoE , Hold 30% chance
Full Auto 35 Extreme DoT (lethal), rech: long,
Sonic Disruptor 38 AoE, foe Disorient, Extreme DoT (sonic)

Secondary: lvl effect
Sonic Shield 24 self: auto +15% resist sonic / lethal / smashing
Stamina 26 self: auto +recovery
Health 28 self auto +regen
Shockwave 30 PBAoE, Foe KB, % chance Foe Stun
Sonic Ram 32 melee Exteme Sonic/smash, Foe stun
Soundwave 35 melee Cone High sonic/smash , foe KB, Foe Stun

You are aware that all the wardens are combinations of currently existing ATs, right? And playing a nully = AR/ Blaster.

They'd need some pretty sick extra powers to compensate, otherwise why would I play this and not, a Spines/Regen with a clever costume called 'Spiney Warden'?

As others have said Longbow Wardens pretty much use existing powersets (there are over a dozen different types iirc) and Longbow Officers/Nullifiers and a lot of the normal soldiers just use AR/ attacks with a few extras on top - that would probably be ok for L1-24 if you were then going to branch into something more interesting (like Arachnos Soldiers do) but otherwise not so much.

Have you considered using Longbow Ballista for one of the branches (i.e. an /EM tanker that basically has some Energy Blast and Force Field powers on top)? The other branch could have Longbow Spec-Ops style powers (including Hide) that gradually turns into a Longbow agent - i.e. the same branch of Longbow led by Indigo & Crimson that also comprises Agent G (Faultline contact), Agent X, and possibly Ace McKnight too (the latter two being CoV enemies for villain players).

I think a Longbow Chaser would be a bad idea if you're permanently locked into the "chaser form", because then emotes don't work and it probably poses other in-game problems too. Maybe Chaser could be put in as an optional form as part of the Agent set, with a few attacks, and dealt with gameplay-wise like Kheldian shapeshifts.

Yeah I'm aware of that - I was just commenting on the OP's idea itself. It's not like many of the suggestions on this forum are really that realistic, but people like chucking ideas around.

Besides if a HEAT was done that was almost a cut/paste of Arachnos Soldiers at 1-24 but with a few new powers in each branch to make them more Longbow-like, then villains could finally get Nictus as a VEAT for parity

Vanguard might be more viable, seeing as they take anybody. Some form of Vanguard super-agent, perhaps.

the two main goodies are Longbow and PPD so i think there should be two AT's, the layout should be like this:

PPD Cop to Hardsuit or Psi-Cop
Longbow Agent to Nullifer or Spec-Ops

But we should keep kheldians and put kheldian like AT's in villains like Void and Nictus

So theres 2 Soldier like and 2 space like AT's for both heroes and villains


A total of 14 of my nerves have been harmed in the making of this post...

I want the PPD hardsuit! Last Halloween I went trick or treating on my mastermind *just* for that, then wore it constantly until it ran out - probably the only time mezzes actually bothered me on my mastermind because it meant I lost the hardsuit!

Considering how much I've enjoyed playing my two VEAT's I'd certainly be in favour of seeing something similar hero-side - some nice ideas here

How about a Tsoo EAT sometime that lets you pick whatever powerset combo you like (but not two from the same class such as two debuff sets, of course). Playing that Swift Steel Katana/Kinetics thing would be nifty, heh.

As for HEATs I dunno. I can't think of any hero factions with particularly unique powersets or thematics or signature powers. Longbow are just boring with horrible outfits, with the notable exception of Ballistae of course.

Vanguard sound sensible. Maybe something with to do with a new program training new recruits from both sides? And new contact could be lady jane heroside.

Isn't Vanguard solely there to fight rikti? Would kinda limit the playable content if they wanted to keep it in theme.

dunno tho.

Also aren't vanguard kinda neutral? I mean, they take help from both villains and heroes. Should be open to both sides then?

Yeah that was kinda the point. Being available to both sides that is. And peacebringers and warshades are there to fight nictus yet they arent limited

Good point, also Vanguard would make a useful:
1. Non Kheldian HEAT.
2. Non Arachnos VEAT.
3. Dual faction EAT.

Yes the Vanguard primarily fight the Rikti, however I see nothing wrong with them letting us have the ability to train up our levels on other targets.

'Vanguard level X' instead of 'Security' or 'Threat' level springs to mind.

Interesting point. Vanguard takes heroes from level 35+, so presumably their own staff would need to train up on lesser targets to get to that level before they were "put on the front line".

The Vanguard could have foes from pretty much all of the RWZ enemy groups, and the Lost. Hell, some could even have a bit of a beef with the Warshades/Peacebringers, same as they don't get along with Longbow.

Secondary set could include all the impervium armour, upgrades, psionic shields, things like that. Primary could have a branch, as example, of Vanguard Wizards.
