I know Ghostie, there seems to be some demand for villian RP. It's never going to work unless someone tries . If I try and the only thing I walk away with are a few more RP friends I will be happy

Glad to see that its not just me that wants more RP Villain side, even with some of the slightly negative view points I feel its best to try and as Wild said if it goes bad at least more RP contacts are made from it.

The monkey bar sounds interesting I'll take a look at that soonish.
Still trying to locate other Villain SG's. Only two Rp ones have been mentioned so far and I have been in both before I took my break and know they aren't for me so any others worth mentioning?

As for villain RP groups, The Cadre has just started, a bunch of crooks blackmailed into working together by some shadowy overlord. Their boss holds some incriminating evidence on all of them, thus overcoming the problem of an IC reason to work together. They don’t really want to but do so under duress. It’s early days, but it seems to have worked so far. Hopefully in time we’ll be in a position to oppose some of the established hero groups, maybe even indulging in some RP-PVP if we’re lucky.

[/ QUOTE ]

Feel free to look us up. We're listed in the SG sticky for more details.

If there was to be an event planned, I'd definitely try to attend even if, as mentioned, it's to make some more contacts villain side.

Hey Rock, sorry I missed this earlier was trying to get through the forums to quickly

Yeah sort of. I'm trying to mesh together bits and pieces from everywhere really. I am hoping to get something that is totally approachable and at the same time a reasonable justification for villians to all be in the same place at the same time.

There should be a bar in the outside zone that you can just travel too and enter. Aside of Pocket D.

One of the reasons why GG works is because it's in a starter zone. Anyone can just roll up a quick RP char and go right to GG without any problems. Any villain RP area needs the same criteria to work, really.

Another reason, though possibly less important these days, is a REASON for a meeting spot there. Whilst a lot of newer GGers don't know the history behind why there's a meeting place there; the whole thing started because there WAS a legitimate reason originally. That provided enough impetus to keep the place going until the original reason was no longer needed, and in fact, largely forgotten.

Monkey bar in Shark sounds like a valiable plan. Mobs around would be no problem at all with villains... As high level mm's just place their goons outside the door.

This is all in the same zone.. so that should be possible.

As this is a bar too.. it would be easy for the court to gather there if the 1st of the month falls on a freaky friday. Or for the Cadre to have a drink there before they go out for mayhem when their day out falls on a 1st.

He Rose... want to meet with Liz there tonight and check it out?!

i do agree any meeting place needs to be easy access for low lvl toons ... because CoV zone movement is not as easy as CoH .... GG is close to both the train , base portal and the police drones if you do get chased ....Mercy seems to lack such a suitable spot that is not filled with players ....the location needs to work for all lvls of char of the RP will not flow ...lots of the funs stuff at GG is the new chars that turn up ..

..off to run around Mercy to remind self of its layout

Posted

Mercy has a few spots I think that would do, the main being the Clocktower. Its possible to run a lvl 1 chr there with minimal hassle and its an easy found place to locate as well.

Though I am sure its possible to locate other places that would suffice for a smallish gathering.

There's a little island just off the beach at the villain starting point. You get some mobs there, but they're low level too and easy to clear off. There's a badge there too.

Part of why GG works is mainly because it takes 10 seconds to reach it on a newly created character, and you don't have to go near ANY mobs at all. Makes the spot perfect for RPing really.

EDIT: Oh, and Liz. I'd like to see a level 1 make it to the MFC alive, and in less than 10 minutes of buggering about to find it!

just strolled over to Chum island , the one Floaty mentioned , in fact not found any mobs on the island ...has plenty of space for people to sit stand etc .. has a tall pillar of rock for lurkers to lurk above upon ..

and you can by pass any baddies on the beach to get there ....

only issue is it is a long way (0.84 miles)from the ferry /heli access to Mercy ..but any higher char should have a travel power by then , and is near base portal

only other "easy" option would be some where on the coast of Mercy then any low level can swim there to avoid problems ...infact the area below fort dawin ..kalindas place id mob few ..but does have a mish door there...

Posted

Yeah I have just had a look at chum Island. There is one mish door on it. but there is a small beach on the opposite side of the island to the door. I have to agree that it may be a pain to get to for higher level characters being in mercy. but it is ideal for those level 1 only for rp characters. due south of Kalinda, it's really easy to get to. There were no mobs when I visited either.

Fantastic suggestion FFM, thanks

This is a similar problem in CoH.

I think the only way to get total interaction between heroes and viallins is to make a couple of zones which will allow both heroes and villains to interact. You could use one zone from Paragon City and one from Rogue Isles. This would have the knock on effect that players would only go into these areas as SG's rather than solo. This would solve your problem as to reasons why villain SG's are minimal.

I'd ask the Devs to do this on Union and allow people to transfer from and to Union and Defiant. Union would then be more RP oriented.

I know that I'll get lots of responses saying how this will not work but, if you do tell me it won't work because of X, Y or Z then I want you to also give a solution for X, Y and Z.

Ok, but only if you can tell me first how you would justify it storywise.

Storywise:

Well, I think that it would work better if it were just one zone in Paragon city. Simply put, villains turn up everywhere so a group of villains would travel from the Rogue Isles and set up shop. They would then get missions to perform various acts of criminality and it would be up to the heroes to stop them. You could even have lair / base raiding.

So now we're talking PvP? Or a zone in which Heroes and Villains compete for rights to the zone. In which case, we already have them and roleplaying in them is highly inadvisable. Whereas if we're not talking PvP, then you're suggesting somewhere like another Pocket D, where both sides can go and not fight, in which case, again, we already have one. And it's unlikely that the Devs would develop another similar zone unless it had a gameplay purpose.

Storywise, if it was a non-PvP environment, then I'd ask why aren't the heroes fighting them and chasing them out of the area? If it is PvP, then storywise, we already have somewhere where that's happening e.g. the PvP zones.

Hmmmmm. I was thinking that myself. I think it's the mission part that I wanted to focus on rather then straight PVP.

I was trying to suggest a way in which Villains would group together and a common enemy is alaways a winner.

Perhaps it's not possible for heroes and villains to interact in an RP environment.

There must be some other possibilities for villains to join together. I think if you get away from World Domination then joining together for survival against other villain groups is one possibility.

Other thoughts ?

the idea we came up with in GGOOC chat was a swap meet , a RP blackmarket ..neutral ground run by a "trusted" villian .. like facemaker shops , where villians go to trade stolen goods , find vital parts for dooms day weapons ..or anti bat spray , also where merc type villians sell their skills and Boos type villians hire minions ..

that way any type of villian can have a reason to be there .. no one fights .. and RP can follow ...

Agatha Darke owns one of the boats moored over by the docks and enjoys Chum Island as a peaceful retreat from the 'survival of the fittest' battle that is Mercy Island...

Of course it's also a handy place to deal in rare herbs and strange artefacts, usually prohibited by Arachnos and Longbow, and a great place to gossip and find out things about goings on

...

So I have parked her on Chum Island and await news of just when this is likely to start up. I'm quite happy for this to be a once a month thing at first but I guess it depends on what occurs there and how things develop.

any villian SG with a Mercy TP want to offer safe passage services via base portal to fort darwin ... might get a few new members that way ... just a thought .. would help mid levels get to Mercy a fast and easy way ....

I will have to ask the other members if they mind me opening up my VG. But I don't think it would be a problem to offer the use of the spare spaces in the vg so people can use the teleporters.

So we have a suitable location.

We have had one request of the beginning of the month to set this. Do we have any more suggestions/days people would like? Fridays being the big no no as it clashes with the main GG night
