I can understand your point - as when I did 2nd and 3rd respec trials I certainly didn't need the respecs from them (freespecs and vet rewards ftw!), but had to select that option to get the badges (yes, badge-ho here, if not much of one). I would have preferred to get the badges regardless of the reward I chose, however the badge text are tailored toward the fact that they are granted for gaining a respec, so I can see why things are the way they are.
Basically, if you want a rare recipe from a respec trial, and want the badge... do the trial twice.

I'm not so sure the badge description matters these days - no other character will know if you've taken a respec; and besides - taking one doesn't necessarily mean you're going to use it, so the badge text becomes moot already.

Well, that could easily be worked around with the Vetspecs or freespecs, couldn't it?

According to ParagonWiki, this is what it says about the one I ran last night (2nd Villain one):
"How to Get
To obtain the Thorn Thief accolade, you must complete the second Tree of Thorns Respecification Trial. "
If it's so, I should have been awarded with this Accolade, shouldn't I?

While I agree that the badges should be awarded for completing the challenge of the respec trials (regardless of the reward you choose), the badge text for each (someone with access to ParagonWiki can correct me if I'm wrong - I'm at work, so I can't view the site right now) says something along the lines of 'you have earned the right to adjust your powers'.
Which would be wrong if you didn't select the Respec option on completion of the trial. If the badge text were changed to match the changing realities of the game, then I would accept and be very happy with the badge being awarded merely for completing the trial - perhaps in the suggestions board someone should propose different badges for completing the respec trials but selecting a different reward?

You can pick a recipe after picking the respec option without having to wait the 3 hours

Really? I've always found the Villains respec much easier than the Hero one and I've usually only known one person in the team.

[/ QUOTE ]No you can do any villains Respec in any order, but you get the badges in one order Thorn Robber, Thorn Thief and Thorn Usurper. you can either do 3rd, 2nd and then 1st respec mission or 3 3rd respec and still get the badges/respec.
If you try to do 3 1st respec but are below lvl 33 you will only get 1 respec due to the fact you have not reach level requiments for the next respec.
Hopeful this has made some sences
Seems a bit stupid to get a badge for getting a respec if you don't pick a respec. And frankly with the difficulty of actually getting a trial team together due to everyone and his/her pet fish already having vet or recipe respecs (or inf to buy one) I'd prefer it to be the case that they changed the availability of 'unearned' respecs than change the text on the badges of the earned ones.

[/ QUOTE ]Learnt this the hard way too... Did the 2nd respec a while back on my tanker, as I wanted the badge. Got to the reward window, and went into auto pilot and selected rare recipe. As soon as I clicked, I'd realised I'd made an error and cursed loudly, then to top it off got a rubbish recipe, worth <5k. Did the same trial the next day, and picked the correct reward.

I did it once, also long before Inventions, in a Heroside respec, just simply didn't realize what I had selected until it was too late.
Well, it seems most of you agree with me, it'a a bit of nonsense having so many vet and Issue respecs available it's a pity not being awarded with the badge (no matter what's its name, but the fact getting it or not) even if you don't pick character respecification, but if this is how it works, now I know what to select the next time.

I agree with Defcon that it isn't all that clear, but as the Respec Vill side only takes a quick hour (or less), then repeated attempts are easy to do. Takes a little longer Hero side of course. Happy for another run mate btw, just give me a shout.
And I've never selected a SO as a reward, always recipe or respec.

When I did the first hero respec (The only one I've ever done I might add) I picked the rare recipie because I didn't want to respec.
But i still got the badge, it seems that my poweres are forever fluctuating because of it

I did back in I7 with my fire brute - twice - because back then you got a decent xp/inf bonus if you took the SO and not the respec (not sure if that is still true since I9 and the reward window change) and I was still levelling. In fact I did 2nd villain respec trial 4 times with him - twice I took respec (and got first two badges - still haven't used those respecs, heh), twice I took the SO.
Haven't done a respec trial since, on either side with any character - haven't needed to with the amount of freespecs and vet respecs flying around. I'd like to do the TV reactor trial at least once, but only to experience it.

There's one badge for finishing the trial, and another badge for choosing the respec option. Perhaps you mixed them up?

It doesn't matter what comes affter that sentence - all you need to know is that that line is not logical or acceptable in any way, ever
