Set Bonus

When viewing the powers of another player instead of getting the "War And Peace" version of Set bonuses listing every bonus they have it would be better to see a percentage accumulation.

H-E-double hockey sticks NO!!! Bad enough you can see them, let alone seeing how powerful they are. Next thing you know it'll be "Sorry, you don't have X bonus at Y percentage, won't invite you."

I understand what you mean but most people wont take that line and the few that do....do you really want to play with them anyway?
These people can play with themselves and probably do!

Why don't we not let people check builds at all then?

So wouldn't that be an /unsigned Imoba? Since you don't want the OP idea?

I don't like this idea, showing the full details could be bad for the reasons stated above. However some condensing wouldn't go amiss, so rather than having recovery bonus listed 10 times it would just show once and without a quantifier. That way rather than a 30 or 40 lines of bonuses you'd get something like:

Resistance Bonus
Recovery Bonus
Regeneration Bonus
...

/unsigned.

The day people start refusing people to enter their groups because they can see he hasnt have strong enough enhancements is the day that the farmers will rule this game. I have seen it happening in other MMO's. Lets not make the same mistake here.

By Jove Extremus, yours is even better! I trust you picked up on my "Bad enough you can see them [...]" then?

One of the things I like about this game is that you can see how other people have built their character. It gives you insight in to how it might play and ideas that you might not have thought of.

Adding to that in my opinion is a good thing.

I agree with Extremus. I'd like a far more flexible way to look at someones bonuses. To be honest the current list is a piece of [censored], I don't see why they thought implementing it that way was in any way useful or worthwhile.

So yes to the suggestion, with maybe an Opt Out for all those who don't want to use it.

Aye make it opt in, and have it as a percentage, in fact if it filters out the team/build fascists all the better.

To be frank if you want to check such things you can gather this percentage information from the current system and stack it all up yourself. It'll take time, but I'm sure there are folks who will do it.

As far as I'm concerned the argument for this is greater than against. So what if a few folks will assess you and refuse: whack a note on them to say they're an ignorant fool then go team with someone who's normal.

[/ QUOTE ]You can already see their power choices. For example, you might not want to invite an Arachnos Soldier who didn't take TT: Maneuvers into your team because that's just silly.

Why not show both under different option tabs (e.g. 'War & Peace' and 'Summary' tabs)?

The argument for *not* doing this is a good one on the surface - it risks exclusion by inf spent. On the other hand it strikes me that if someone is ******-retentive enough to filter team mates by Invention Set bonuses it's quite likely they will take the time to work out what player's bonuses are regardless.

How likely is introducing a summarised set of bonuses to change such an individual's behavior? And will this outweigh making the bonus summary display usuable for getting information on late-career toons?

Would be better I think.

I have to agree with BlueRabbit on this - this is rife in other MMOs and I don't want to see it rife here.

Although I have already seen it here on just one occasion. Not long before I12 I logged in my pre-I9 L50 MM (at the time slotted solely with SOs) and was stood at Sharkhead BM, checking prices for the IOs I was planning to buy to re-slot him. Then I get a /tell from a random lowbie saying something like (I don't recall, so I'll paraphrase): "No IOs on a L50? Man you suck!" I ignored him, but it demonstrates to me that at least one "gear-snob" has migrated here.

Imho we're on a slippery slide - lets not push the Devs into making us fall faster. Ok I'm biased, I originally came to CoH to escape the gear/raid-grind mentality I'd tired of in other MMOs. I still hope this MMO can keep its independence and differences from every other MMO in the genre, both in terms of community and features, but I see those differences being eroded with every issue.

Anyway I'm sure the Vault website feature will reveal full details of other players' builds anyway, for those that care (fortunately you can opt out, as I guess most PvPers will at least) - won't that be enough? Or do some of you want absolutely full details of everyones' builds available in-game so that nosy miscreants can not only criticise a player's power picks but their slotting too?

One player out of how many? Is it wise to base a judgement on the actions of one moment with one character out of the countless interactions you've had in CoX? I do not think 'the slippery slope' is a valid argument since technically CoX have already embarked on this path by showing the list of bonuses in the first place.

My first toon (and namesake), Broadsword/Inv Scrapper and lvl 50 for, hmm, over a year now, has only recently started getting IOed up. I've brought him out for ding runs, PuG TFs, and casual carnage on occasion only wielding SOs. Curiously I have never had anyone spouting, "Lol no sets u suxor" when I've been cleaving bads in half.

Alternatively you could say that your view is the pessimistic, where easily summarised information will lead to criticism. My view, not necessarily any more valid, is that the same concise information would tend to lead to comments like, "+19% global damage! Gadzooks!"

Yeah maybe, I am erring on the side of pessimism because I know how bad it is in other MMOs - and because I'm just generally cynical about stuff like this. Oh and also because I don't recall the community being so focused on farming, spam, or being so quick to turn on each other in the forums or on global channels (thinking of UBH and Arena especially) from back when I played I5-I8 before I took a year break from CoH/V (returning in I11). Sure, a lot of things were added in I9-10, but Inventions was the only one that changed the entire fabric of the game - and in my opinion the community too.

You're probably right, but I wanted to explain the source of my pessimism/cynicism. And for the record I love Invention IOs and the extra capability/customisation they've brought to character builds for PvE - but not the implementation of "rares", the extra time I have to spend at the BM/WW, how they've affected PvP, nor the knock-on effects on the CoH/V community and even my own playstyle.
