Right...
This just verifies that they were never been able to replicate the problem as we can always see other players while out of sync.

Actually, it can vary. When this problem first started happening, I had a total desync and was in Atlas Park all alone. No other players, no NPCs, no cars, nada. I didn't even have any chat channels.

The strange part in my case is that it affects any character above lvl 33. 3 of my characters have been affected by the desync bug at this precise level, one of them is a I12 VEAT alt. Only exception is my lvl 50 Tanker which only seems to occassionally desync inside missions. Nothing below 33 is affected

Maybe it affects mostly characters with an aura, although I can confirm that affects characters below level 16 as well...

A new build is on the Training room which include the new /sync command. As a result we would like to ask everyone who is affected by this bug to log on the training room and try the command, then report your results in this thread.

Thank you for your cooperation.

None of my characters have Aura's, I just don't like them. I can see players whilst on a mission map, & be right next to them whilst fighting. I only know I'm out of sync when I go to attack a foe I'm standing next to & it tells me I'm out of Range.

Whilst desync'd I can talk to my friends using any of the channels, everything looks 'normal'. If I travel too far from where I entered the zone though, the npc's will not be where they should be (Trainers, Contacts, etc)

This effects ALL levels of characters. I created a new Tank & entered Tutorial & was immediately out of Sync at lvl 1.

So, none of the 'It only effects...' are correct.

The build currently being tested on the Training Room includes a /sync command that will resync your client to the server as a temporary solution. Investigation into exactly what is causing the desyncs to occur is ongoing.

I was unable to replicate the problem at Training Room although at the same time I have serious problems on live with specific alts only.
I don't know what else to do to help the investigation. Any ideas?

Oooo boy... I just gotta share this.

I just recieved an email from support, last response was in 29th may.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting the PlayNC Customer Support team.

Today's patch has implemented a possible fix for the issue of the 'ghost maps' (character desynchronisation). In order to check this, please log any previously affected character(s) into the game, Type the command /synch and log out of the game. Once you relog your character(s) again, this issue should no longer be present.

If this is not the case, however, please try to use the /synch command when you are experiencing the issue. You may also visit our official forums for any new updates via the following link: http://uk.boards.cityofheroes.com/ubbthreads.php

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we worked to resolve this issue.

Kind regards,

Left the name of the GM out, but read the reply... How clueless can you get?

1: it's not a fix, it's a workaround.
2: it's /sync not /synch
3: logging out and in after typing /sync just bring me out of sync again. This is not how the function works.
4: the issue ain't resolved... i still desync every time i zone.

Kudos for replying after a month, but the information is very faulty :|

Yes, I got that too, but I will hold myself, as GhostRaptor expects, and I won't blame the customer support again. I will blame the network infrastructure people that caused the yesterday's downtime to be longer than expected, thus stressing the customer support team to it's edge... ^_^

See how nice I am?

The information is correct (barring the typo of the command):

1. The /sync command is a workaround. The command wasn't the only change made with this build, however it appears that the hoped-for fix has not worked (based on your point 4).

2. Correct, the command is /sync. I'll be asking if we can have /synch added as an alias as well. Apologies for the confusion.

3. The text you quoted only requests this be done once (upon first logging in and using the /sync command). If the problem persists you should only use the /sync command, as noted in the second paragraph of the email you received. See my response to point 1 above.

4. Thanks for letting us know, we'll pass that information along to NCNC and they will continue investigating the issue.

Once again, please be assured that the /sync command is not seen as being a permanent solution to the desync issue and we will continue to investigate.

Expanding on this slightly, the build on live currently included some code changes intended to address the desync bug. These were in addition to the /sync command, and we're monitoring how effective these changes are.

I have tried it on several chars now and i'm sad to report none are permanently fixed. Each time i log em in, zone etc, i fall out of sync. Those with the most severe condition are the same. Those who fell out of sync half the time or less still do it as well. Not experience any change at the rate it's happening.

Sorry to say it doesn't seem effective, but at least with the /sync command i can now enjoy the game again after a month of being unable to play normally.

The new behavior after the latest patch (the one that the /sync command was added) is to actually detect (wow!) when your character is stuck, just after it leaves a certain radius from the stuck point (i.e. when the player would start noticing that all enemies and doors are missing) and automatically return you back to the stuck position (i.e. where you actually are for everybody else). Actually it behaves like a big rubberbanding.

IT DOES NOT AUTO-ISSUE THE /SYNC COMMAND - IT DOES NOT GET YOU BACK IN SYNC
...you have to do it yourself!
At least it's an easy way to find out that you're out of sync before it is too late.

My character that got used to get out of sync, still experience the problem, in the same amount as before.

As I am still having out of sync problems:<ul type="square">[*]My old petition is still active?[*]Should I petition it again?[*]Silently use /sync command and pretend that the problem isn't there any more?[/list]

A little check box for us with sync problems where the game would automatically do /sync for us each time we zone would be neato. I often forgot to hit my bind key, usually only remember when i get the jerky animation after zone.

They managed to not really use /stuck everyday...
I want to know how to help CS so the same will be with /sync command too.

The game already tries to resync automatically every time you zone, that's the problem! It's not working right for some people! Why do you think they gave you the manual ability in the first place hmm?

Hence why I said above that the code changes that were put in place don't appear to be working as intended...

Please update your existing petition with this information. Definitely don't do the last option, as we do want to provide a more permanent remedy to the problem than the /sync command.

What FFM said.

Actually if they find out why we get out of sync and they eliminate it completely, this extra resync that is done for all players will become redundant and if they remove it altogether, we will stop rubberbanding when exiting a train station! Yay!

Is there any new info on this matter? my 2+ month old ticket to support is still active. And i'm still getting the sync bug on every character. Even brand new ones now, couple of zones they knee deep in sync bug as well.

Same here.
Happens even at morning with the specific character I have the problem ONLY, when almost no soul is online...
It is obviously a bug as it doesn't happen at other alts (that will imply connection problems) but is consistent with the one I petitioned about it.

Possible update, as i've had this recently on just one character... typical it's my main tho...

My comments to support:

I used the /sync, which fixed my movement in the current zone and mission i was about to do, however, i've now zoned again after completion of the mission and it's moving me back to the start of the zone again when i try moving around. i used /sync again and this fixed it again, but it seems this is happening every time i move to another zone. (and has been the same 2 nights in a row now)

The reply:

"Thank you for contacting the PlayNC Customer Support team.

The problem you have reported is a known issue and the development team is already working on an appropriate solution. However, we are going to forward your enquiry to our Quality Assurance (QA) department in order to provide the development team with as much information as possible.

A patch is planned soon (the exact date will be announced on the official forums) to resolve this issue, at the moment the developers have indeed implemented the command /sync to help you to carry on playing without the repeating rubber banding. Unfortunately, at this time, you will need to use this command every time you enter a new zone or enter/exit a mission (or get a loading screen). We apologise for the inconvenience.

Thank you very much for your patience and understanding, as well as your interest in helping to improve City of Heroes/Villains.

Kind regards,

PlayNC Customer Support Team
