Blapper Discussion

Hmmm I'm going to say go for a Fire/Fire Blaster and have a shedload of fun blasting/blapping and doing awesome AoE damage.

One important point though. If you're going to the above ... go out there and befriend a Tanker - preferably a Fire or Ice one.

Also take Aid Self in the 20's. It'll keep you on your feet a lot longer.

Finally ... Fire/Fire blasting/blapping is the most fun you can have - with your clothes on

Fixed for truth

Each prefer their own sets, some dont like the fire animation, others dont like the 'elec beam hits but still it says miss', others dont like AR or sonic (the noise!). Blasting/blapping the best is on the set that suits you most.

was wondering if anyone can help i have a lvl 39m enrg/enrg blaster and once wondering if i could enhance his defence . has anyone ggot any ideas that could help to stop being slapped about so much.

Enhancing defense on a blaster wouldn't really be worth it tbh Dark, it's strength is to be able to deal a tonne of damage (be it in range or melee) and although there are a few powers you could pick to slightly enhance defense, it would be a waste. What I tend to do, is make sure they're dead before they get a chance to hit me

So true.

Best defense you can get with your build (and I know from experience cos Inercia is my level 50 energy / energy blaster) is this:
Power boost + aim + build up + total focus
You will even be able to do /em teabag and finish off any boss before the stun wears off... or you will be able to re-apply the Total Focus...

And be sure to include the Medicine pool in your build. This enhanced my survivability by tons!
You are about to get your epics. I chose Force Mastery. Mostly for concept reasons, being energy/energy, but it happened to bea great epic for me.
If you see the fight going badly for you (lots of damage sustained), you can always
Personal Force Field + Power Boost + Aid Self

Power Boost doubles the healing and thanks to the PFF you are protected and the activation of the Aid Self won't be interrupted.

Or, alternatively, replace Aid other, Aid self, and Personal Force feild with three powers that cause huge AoE damage (and for which you get a far better bang for your buck being a blaster) so you dont get into trouble in the first place, and earn faster xp...

The fun part imho, people calling themself blapper the moment they pick 1 or 2 melee powers from their secondairy, while every secondairy have these powers and basicly is part of the blaster set (read discription on coh page).

[/ QUOTE ]

Indeed, theres no such thing as a Blapper, its a Blaster in Melee.

How can you be a hybrid between a Blaster and a Scrapper if your squishy and within criticals hit relatively the same damage cord? :P

Blappers certainly exist. I have 2 of them, one at level 50 (Fire/Fire) and one at level 38 (Elec/Elec).

Being a Blapper is all about style of play. Yes every Blaster set has melee powers but it depends on what you actually do with them and I suppose how you slot them as well.

An orthodox Blaster, in my experience, will build their character with the powers weighted heavily for ranged attacks. They may have a few melee attacks but will prefer to stay at range away from the mobs as much as possible and only use melee attacks for stragglers and for close quarter defense.

I should point out that there is nothing wrong with orthodox blasting.

A Blapper on the other hand will play very differently.

The Blapper mentality is to fire of a few ranged attacks (AoE ones only in my case) and then choose to enter a mob and chain together several melee attacks - which will be fully slotted.

An example of this on my Fire/Fire Blaster is an attack chain like this;

From range - BU+Aim ... Fireball - Flamebreath (optional)

Enter mob - Firesword Circle ... Combustion ... Firesword ... Blaze/Fireblast (for any runners)

If the mob is particularly tough the Blapper will stay within melee range and continue to use AoE's from point blank range, along with ST powers.

The Blapper may also go after high threat targets, using ST powers (which I do) in the same manner as a Scrapper will.

So there you have it. Being 'squishy' or having no Critical hit capability has nothing to do with it.

It's all about what you choose to do with the available Blaster powers.

Totally agree with you Cobra Man. It is a state of mind, it is a style of play. No need to get pedantic about semantics or AT descriptions. My fire/fire plays exactly as yours does, and my energy/energy very similarly.

Every blaster set?

It's not running away. It's advancing in reverse!

Devices does have a melee power, Taser.

Taser was changed to 20 feet range last december.

I've currently got a level 26 Fire/EM blaster and I am having loads of fun arresting mobs at a stupidly fast rate

But I am also not sure how to be as effective as I can at later levels as it seems the difficulty in taking mobs out increases significantly. Now, from what friends have said, I seem to have a bit of a pvp build so far, which is a pain cos I don't pvp, ah well, anyway long story short. I'll see how I go and hopefully things will be even more uber pwnage once I get Inferno.

Oh and one more thing! I need more end! Even with triple slotted Stamina and Conserve Power, I can still deplete my end bar in about 30 seconds.... any advice on what to do?

[/ QUOTE ]Slot EndRdx in your powers, and a Miracle: +recovery or Numina's Convescalance: +REcovery/+Regen into health, if you can find one of those.

Also, +recov IO set bonuses are helpful, at least when stacked.
