Quote:BearShare? That's very odd, I installed it about two years ago, tried it once, then uninstalled it on the same day. Why is it still showing up? There's nothing in the Add/Remove section of the Control Panel. I've run Spybot recently and everything was clean. I also run CCleaner regularly, and FileShredder just to keep my hard drive clutter-free.This torrent program may be causing some slowdowns? BEARSH~1\MediaBar\Datamngr\DATAMN~1.EX E
BearShare has been an issue with other peoples systems, and I'd sure be careful of adware etc, it might be loading. Run Spybot Search and Destroy, Malwarebytes, and Combofix to check for adware that it may have loaded.
http://www.malwarebytes.org http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html and, http://www.combofix.org/
These programs don't need to be running all the time. Install and update them, then use them one at a time to scan your system. Repeat ever so often. -
I've tweaked the advanced settings and pulled them all down to the bare minimum to see if it made a difference. It wasn't nearly as smooth as it should have been, worryingly. I'm currently downloading a driver that is supposed to increase performance for the GeForce 8 series of cards through the above mentioned website. Hopefully that will do something!

Quote:Once again, solid advice. I checked my NVidia control panel settings and noticed that the graphics were set to "Quality". I changed that to "Performance" straight away and I'm already getting around 10FPS in Atlas Park on Recommended. I know that's not ideal, but it's noticeably better than it was. I'll look into rolling the driver back later on.Looks like your on the latest driver, and latest isn't always best. Have you tried some older drivers? I think the one your using had some issues for some people.
I use guru3d forums to search out driver issues, so you might want to start there. I think the 275.33 drivers were pretty good, and for a newer one, I'm currently on the 295.73 drivers for my GTX 460 in my system with no issues. Do clean installs using a driver cleaner for best results.
Also you might want to use the nvidia control panel to change the "global settings" to prefer maximum performance and see if that helps any.
Thanks. -
Quote:Thanks for the advice. I've uninstalled all traces of AVG and replaced it with Avast. I've also removed several small programs that were simply cluttering up my hard drive. I'll go through my processes and end any that aren't necessary then load up CoH to see if there are any changes. You have quite a few programs running that you might can remove from startup and free up some process memory, and AVGIDSAgent.exe has caused some high cpu usage for some people and might be affecting your system.
I think AVG has gotten a little bloated in the last couple years and some other antivirus might be a better choice if your inclined to change. For free, Avast isn't bad and actually Microsoft Security product isn't to bad either, in regards to protection and cpu cycles.
Try shutting down some processes and see it that helps. The GPU your running is going to be most of your bottleneck, for smooth frame rates it seems.
EDIT: Just finished another BAF trial. Last night my framerate was about 2-3FPS, and it's now 5FPS, so there's a very small increase in performance. I'm not sure what else can be done other than buying new parts/a new computer. -
So I've installed a GPU temperature monitoring program. I checked my GPU's temperature 10 minutes after playing CoH and it tells me that the GPU Core is 66C and the GPU is 48C. I'm assuming that's higher than it should be. Does this mean the problem could be fan-related?
EDIT: After a few minutes of research I've discovered that 50-60C is about right for an idle NVidia card. I'm still dumbfounded. I ran a few more trials today and my framerate seems to be dropping by the day. I was on 2FPS in BAF earlier. It was literally like watching someone's slideshow presentation of CoH. This was on Minimum settings. -

Hi, I normally only visit this board to read threads, but I've finally had enough of wondering what's wrong with my computer.
When I'm playing on Recommended, I often have a relatively smooth experience as long as I'm in Atlas, soloing, or on a small team, yet even then the game is never totally smooth. That changes as soon as I do a large trial or task force. I've been doing BaF a few times lately, and every time I have had to reduce my graphics down to Minimum just to play it. Even so, it still looks like a slideshow, with my framerate in the 2-5 range.
Now, I know my computer isn't a powerhouse, but it's certainly not the slowest and most outdated machine either. I've previously had no problem running Crysis on High, GTA IV on Medium, The Sims 3, Kingdoms of Amalur, Fable 3 (on Low). So I know I am capable of playing modern games on this system.
I'm really not sure what it could be. I've tested my PC on the "Can You Run It" website and it tells me that I have passed 100%, and can play CoH maxed out. Now, I'm not the most technologically advanced guy in the world, so I'm not entirely sure what is required in my thread for somebody to pinpoint the problem. I'll post my system specs here and if any more information is needed, please explain how to do so and I will post that, too. -
All I can say is... GET RAGE!
Without it you're not up-to-par with the damage the rest of the Tankers will be dealing. You won't feel special. -
So far, so good as far as I can see. When you say 'That other res power I can't remember', did you mean Unyielding? Because Unyielding is a decent choice and you will be needing it
Now that you have the three key Invulnerability powers for your level, you might want to think about choosing a Travel Power? Or if you're not so bothered about the Travel power, start the Fitness pool. Get Swift 'OR' Hurdle, then at 14 you can get Health, then at 20 you can get Stamina. Stamina is a much-needed passive power with most Heroes, especially Tanks who have a lot of defensive toggles.
Then again, those passive Invulnerability powers that you skipped, 'Resist Physical Damage', 'Resist Elements', can actually be quite decent when you've slotted them at a higher level. Infact, as far as I can see, you will be wanting to take every single Invulnerability power just to soup up your Tank's survivability.
So you can go for a travel power, open up fitness for Health and Stamina later on, fill in the gaps by taking those passive Invulnerability powers that you thought were skippable, or do whatever. Hope this helped in some way, good luck.

As Psiphon said, I'd drop Kick, you don't really need to use either of the attacks from the Fighting set, they should not make up part of your attack chain. Also I'd slot 1 acc in each attack until you're high enough to get Focused Accuracy. Once you get Focused Accuracy slot it with 3 ToHit enhancements and you will never need accuracy in any attacks again. My Tank has it that way and he pretty much never misses. I've slotted all my attacks with 3 damage and 3 end reduction, but that's just to keep my end up. I suggest 2 damage, 2 end reduction and 2 recharge, but that's just my opinion. Totally up to you. Two powers I'd definitely get rid of are Laser Beam Eyes, which to be honest is a really pathetic power, does very minor energy damage and as a Tank you shouldn't be needing ranged attacks, and Hurl. Although Hurl has a nice fast new animation, I think you could afford to lose it and replace with Hasten. Hasten really is an amazing power. All your powers (Except your tier 9) will be recharging much quicker meaning you will only need three or four decent attacks cycling. Finally, I'd take Taunt instead of Laser Beam Eyes. My Tank respecced out of Taunt and ever since he's been terrible at keeping aggro. I miss Taunt so much and I'm saving up to buy a respec recipe just to respec back to Taunt and a few other essentials. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't go Fire / Fire, my WP / SS Tank was duoing a Farm map with a Fire / Fire Tank, we split the map and did half each. He was dying every few mobs even with Healing Flames, and I didn't die once. My WP / SS Tank used to Farm VERY frequently, using Fire Mastery Epic Pool. Activate Rage + Hasten, fire off Fireball into a mob, run in and taunt them, Hit Foot Stomp, Fireball, Taunt, Footstomp etc. Very effective farming tactic but it took me about 15-20 mins to solo a 6-man farm map, when it would take a Fire / Kin 5-10 mins. I've recently rolled a WP / Fire Tank, not changing from Willpower as it's simply my favourite ever Tanker Primary, the survivability is very under-rated, and Fire has 2 good AoEs, put those together with Build Up and the Fire Mastery Epic and you've got a Farming Tank. So I'd say either WP / SS or WP / Fire for the best Farm tank.

That sounds like a great idea. Do you mean like having a team of players who meet up regularly to level up? Like start off with 8 players, a couple of Blasters, Tanks, Controllers etc all with some connection to psy / mental abilities? If so, that sounds like it could really be a lot of fun.

Level 50 WP / SS. I don't know wheere you've been hiding the last couple of months, but personally I've seen loads of WP Tanks. Mainly in the teens. Willpower has to be my favourite Tanker primary, it's not as 'Look at me all in-your-face with my super flashy toggles' as the other sets, and that's what I like about it. Instead of trying to showoff with bright colours and complicated auras, it just sits back and quietly laughs to itself at the other sets. I really am so proud of my Willpower Tank, he can withstand almost anything. Last night I was trying to solo Battle Maiden, and although my damage output wasn't enough, she was barely even scratching me, and even when she did it was such a small amount of damage that my regen was left ridiculing her. Sorry to go off-topic, I just want people to finally see how great Willpower is. Sure, it's Tier 9 isn't as powerful as the others. Sure, it doesn't have just one focused strength. But Willpower really makes up for it, and when properly slotted you will be able to keep up with and even outshine other Tanks with ease.

Hey, I've never actually done Hami before. Count me in with my 50 WP / SS Tank if that's possible?
-
I'm up for it with my 35 Fire / Kin ? Got nothing better to do and I haven't levelled her in weeks.
-
Hey, I tried to get a team for that TF yesterday but failed miserably.
I don't have teamspeak but my main is Josh, level 50 Willpower / Super Strength Tank.
Any chance I could join you? -
Hey, I recently used my 9 months Vet respec on my level 25 Grav / Kin Controller Josh. I got rid of fly and a few other powers for Superspeed and the invisibility pool. Basically I ruined the toon, so I'm going to try and get a team for tomorrow to do the Terra Volta TF and get the respec to change the toon back to normal. Anyone of any AT and level (25-50) can join. The more we can get together, the better our chances are of doing this TF. So if you've got all day tomorrow to splash out on City of Heroes and you'd like to come and do the TF for exp, inf, badges, whatever, your help would be much appreciated. Get back to me soon

Wow I teamed with you a bit on my Scrapper Darksteel, hehe glad you had fun!
