Hi, I have only made one tank before (ice/ice) and kept running out of end so he hasn't got past lvl 14. I have made a /WP scrapper and got it to the mid 20's, I liked it so much I decided to make a WP/SS tanker. Could you guys and gals give me some advice. I have been playing around in Mids for a few hours working out a build. I havent put any slotting in yet because im not sure what would work best

Looks good. There are a few things I'd change (power order mostly, but dont have time to think about that right now >.&lt. The only power I'd change is hurl, you'll want rage instead unless it's a concept thing.

For starters you don't need Mind Over Body so early. High Pain Tolerance gives you plenty of resistance for the early stages and Rise to the Challenge combined with Fast Healing will form the cornerstone of your protection. I didn't take Mind Over Body until after I got Stamina in the late 20s and it's absence wasn't noticable.
Indomitable Will is your status protection take it as early as you can get it. (Level6)
Haymaker is a nice attack to have early, I took it in preference to Punch.
Knockout Blow is a gem of an attack, take it as soon as you can. It doubles up as your "big hitter" and target detoggler.
Where's Rage? It's the power that gives SS its SMASH! Take it at 28 and love it for the raw power it gives you.

I took Hurl at 35 and it's a handy power to have. With the new fast animation time and respectable damage it really does a good job. For my WP/SS it fills the roll of a general purpose attack and soft control. Also, throwing big rocks is fun! YMMV

[Edit]Here's the power pick order I took to 38. My WP/SS is 42 at the moment and I've taken the Earth Mastery for thematic reasons.

Level 1: High Pain Tolerance -- Empty(A)
Level 1: Jab -- Empty(A)
Level 2: Fast Healing -- Empty(A)
Level 4: Haymaker-- Empty(A)
Level 6: Indomitable Will -- Empty(A)
Level 8: Rise to the Challenge -- Empty(A)
Level 10: Combat Jumping -- Empty(A)
Level 12: Quick Recovery -- Empty(A)
Level 14: Super Jump -- Empty(A)
Level 16: Swift -- Empty(A)
Level 18: Heightened Senses -- Empty(A)
Level 20: Knockout Blow -- Empty(A)
Level 22: Health -- Empty(A)
Level 24: Stamina -- Empty(A)
Level 26: Taunt -- Empty(A)
Level 28: Rage -- Empty(A)
Level 30: Mind Over Body -- Empty(A)
Level 32: Strength of Will -- Empty(A)
Level 35: Hurl -- Empty(A)
Level 38: Foot Stomp -- Empty(A)

All I can say is... GET RAGE!

Without it you're not up-to-par with the damage the rest of the Tankers will be dealing. You won't feel special.

Thanks for the input guys. I have re-arranged my build to look like Steampunks. Do you think it would be worth swapping taunt with mind over body or did you find you didnt need it till that late on in your build? I haven't gone for the epic pool for thematic reasons instead I have taken the fighting pool. Do you think these picks would be ok or should I try and fit aid self in somewhere?

I can say same thing for Fast Healing which i still don't have both on my WP/Stone (lvl 21) and WP/SS (lvl 28). They do pretty good.

So i think that makes High Pain Tolerance, IW and RttC more critical powers which should be get asap.

@OP

Nice build. Have fun with your new tanker. WP is a fun set to play.

You could swap them. I found having Taunt to be more useful than Mind Over Body at 26. The taunt effect of Rise To The Challenge doesn't seem to be quite as potent when compared to other Tank auras, and punchvoking only goes so far.

I am completely lost on the rush with fitness pool.

Hmmm Shannon is right. With End light set like SS you can get Stamina later in your build.

Honestly i wish that can be true for my WP/Stone one. With DO's and End Rdx's on 2 attacks i was still having End issues so i forced to take Stamina on level 22 instead of HS or another attack.

The fact is that with the planned power picks you have you will be an underpowered scranker until L28, and actually may be able to tank from L31

You will have very little damage mitigation without Mind Over Body, which will mean the incoming damage is likely to overpower your regen. Taking your toggles is important, even if you don't/can't run them all of the time. the power which is most easily delayed in the WP set is Fast Healing, I have taken it in the 40s on both of my WP tanks.

It really depends on what you want to do but if you want to actually be a tank for teams then you need to be able to survive, the fighting pool would therefore become more important than the fitness pool, which is just there to let you attack (with all of those underpowered attacks pre Rage)

If you are going to solo, or not try to hold aggro teams then your build should work fine.

I suppose you could take Fighting instead of Fitness, take Taunt earlier and just be a tauntbot for teams in the early levels.
You'll be leaning on a team to do all the damage because even after you get Rage you'll lack the attacks to put together a respectable attack chain. And forget soloing at any useful pace during the quiet hours.

Maybe it's my scrapper background but I'd rather be able to do some damage and have a modicum of independence in the early levels than asthmatise myself for a few extra % in S/L resistance.

My WP/SS, using the picks I posted above, has tanked for TFs with little difficulty. Little short of Antimatters' "I stop your Regen" attack has really threatened her so far. "This might hurt a bit" moments have largely been smoothed over buy Insps, team support and/or Strength of Will.
Your mileage may vary, mine is blitzing along.

Allegedly *cough* you can earn more xp/time in teams.

I think Mind over Body can be taken earlier and taunt can be taken earlier should you want it, with fitness pushed back later. What you do have is QR which is better than stamina so already as far as end concerns are, your better off than Inv/SS, they tend to go stamina and conserve energy with fight pool and until you do footstomp, your xp/time is better of coming from teams. So I would consider fight pool before fitness pool, mainly because of willpower and burst damage (although often avoidable) its just a case of finding end slots for attacks and then once I have stamina, swap the excess end slots for something like recharge.

As my firetank swamped in CoT my last chance tohit went right down to 7.5% which is a crisis really, thats some swamping. Stick me on quicksand and thats some slowing added. Range and Autohit beats having to travel and all that debuffing. I can more likely save someone with taunt and if thats not enough of a good reason to take taunt, then its to have saved someone so that they are able to do more things to the enemy and/or keep me standing just so I can make more xp/time etc

The argument of to take taunt or to not take taunt has been done with too long, too much info is on the boards, not all but enough info. If someone don't like somebodies tanking then they only have to meet another tank, some people of certain powersets may actually prefer tauntless tanks some not, but in terms of flexibility, without it, your lacking.

If you look at the build posted it has just 2 attacks for the lower levels, Jab and Haymaker, the Fighting pool would actually ADD an attack at around the same level of effectiveness (due to Jab and Haymaker being such poor attacks) even with KO Blow there is no further attack added until much later. Stamina and Quick Recovery in order to use 3 attacks is somewhat excessive.

Thanks for all the input has made me think about my build alot more. I have changed some of the powers around and not taken the fitness pool til alot later. Do you think I will need these or do you think it might be worth me gettin medicine or another pool maybe? anyway here is my latest build. I have got to lvl 6 but havent chosen the power yet.
