Thanks, not quite sure how I missed those builds to be honest... All the maths and data chunks on the first few pages must've thrown me off.
Thanks again,
You may now go about your business, nothing to see here people! Off you go! -
Hi all, Pipe here! Long time no log. I've just gotten back into the game after a 12 month absence and am looking for a decent PVE Kat/Regen build as shown in the thread title. I'm following that old build by Umbral I believe designed for issue 12 or 13 I think,

Apparently the ability to solo 4 AV's is no longer cutting edge and I wondered what advice you would give someone just returning and having only the alpha slot unlocked so far for incarnate content.
Please note, this data bundle is just copied from another thread as I have a mac now and cannot download Mid's.
Budget is no problem as this is a long term toon and I'm quite happy to do TF's over and over to get my lucky purple drops. So recommend away.
So, once more, looking to do TF's, Incarnate content and solo/teaming. Absolutely zero interest in PVP, so if you feel a PVPIO is the way to go, please offer some tips on other ways to get them.
Thanks,
Pipe -
Hi, I'm Pipe_42 and although I have never done anything like Arcanatime and such, I'm very much into the Scrapper mindset, so hello one and all and see you on the streets.
-
'Twas indeed an entertaining event. The Master/Mistress of the Airwaves badge proved to be a couple of peoples undoing. Even mine almost, and I was marshalling!
Honourable mention goes to Hot Sound for me though, she'd fair pelted up one of the web cables and was a shoe-in for 1st place, a small miscalculation on the jump however saw her plummet unceremoniously all the way back to the bottom. Highly entertaining, though I do sympathise.
Well done all who took part! -
[ QUOTE ]
It allowed for up to 32 players at the same time and was horribly, horribly borked. It's still being fixed AFAIK.
[/ QUOTE ]
From what I understand of this is that it was borked for two reasons. The first was some kind of exploit where a mob you faced gave almost a levels worth of exp in one kill, so people were farming themselves to 50 in about a day without DXP
Secondly, this was a SG trial and when it was started, whether you were in the event or not, you couldn't do any other missions until it was finished.
As a whole though, this suggestion gets a big /signed from me. I have no idea about coding but surely the SG wouldn't be an issue as it's done like a normal TF. They'd just need to work out how to code multiple teams to one instance for the last fight. -
Y'know, I don't know why I still read these threads
The answers always the same.
Maybe it's just to see if there are any choice insults thrown in there that I can copy down for personal use laterThough pretty much everyone here is far above that unless it's been a particularly bad day.
On topic though, look at it this way. A level cap increase is technically possible, looking at other games, but there's no justifiable storyline reason to do so. At level 45-50 you are already saving the planet/metaverse from the most dangerous threats out there. See A Hero's Hero arc and the RWZ for example. That to just suddenly bump on 10 or even 20 levels of stuff saying, "Yeah, good job, but look at THIS as an even more evil and diabolical plot by an even more dangerous bad guy than anything mentioned up to this point in the whole game."
So yeah, it could be done, but without massive amounts of work and rewrites of the whole game would just be an add on that no one has ever heard of. Unless of course those particular arcs I mentioned get moved to the new level cap, in which case all the existing 50's are probably gonna have to do those arcs all over again... -
[ QUOTE ]
A good way to do checkpoints are certain badges needing to be collected. Make sure any toon entered has no exploration badges to begin with and then check the winner to make sure they have them all.
[/ QUOTE ]
This! Level 1 toons having to pick up certain badges, maybe a marshall there to help guide people who don't know where they are, but I like this idea. -
The problem is always going to be making sure people don't cheat "too much". Instead how's about making the race slightly longer, but with specific checkpoints that you must cross. How you get there is up to you then.
For example, having two checkpoints at the north and south end of a zone would help because if people were to use SG teleporter's, they'd still have to hoof it to the other side of the map as well.
But I'm still in for marshalling this if you need the volunteers. PC working again, so should be no trouble to help out. Also, has this been advertised anywhere other than the forums? Not everybody reads em, and a Global MOTD on the more popular chat channels, or even an official one on Union would be a big help. -
Also the set will be incompatible with some other sets as it will be held in the left hand. So it won't be usable with sets like Katana, Claws and Dual Blades. So most of the animations that'd look odd are already done away with.
I really believe that it's a set designed for use with weapons though. Having Firey Melee and a shield just feels a little weird to me, so unless it looks natural. I'm just gonna stick to using it with weapon sets. Here's hoping that tanks and brutes get broadswords too. -
All sounds "interesting" I suppose.
I would have to insist that the dinosaurs be given Fez's and Frickin' Lasers too though or it'd just be unsporting...
Big two thumbs up from me anyway! -
I'm at work till half five and haven't updated my test server since I10 I think, so might take a while. But I'll try and get there asap.
Spread the word!
Also of note, who's bringing the cake? -
[ QUOTE ]
There's a badge for landing on his head too
[/ QUOTE ]
Usually followed by a rare opportunity to get some more towards those ever elusive debt badges! -
Without reading the whole thread, because I'm feeling particularly lazy tonight.
The way I see it is Auto-Sidekicking isn't a terrible idea. In fact, I can see situations where it'd be a damn sight more useful than what we currently have. Provided it wasn't used to just powerlevel 7 toons at once rather than the 4 or so people do now. How often does that happen though eh?
All in all though, I do think that our current system is better as it fits the whole premise of a sidekick. Someone showing the ropes to a new player. Though I would prefer it if the maximum range was increased slightly. Them boxes can really crowd up a screen if you're all moving about mid battle. -
There's been a bit of discussion about this 5-6 missions thing, and in my opinion I belive that while that may be the maximum you can have on the live game servers at one time. Surely you'll be able to remove them as well. And don't forget that they probably mean 5-6 arcs rather than just individual missons.

Needs more debuffs. And one of the toggles should have a 20' radius mag3 hold.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why settle for anything less than Mag 100? Ghost Widow gets away with it, and she's a cheating villain. Parity for heroes!
That and all PBAoE's have a damage tick similar to Burn with the Brute damage cap applied. I can't really see a problem with this set. Seems like a fair-well balanced set to me. -
[ QUOTE ]
Get someone to do a mayhem mission, or rather the hero version, and get a jet pack, no point REALLY suffering with just sprint
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't forget, you have to be level 5 to be eligible for the reward from a safeguard mission. Might want to wait for that 30 day booster rocket pack if that's what you're thinking. -
For extra masochism, you could also do what another forum member did and try to do it 1-50 without dying. If the toon is killed at any point, it's deleted and re-rolled.
If you are mad enough to go for that, keep us all updated. If you ever ding 50, we'll be dead impressed and then move onto discussing the issue 47 announcement
Good luck though and have fun. -
A few thoughts. My main is a natural hero who uses a Katana and has become skilled enough at it not to have to split people in two every time he swings it. Rather he attempts disarms and incapacitation. His superpowers come from his secondary I feel. Otherwise he'd be a normal bloke.
Moving onto the good stuff, the mission creator I at first thought, ah that'll be nteresting but it had no major appeal for me. Then last night I was awake half the night planning out an arc...I'm very tired this morning as I got nowhere near enough sleep for me and I demand immediate compensation
All the other stuff so far looks pretty good too. I might not use all of it, but it's certainly adding things to the game.
The only sore point is the 30 day rocket power. I really do think it should be a permanant power. Paying £4.99 every month extra because you decide not to take an official travel power strikes me as odd. I know nobody is forcing us to, and if you've got money to burn go for it. But a better idea in my opinon would be that if you bought it, you got the pack for 30 days as normal. Then that unlocked the jetpack as a usable costume piece for your account. -
I'm gonna hop in again on this one. Speaking from personal experience, I am sure that there are people who do this just for the recipie. No doubt about it.
But my SG runs many TF's just because it keeps us closely knit as a group and we have a goal. We usually have all 8 people on any TF we do. Eden, 2nd Respec (that's fun when there are about 40 freak tanks in the last room before the reactor), STF, Synapse, etc. because this is what we happen to enjoy. Having worked together this much we know how far we can push each other as players no matter what toon we are on. We have one player who has a dark/dark defender who can shatter the aggro cap somehow, and drags most of a map back to us. It can become pretty hairy, but the Teamspeak channel is full of banter and chat because this is how we have fun..
In fact for a little while once we went into the hive as a group and starting defeating GM's to see if we could spawn Hami for no other reason than to have fun and get ourselves killed. 2 hours we were there and nothing, he was obviously terrified
Long story short, although some people are abusing this, they're missing out because they are looking at it as a job: "Not a stone tank? Sorry you're not coming in."
A well put together team of almost any setup can get through this, we've done it with WP tanks, Fire tanks (who are our tank of choice for the job) Rad defenders, no defenders, FF defenders, no blasters etc. Anything.
Though the time we tried it with three tanks and a blaster didn't finish as we couldn't kill the mold wall. It was fun! And I think that's what these farmers are missing out on.
Besides, you nerf the hell out of the Eden Trial and the farmers will move on to something else leaving another devestated mission in their wake, and it won't be long until people start complaining about this new mission. At least we know where they are for now.
Again, the only way we do this is a well put together group of players who know what they are doing working together, and maybe one or two others if we can't find all of our "A-team". First time I did it I was on a PUG that insisted on clearing pretty much everything before moving on. It took 3 and a half hours and was duller than dishwater.
Thanks for reading,

My SG run this regular, and the key to this is having a team that can deal with the AV's. That's it. If you ignore as many mobs as possible and just gun down the GM's this TF has that one hunt. Where everything can be much lower than you, then you've got half a dozen enemies you have to focus on. We've taken down the Crystal Titan in less time than it takes for one ambrosia to wear off. We use a good tank, and a Rad/Sonic defender and then a ton of damage.
Considering that other trials can be run just as quickly, I don't feel that picking your fights and moving as a team can be considered an exploit. In fact, it's become something of a challenge to see how fast we can do it -
I also have a quick question, what is this foolproof method for Eden?
I only ask out of professional curiosity as our SG regards the Crystal Titan as an amusing pet and can clear the whole thing, first hunt, Ambro grabbing and pwnage in 20 minutes. With no special powers/outside buffs apart from what we bring to the team.
Though it's been a while since we did it in all honesty. -
The only ones my main a Kat/Regen scrapper had major trouble with were Silver Mantis who just DoT'd me to death. She was appaling and I failed a timed mission because of her.
The other one I had real problems with was Automoton Positron who debuffed me like mad, died a good few times but being a scrapper I kept pounding him, and evetually took him down. Then his mate in the same mission was a cakewalk, and I made him suffer mightly for slowing me down... -
Holy Matrixiness Myopic!
Did you just happen to have that lot memorised? Or were you watching the film when this came up?!
Awesome stuff and more than a few funny looks at work to thank for it. -
I'd absolutely love to help out with this. The prizes sound awesome and it's tempting to join up for the race. But I'll bite the bullet and offer my assistance as a marshall.
Don't have a 50 villain yet, but these are all low level zones so seems reasonable.
In game handle in my sig, but I'm having a small problem getting online atm. Should be sorted soon, but feel free to PM me in the meantime. -
What's wrong with Carebears? They're cute!
Anyway, I don't do much PvP in game for two reasons. First, I don't have the time or the patience to go for a PvP build. Not saying super rare IO's, just a build designed for PvP. I'll stick to my Kat/Regen who has never taken Divine Avalanche, and just continue blatting mobs PvE, and occasionally scaring off people who just go for quick kills where possible. Though I fully understand someone who knows what they are doing will eat me alive
On the other hand, I have done some team based zonal PvP, only about 3 on 3 but it was a lot of fun even though I can't really steer at speed and tend to crash into walls. Was good fun, as I did it with a couple of SG friends and some people in the zone who just happened to be there and teamed against us. I would like to point out though, that nothing gets me to leave a zone faster than to hear some idiot mouthing off about how uber they are in a serious fashion. Whether they killed me or someone else.
Secondly, if I'm really after player skill based PvP, I usually go play Star Wars Battlefront (yes, I know) Pure, unadulterated nerdiness, with the added benefit of being teeming with bots/people and if I play with my friends on opposite teams, it'll go down to the wire. Because no one really has an advantage over the other in terms of weaponry, just skill.I just want them to bring back the Rhen Var Ice Caverns map, and buff destroyer droids back up. It used to take three or four shots from a tank to kill em, and taking one down with a rifle was awesome! Now I use a pistol and just leave a bloody paste on the walls. Tsk.
Anyhow, carry on people!
