It originated as a term for when multiple people gang up on one but some people like to say they were ganked even when only one person attacked them.

Majority of time people dont know what they are talking about. They like to find a reason for there failure etc. For example had a team of 3 vs a team of 4 and we were the gankers ... go figure.
Anyway I have always seen it as anything more then 1. Thus a 2 on 1 is ganking but I wouldnt class it as pure gankage

Don't listen to Max, he ganks me all the time.
From my experience, its got nothing to do with numbers. It could be you on your own, or with 20 people. When people cant except their death, they will cry ganker.

And it only applies to PvP - for example, the Hamidon can't complain if Heroes prefer to attack it in teams rather than duel it

Me, Weasel and another MM, I'm on my stalker, bouncing around the map, SW on his MM, both the MMs in bubble generator, pets and debuffs in the bubbles.
Scrapper jumps into the "Deathstar" of the MMs, and then claims being "ganked, totally ganked"... ¬_¬

Everytime GG posts a smiley, she ganks me.
To cry "gank" is sually a sign that the person needs to take a few minutes away from the computer and chillout a bit, Ive seen perfectly rational people suddenly turn into " gank victims" even though the situation in the zone has not changed and the dynamics are fairly equal.
Hel I've been accused of ganking...But I put that down to my "victory by attrition" tactic.. If I get killed several hundred times, then they get complacent..or Get RSI and cant use the mouse/keyboard properly

I generally use the term as the MMO equivelant of Pwning...
its funnier, slightly more polite and always gets a "lol" when shouting "GANK THEM! GANK THEM ALL!" when attacking large mobs with a full team of 8

Ganking - one way of putting a death you had no control over. Or sticking around till all the enemies jump on you.
I was told I ganked someone the other day even throu I was by myself :S
I was like there was one of me hows that ganking :S
Heres my problem How many ppl does it take to be considered a ganking?
