Name calling in PvP zones
[ QUOTE ]
Sure there is petitioning but that does not feel right in the end (a bit of an overreaction usually and then what should a GM do about it anyway) though I've done it in more extreme cases.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, it's been proven not all that long ago that a GM will do something about it. There were 3 day bans handed out. I'm not sure if the details are still here, but basically someone repeatedly swore over broadcast.
End result, the aforementioned 3 day ban.

Yeah but that happend in Atlas park I think. And turning off Broadcast helps but you then just get that feeling there talking about you behind your back.
No. It was in one of the PvP zones that I'm thinking of. I'm sure it was posted on the 1AT forums. (Which I can't access at work, but if you ask Blind or Cappy, they should be able to tell you).

hehe true but if your being abused or some [censored] is gobbing off, its either that or leave the zone..if you leave they have won without even fighting you.
I usually send about 5 petitions a wekk on average for swearing in the pvp zones. If someone is abusive to me I just wait for them to swear and petition them. A mob tp may or may not hasten this process.

As a general rule of thumb, if something bothers you, /petition about it. Especially when it's clearly a violation of the EULA (which swearing, abuse and spamming all are).
The GMs have several options open to them, depending on the situation and the results of their investigation.

Please don't attempt to bait people in order to /petition them. Our GMs look out for this kind of thing when they investigate /petitions.
Bridger where is the line drawn when someone intentionally gives you debt in a PvP Zone ?
Is it considered if you enter a PvP zone you should be prepared for anything that happens in the zone including debt ?
is it in a pvp zone anything goes?

And how exactly is baiting people into swearing helping anyone?
I was in sirens a few nights back when someone threatened to petition you for griefing for this exact reason, yet you went on for hours about speculative proof and that your intentions could not be proven.
A little more thought in your actions would be more appreciated than a petition.

If it is allowed in the zones and is not in breach of the EULA, I fail to see how it is baiting.
If that were true, then surely killing anyone by any means in the zone could be considered baiting if it upsets them.
And can we finally have something from a red name about whetehr mob tp is allowed? Assuming its not excessive and assuming its not done to grief can someone finally have the courage to stand up and say whether it is allowed or not? I am sick of explaining my point in broadcast.
Is it the fear of saying that something so unpopular is allowed that is holding a red name back? Has no one got the courgae to say it in an official post?
Or is the excuse well, it depends on the circumstances going to be used again? If so, here are the circumsatnces. Villain enters zone. Hero enters zone. They both fly to hotspot. Villain tp's hero to the arachnos mob next to him. Villain holds hero with a web grenade. Arachnos hit hero until hero is dead!
Is that a breach of the EULA please?
Thankyou!
If its not a breach of the EULA, then talking about it on here cannot be considered baiting. Just because a topic is a bit touchy with people, does not mean its baiting. Some people are touchy about others usings insps to beat other players. Doesn't mean they are right to be and doesn't mean anyone who talks about using insps is baiting.
And no, I don't mob tp to get people to swear. If you think that is what I said, please read it again.
Basically, I get a load of flak because no one from an official side will stand up and be counted when it comes to this issue because they are afraid to express a view that is unpopular.

I believe the circumstances "excuse" as you call it is to give the devs more flexibility. Its easy to innocently pin someone down and accidently get them debt. Then there are other people who constantly mob tp and debt on purpose, then gloat about it over broadcast and the forums to push people into making a mistake. If the devs had a zero tolerance policy on mob tp'ing, then the innocent people would get caught up in it as well as the griefers and baiters.

Insultive name calling, swearing etc. petition them, simple as.
I have a canny knack of dissecting someone's argument/attitude over Broadcast without swearing or insults to quell such behavior. On occasion fellow genuine pvp'ers back this up or laugh (with, I might add! ). The more the n00bs hark on, the more ammunition I'm given to correct their attitude.
Although somedays, I can't be bothered to debate the case and hunt them incessantly without a word... depends how heroic I feel on the day
I'm quite laid back and somewhat tolerant, a warning will be given or friendly advice, if it continues, /petition is sent post haste. Simple.

This is what PvP Zones has brought to the game. Peoples Egos. People dont like losing so they get upset and start shouting and moaning giving excuses. I simple follow something someone else said and that is
DONT SAY ANYTHING IN A PVP ZONE!
This solves most problems and if someone is shouting at you they get more annoyed that you aint responding.

This is true to a point, but i've had some thoroughly enjoyable experiences in pvp which by far outweigh the days you find the idiots and bad losers.

Its more the newer players to PvP that dont understand that if you lose its not the end. You get better and return you have learnt more. You learn losing than you do winning. its the nature of the beast you gonna fail to begin with as there's plenty of people that know how to PvP.
With time you can learn and develope. Its just like learning to walk you dont just stop cos you have fallen over you get back up and try again. Just dont take it so personally. At the end of the day its just a game.

Within the EULA, yes.
Just TPing someone into critters isn't against the EULA. Harrassment, abusive or innappropriate language and so on are.

and therein is the whole point, harrassment, abusive or innappropriate language is against the EULA and is entirely subjective to whoever is making judgements on it. It doesnt matter in the slightest whether you think you were guilty or not, if the GM reveiwing the incident does thats all that matters and there is nothing you can do about it.
The pvp zones are not a lawless land where anything goes and we are actually fortunate that the GMs DO act on the petitions that are sent.
As far as I can tell the vast majority go to the pvp zones to ahve fun, so we should all be having fun, pvping and not acting like a [censored] imho

@Sweet Chilli
This thread is why I don't do PvP.
Couple of things grabbed my attention straight away. Firstly bobthedemon said "When someone is abusive to me I wait until they swear then I petition them". He didn't say, "I provoke people so that they swear at me, then I petition them".
Secondly, how is TPing into a mob in a PvP zone classed as griefing? Using mobs to attack other players in a PvE zone is an entirely different matter. You go into a PvP zone, you will get attacked. It's really as simple as that. Or are we going to get into that ridiculous "honour" argument again?

You have, however, gloated and boasted about TPing people into mobs.
As debt will be a direct consequence of this, it's perhaps an easy mistake for someone to make.

Hence my post asking people not to attempt to bait people into breaking the EULA so that they can be /petitioned.
Recently I've noticed quite an increase in bad behaviour in the PvP zones - swear words, spam in broadcast, insults, etc. I wonder has anyone else has made similar experiences?
Maybe it's no real change and I just feel that way after moving more and more to the later PvP zones (especially Recluse's Victory where at times you get insulted more often than not for actually attacking anyone who fights pillboxes).
I'm not really sure what can be done about this all. Calling out and telling people to keep it civil doesn't change too much and putting almost the whole zone on ignore hardly is a real solution either (only so much space in the list anyway). Sure there is petitioning but that does not feel right in the end (a bit of an overreaction usually and then what should a GM do about it anyway) though I've done it in more extreme cases.
I know this all probably sounds like a random rant but I feel that the community in CoV/CoH always was one of the strong points of the game so I'd really like to try abd improve the sitation if that is possible. Also I'm pretty sure all this keeps people away from the zones - which is a shame really.
Maybe there is something we as players can do about it. Any suggestions?
(Oh and not really related too much to the topic: I'm not playing in the arena but I wonder if people react the same way in there?)
