A good use for Rain of Fire

I know most experienced players don't rate RoF much when you are involved with a team but I think I have found a use for it with my lvl 12 dude.

When we start taking down a mob, if another one nearby starts taking an interest and we look like getting swamped I use RoF on the second mob to disperse them and keep em away from the main fight.

I admit to still being a novice player so would appreiate some "expert" advice on the viability of this tactic.

One other use for it is as a melee sheild. Cast it on your location and it keeps baseball bats away from your face.

Fire/Devices Blaster, Ringed a mob with trip mines with cloaking device and then cast RoF on them causing them to disperse outwards stright in to the mines, funny stuff.

VEINS did similar by scattering Caltrops then RoF over them.

This does work, but it only buys you a few seconds grace. And it annoys them no end it'll grab you all the aggro. So once they're out of the Rain they'll probably be gunning for you.

But using it point-blank to avoid melee is a good move if you're in trouble. Melee tends to hit harder, especially with Trolls and the like.

In teams if there's a Controller with you set up an AOE immobilise/hold -> Rain of Fire combo, works brilliantly. With my Fire/Rad I'd enormous fun doing Flashfire & Fire Cages and a Fire Blaster RoFing them before. He loved it too. Decent damage there if you can keep them from escaping.

Nothing worse than a bad use of it scattering a mob to the four winds though. One of the quickest ways to make a fight messy and difficult (rogue Tornado being the #1)

Thanks all for the advice.

I agree that using RoF on a mob that your tanker has nicely herded is just asking for trouble.

Re drawing the agro on myself, when I use the power as described, by the time the 2nd mob is coming for me the team has monstered the 1st one and is ready to cover my back so no probs there ...so far.

Also, last night was teamed with a player who also had RoF. Doublw whammy of both of them at once was dropping lvl10 mobs like bowling pins. greatfun!

Rain of Fire FTW seriously this is a great power when applied the right way.. This is what i use it for

I charge into a agro controlled mob as im running in use Aim and Build up, i get to the middle of the mob launch RoF the without hesitation kick off Inferno

Anyone that survives inferno is normally so weak RoF takes them out

I used RoF and Fireball quite effectively only yesterday with an L12 toon against Frostfire - pulled the vast bulk of Frosties goons out of the last room, AoE'd them into a frenzy and led them on a Benny Hill style chase around the corridoor (admittedly pretty scary, but hey, me blaster, debt is my friend, right?)

Whilst most of his minions were otherwise occupied, the rest of the team jumped into the main room and beat the outcasts leader into a greasy spot on the floor. Worked out pretty good, only one faceplant, and pretty darned funny to boot.

Has anyone tried this with a fire/ice blaster?

I wonder if the combination of Chilling Embrace and Ice Slick might make the Good 'ol RoF rather more appealing?

RoF is also a superb runaway power. As you are doing a benny hill. Drop RoF in the hall infront of you then run though it. The enemies will run into it but not through it. However they will stay aggroed to you. But since you are still runing they can't do you any damage

This is how bushbaby's fire blaster and my ice troller work. Ice slick goes down, followed by RoF. This keeps their attention off ourselves and I can also use group immobilise to do this as well, as long as we're out of line of sight.

It's a great combo. I can't wait to add glue arrow to the mix as well

Such a cool tactic potentially doable with so many other types of blasters too, ring a mob with mines launch in an aoe right into the middle of them and watch them knockback into the mines.

Don't forget the classica comba with a ROF and Tar Patch.
Drop TP in the center of the mob and follow up with ROF. Not only does Tar patch slow the foes down so they can't get away but it also debuffs their defence so ROF does even more insane damage. Makes for great fun for the blaster and defender thought the rest of the team tends to get bored since it doesn't leave them very much to do.

CoV have it even better. There a corr can take both ROF and Tar Patch in one build. Ouchie!
