Given name: Jessica van Steenbergen
Hero:The Grav Mistress
Gender: Female
Date of Birth: 22-11-1980
Powers: Magical and Kheldian
Description of Powers: Mage with an afinity for gravity manipulations, forcefields, minor illusions and fire, also considered an expert on souls. Mostly self taught, though some things came natural.
Personality: Silent, thoughtful and somewhat maternal.
Physical Description: Attractive young woman with tourquaze skin and strawblond hair (originally 'pink' skin, red/orange hair), usually wearing glasses, about 6foot tall
History/Backstory:
Jessica had a 'normal' life as a child with her parents and brother in The Netherlands. Though being obese and somewhat shy turned her into a bookworm that was occasionally picked on.
Completely out of character for her, she applied for a student foreign exchange program and went to Paragon City at the age of 16.
In her first year she 'stumbled' across a book that held her initiation into magic: her family tree book.
She taught herself magic, and as she learned, she started to notice her body gradually changing. Her build became athlethic, her skin and hair colours changed. Using illusions, she quickly learned how to cover these up and continue a 'normal' highschool life.
Then the Rikti invasion happened. And she was but one of thousends that were evacuated from Paragon City. She more or less volunteered to help out as a research assistant for MAGI, though never worked on anything vital during that time.
After the war, she returned to her small appartment in Kings Row that had been hers for only a few months before the war. To afford the rent she now took a fulltime job at Hotel Geneva, hiding once again her true colours.
One evening she was walking home she was beset by 3 Circle of Thorns minions. For the first time, she had to use her magic for defence, instead of making her life easier.
She managed to keep them at bay long enough for a hero to come by and take them out, though one did manage to stab Jess in the chest with it's Thorn.
Waking up in a hospital bed, she vividly remembered the battle of will she had with the Thornwielder: she won.
Being questioned by a MAGI investigator, she told him everything about the attack, and the battle afterwards.
After carefully considering the investigator's words for weeks, she decided to follow his advice and returned to MAGI for hero training.
Although a loner by nature, she performed well in teams, protecting them with shields and immobalizing their opponants. Yet still, she returned home after each adventure with the feeling something was missing.
One night she stumbled across a gathering of Heroes and civilians just chatting under the Galaxy Girl statue.
This night changed her life, as it was the first of many nights that she went there. She started making friends.
And now?
She is herralded as one of the city's greatest heroes, has a comic and a cartoon based on her, her carreer at Geneva marked by promotions. She also found the love of her life under that very statue, and is engaged to be married next Halloween.

The Grav Mistress, Mistress of Gravity
If you have nothing useful to say, you have two choices: Say something useless or stay quiet.
Given name: Evan Elliot
Hero:Basilisk (in game it's spelt Basi'lisk on account that Basilisk was taken but I really REALLY wanted the name
Gender:Male
Date of Birth:11/10/89
Powers:Amalgamated powers drawn from lizards.
Description of Powers: Possesses an incredible recuperative ability that constantly replenishes him. This means his recovery from injury and fatigue is greatly accelerated. Increased muscular density and efficiency, predominantly in his legs give him a range of devastating kicking attacks, and mean he is able to leap across large distances. Poison gland in his fingertips administer a stunning toxin that he uses sparsely, however theoretically were he mindless enough he could kill someone with the toxin by prolonging contact. Note: Gland is controlled consciously, luckily as it means he doesn't stun friends or family, though this does take some effort. Setae on his hands and feet give him a small degree of wall-crawling, however it's not exactly a fast way to travcl and is not available in game so it's purely for RP purposes/and or fiction. Small degree of enhanced senses, essentially he tastes/smells a possible threat and can sometimes be seen slightly sticking his tongue out and appear to lick his lips. Is developing some form of defensive camouflage when frightened.
Personality:Evan is still very timid, even after gaining his abilities. Feels a strong sense of duty, it is this feeling that drives him. Fun-loving teenager, but very considerate and thoughtful, often beyond his years. Puts others first.
Physical Description:As Evan: Scrawny, but with a strangely muscular undertone. Medium length hair, cheeky smile, wears cargo pants and tshirts mainly. Has just started at Paragon University studying Biology so sometimes carries a small rucsac. As Basilisk: Costume is very skin hugging, covered in a scale design with reptilian barbs on the forearms. Wears a modified pair of goggles over his eyes. Moves and crouches like a lizard.
History/Backstory: Quick version till the full one is written...
Accidentally injected with a genetically chimeric sample of lizard DNA while on a field trip to a Crey Laboratory. Initial reaction was a life threatening siezure. However instead of killing him, it bonded with his own DNA and gave him incredible abilities.
Bullied by Metas at school. Thought his newfound powers would change that, but it made things worse.
Was able to maintain his secret.
Sister was walking home from work, having sewed him a dragon costume during her breaks. She was mugged and left comatose. Evan took the costume, not quite finished and modified it before taking to the streets to find her attacker. He's still looking.
Given name: Classified.
Hero/Villain name (delete as applicable): Red Commissar.
Gender: Male.
Age: Classified.
Powers: Enhanced Reflexes, Stronger than average strength, agility and edurance. Expert in munitions and marksman. Knows some vicious hand to hand combat too.
Personality: Stern, Quiet, Loyal and constantly puzzled in his own way.
Physical Description: http://img48.imageshack.us/img48/1232/76rm.jpg
History/Backstory: Not much is known about Red Commissar who is employed from overseas to help clean the streets of Paragon. He is willing to admit his age is at least 3 decades and his first name is Andrei. He is known to use Hero Corp and UN Equipment when needed, but he would rather use his decades old weapons and other Soviet Union era equipment.
On a light note, his cape is held together with a tarnished Order Of The Soviet Union Medal.
Apparently spent some time serving with the UN during the Yugoslavian Civil War and is recently employed by the Hero Corp to help keep the peace in Paragon from Hellians to even the mighty Rikti.
He was trained with thousands more normal Red Army Soldiers into Super Soldiers for the Soviet Hero Corp Division of the Red Army. It his rumoured that he himself has had past Heroes in the family where the name Red Commissar originated.
Though he acts friendly and has a sense of humour, he can be a bit cold and distant at times. He is afraid of Radiation and not getting enough to drink at parties.
Red Commissar is friendly to not just the more famous clients of the statue, but a friend to the newer generation of heroes at Paragon. He currently resides in the newly built Crimson Star Apartments in Galaxy City.
He is know to have more than a simple Teacher-Student relationship with his Apprentice, Pink Commissar?.
Clad in his Soviet Hero Corp Red Army Uniform, he's always on call under the Galaxy Girl reading the Newspaper or resting his eyes quietly. He currently is teaching an Apprentice Pink Commissar, but is curious why she choose him. He also currently leads the newly formed Super Group, Workers of Eastern Europe.
Red Commissar has gotten some fame for crushing a record breaking number of Council? and Tsoo?, He is also famous for foiling a plot and defeating Doctor Vahzilosk from starting a plague as well as fought Lusca?, Babbage and several other giant Villians.
He also has a Family? hit of seven hundred thousand dollars, hence the reason why he wears his bodyarmour and mask 24/7.
The last Hellion that was heard making a Yakov Smirnov joke around Galaxy was later checked in at the Hospital, everyone of his bones broken or damaged in some way. Some people have stranges senses of humour. Red Commissar isn't one of them.
And rubber snakes for some reason annoy him.
Given name: Mikael Ryan
Hero name: The Silver Weasel
Gender: Male
Age: Assumed 25, unknown whether he still ages.
Powers: Faerie Magic
Description of Powers : Channeling Natural Magic through his body.
Personality: Dependant on Land he's in contact with.
Physical Description: Tall, wiry. Hair in a ponytail. Shortsighted.
History/Backstory: "I started life early. I think I was only a day old. Anyway, my mother was a nurse over from Ireland and my father was an English Army soldier. I was born in an army medical tent in Cambridge sometime in the start of October 1980.
I reached adolescence with no real problems, but I think I was born with a bit of wonder-lust; so at 17, I jumped at the chance to take an exchange visit to Russia. I loved it there; having been so involved with Magic in my youth and reading about all the stories. Sunlights never agreed with me, and once you get used to the cold, its not so bad.
Anyway, I basically told my folks that I was staying and settled down to study.
After about six months I had got enough magical nous to be able to create a portal, and so the next Halloween, I filled the bath with oils, water and cast a scrying spell.
(Thats the short version, I wont go into the 8 hours chanting beforehand.)
The shimmering waters revealed a battle scene between little shimmers of light and a huge chicken legged hut. (Minion of Baba Yaga, the [censored] Queen herself).
I looked through and saw it slaughtering the lights, so I yelled at it to stop. Mighty intellectual leap there, as it saw me and ran towards me, screaming like a banshee.
It reached through the portal and then realised that the gravity in my area was altered, so I had this 6 foot pair of chicken legs reaching around my bathroom trying to catch me. The only thing that occurred to me at the time was Bleach, and as my little kitten, Pixie, wandered into the room, I smashed the legs with the bottle of bleach.
This seemed to have the desired effect as it screamed and ran off into the night.
Looking back through the portal, with a white purring lump next to me, the fairies thanked me for their help and said that their fallen comrades would wish to bequeath their life force to us for my help.
Now, at this point I wasnt really thinking straight so I said yes. Instantly I was given unearthly powers that Im still trying to get to grips with, but because of how different my metabolism is, they appear in differing ways to normal fairies.
Most fairies cant sting a hole through a brick wall, for instance.
I was named Silver Weasel as its the closest Russian or English can come to my faerie name. (Silver is a pleasant derogatory term for Humans and Weasel from the fact that I was so fast moving in attacking.)
I stayed on in Russia for a few years, fighting bad guys, helping Swan with the Red Threat, seeing over Glasnost, falling in love; until I found the curse of faerie powers.
My powers are so attuned to the Earth (and being up on the Mir Satellite was a nightmare, I can tell you
.sorry that it had to crash), that I come to resemble peoples views of Faeries. So in Russia I had dragonfly wings, and my fingers were starting to grow long and gnarled; as well as aging very rapidly.
So, I bravely came over to America; where my powers changed and I started almost as a Green Superhero again. I miss Russia, and to an extent I miss England and my family, but Im finding a family in Paragon now."
Weaknesses : Iron. Due to his powers being based in Faerie Magic, he has a psychological fear of Iron and it tends to send his powers crazy. This isn't so much a problem shotting at robots, but being touched by Iron tends to burn him and sets off random effects.
Given name: Alfred Bester
Hero name: 'The Telepath' - unofficial, created by American press, disliked by Prof. Bester.
Gender: Male
Age: 31 (Born August 5th, 1974)
Birthplace: Ashwell, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom
Qualifications: PhD Theoretical Physics, PhD Quantum Physics
Position: Professor, Quantum Physics, Cambridge University (UK)
Powers: Telekenesis, Telepathy, Precognition, multiple applications thereof. Is unable to suppress his ability to hear the surface thoughts of others at any time, and is capable of mental communication across any language barrier. His telekenesis varies in precision and strength, from the tiny movements of sub-atomic particles to create a 'teleporting' effect to his flinging around of villains. His precognition is subconscious and extremely limited. As well as mainly being based from sensing the opponent's thought, it only has a 'range' equal to when the enemy begins to plan an action. In general, however, he is pre-warned, by other methods, of any dangerous action (such as being shot at) within about a second of the event, allowing him to usually take action.
Personality: A gentleman to a fault, Alfred is learned, civilised, and urbane - though his intellect and ability often causes some hints of arrogance about him and viciousness in an argument. He is quite obviously very favouritist and attached to attractive young women, perhaps being far more eager to greet and welcome new examples of female beauty than to greet new male arrivals. Perhaps a recent example that shows his preference is his carrying of a supply of chocolate bars with him - not for himself, but to please the multiple young women he is friends with who are extremely fond of the substance. Although he can be somewhat snobbish about his intellect and qualifications, his riches are somewhat a subject of avoidance to him, being always more than willing to help anyone out or buy gifts for anyone on a whim. Those who get closer to him than the surface, however, shall find within him an excellent and valuable friend.
Physical Description: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../telepath4.jpg - A handsome man in his late twenties or early thirties, Alfred Bester is rarely seen outside of a suit of some kind. He is a little over six feet tall, and the immediate feature that would draw attention is his eyes - they burn a soft blue 'flame', though beneath this effect his normal eyes are still in existence. When dressed for heroism, he wears a fine black suit, with black leather shoes, a grey shirt and a red tie. His large cape appears to be made of the same unidentifiable but soft material the rest of his suit is. Those interested in technology would note the reticule he wears over his right eye - this holographic display provides him communications, targeting, and other functions, with similar ability to a desktop computer.
History/Backstory:
Alfred Bester was a normal middle-class, albeit unusually intelligent, young teenager of sixteen. To this day he knows and remembers nothing of what happened to give him a double-T chromosome he hadn't been born with or had the year before. From what can be worked out, he awoke one morning to find that he had telepathic and telekinetic abilities, although very weak. Although he could hide this, he could not hide the fact that his eyes were now bright and fiery blue, more so when he used his abilities. Terrified of himself, he took to denying even to himself his talent, and focused himself entirely on academic studies.
Coming out on the other side of prestigious and world-famous Cambridge University with two PhDs? in Physics, he rapidly became one of the field's rising stars, internationally giving lectures and working on important research for most of his twenties. This content world of his was shattered, however, by the Rikti invasion that descended upon the Earth.
Seeing the devastation to the world's major cities (although his own country got off lightly compared to many others) and the world's heroes cut down within days, he resolved to finally stop denying what he had and helped to fight off the Rikti. He focused himself mainly upon defending London, working with the British government in preventing further harm to the people.
After the main Rikti threat was over, he returned to Cambridge and was accepted as a professor, yet what he had done and what he was would not leave his mind - nor the minds of the world. He was constantly requested to perform lectures about himself all across the planet, and his existence as 'The Telepath' became inescapable. Finally, wracked with constant jet-lag, he decided to take hero work in Paragon City.
Cambridge University is always happy to have such a famous scholar in their history, doubly so when he is still an active professor, and as such their technology development department tends to provide him with whatever helpful items he (doesn't) need. So far, these inventions have included sticky grenades, thrown tranquilliser darts, his holographic targeting and information reticle, and a bullet-proof fabric which he wears in emblemed suits. The University also provides about 3/4ths of his funding, primarily through his regular, £500,000/year pay as a professor, and gives him the use of the University's 'Sky Dart' hypersonic aircraft as a transatlantic taxi. The British Government also pays some other travel and living expenses for him when he is rarely staying in the United Kingdom, but this amounts to little.
Professor Bester, known as 'The Telepath' (a name which he finds terribly rude and does not endorse in any way), currently fights crime and evil in Paragon City, and can be recognised by his black formal suits bearing a Greek 'Psi' letter on the breast.

Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Given name: Derek Venis
Hero name: <none>
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Powers: Claws, Fitness(speed), some basic brawling abilities(brawl and Kick) and a resistance to physical damage.
Description of Powers: Besides from him being quite a good brawler and having a good physique from growing up on the streets of the Hollows, very little is known about Dereks powers. He's not quite sure what to make of them himself. He's just been going along with what nature has given him... if nature really is the cause of it.
Personality: Former gang member as he is, he's cocky, self-secure(at least on the surface) and hot-headed.
Physical Description: Brown eyes, brown hair with an almost invisible tint of dark green. a little under 6' tall and with a rather thin build.
History/Backstory: Born and raised in Paragon. The hollows to be more specific. Did well his first years, went too school, played with friends and so on until more and more gangs started showing up. He got into bad company and ended up with the Outcasts. Did some petty theft, smoked some dope, robbed some civilians. One day he was on an errand for one of the local bosses with some money that was supposed to go to a sort of allied gang. He delivered the money and as he was heading back to the Outcasts "base" he heard a loud explosion and a rumbling noise. He thought that something big must have blown up and got curious, following the sound he got closer and closer to the neighbourhood where his own house was. His steps got faster and at the last bloch he was running in nothing less than a panic. He stopped dead in his tracks as he saw his former apartment building in ruins and with rock dust filling his lungs with each strained breath he realized he had lost his parents and his home.
He later found out that the Outcasts had a drug-lab in the basement of his building and during a shoot-out with a rival gang of Trolls the lab had gone up in smoke, taking the whole building with it.
He roamed the streets for weeks, fighting with almost every gang member he saw and eventually, starving, dehydrated and worn out he collapsed in an old abandoned apartment. He stayed there for a year, plotting how to get his hands on the boss that was responsible for the lab.
One day he woke up by the faintest of sounds. He bolted to the door and flung it open but the hallway was empty. The only thing he found was a small brown envelope that had been slid under the door. He opened it and in short the message was: "From "The Militia" to Derek. We've kept an eye on you. Your powers are impressive. The militia needs you. Be at the statue of <The heroinne raising her hand towards the sky> on thursday at 1900 hours. Don't be late."
"I wonder what the hell this is." Derek thought and looked at the clock on the wall. 18.45. "Hmm it's Thursday today. I wonder who the hell sent this. Only one way to find out... I'd better get moving."
Wow. Haven't seen one of those for a long time. So many alts to choose from. Ah, I'll just go for my current favourite.

Given name: Rebecca Rhodes
Hero/Villain name: Anathema (given to her by the press but accepted by her as she considers herself an outcast or pariah to society for her crimes.)
Gender: Female
Age: 31
Powers: Technologically advanced rifle and devices, some cybernetic enhancements.
Description of Powers: Anathemas rifle was purpose built for her following her trauma. She is able to fire a variety of rounds depending on her circumstances. Rubber bullets and concussion grenades for human/meta-human arrests, live rounds for monsters/undead creatures. Carries a variety of improvised technology to support this.
She has successfully improved her cybernetic implants to allow enhanced movement and speed, the silicon muscles in her legs giving extraordinary speed on flat ground. Her arm, although artificial, carries no superhuman strength but provides extra stability for firing.
Personality: Deeply traumatised by her experiences, Rebecca is extremely shy and can become withdrawn very easily. Once these are overcome however, there is a kind and intelligent person underneath. She suffers occasional mood swings and irrational episodes but these are becoming less frequent with time. Very sensitive when discussing physical appearances, children or hospitals.
Physical Description: 5 10 tall, Anathema is very thin for her height. This is mainly due to the effects of her bodily changes. Unable to eat a normal diet, she has lost all the colour in her skin and most of her body fat. The drugs that she has to take to prevent organ rejection turn her hair grey so she combats this by dying it bright colours, most notably green. Her most striking feature is her artificial right arm and her eyepatch which hides her missing right eye.
History/Backstory: Rebecca was once a respected researcher in her field, developing replacement organs for injured or disabled people. This specialism brought her to the attention of Dr Vahzilok who persuaded her to develop new devices and fit them to comatose patients. Once she discovered that the doctor was abducting people from the street and creating monsters, she confronted him and threatened to go to the police. Vahzilok responded by abducting her and taking various body parts from her to fit to his monstrous creations, including her eye, her arm and other organs. To increase her suffering, he anesthetised her body but kept her mind conscious during the procedure so that she could feel every cut of the knife. It was only the intervention of another hero that saved her life.
Rebecca was able to recover and use her expertise to put herself back together as well as develop specialist weapons with which to extract her revenge. Although revenge is her primary motivation for hunting the doctor, she cares deeply for the city that she has grown up in and what has happened to it since the invasion.
The effects of her experiences at the doctors hands have caused her massive psychological scarring as she feels personally responsible for the monsters that he has unleashed. To her, every cadaver that she destroys could have been one of the people she worked upon and therefore brings her one step closer to redemption. She is very sensitive over her appearance as the technology she has used to repair herself can cause her to resemble the Eidolons in appearance. There are no mirrors in her apartment.
She has several friends amongst the superhero community, most notably, her flatmate, Tenebrae who has developed quite a crush on her, although she is unaware of this. Recently, due to advice from her therapist, she has taken to meeting with other heroes to try and reduce her psychotic episodes.

The daughter of a reknowned heroine and a Public Relations man, she led the life of luxury, going to concerts with friends and behaving as any normal teenager would. Yet surprisingly she had inherited a few talents from her mother, psychic abilities.
The 2005 Glastonbury Festival marked the change, it was stormy and a tempestuous wind was coursing through the festival. She went to see her favourite band, The Kaiser Chiefs, and then the storm intensified, a flood occured also from the river bursting its banks. She was swept in a tide through many things, she unlike some concert-goers was saved by being thrown into a music-speaker tent.
On waking many hours later, she felt strange..the storm..it had re-awakened something in her, her powers were present all of the sudden. She knew it, she had to rescue her friend, Ashlee, who had disappeared in the flood. And keeping in with her mother's profession, perhaps actually be a hero...so she decided to call herself Chiefette
seeing as I may be joining the roleplay community on union, I might aswell give the stats on Acenra
------------------------------------------------------------
Given Name(s): Adam Julius Hastoria or Azuresol Jucréte Hastoria
Hero Name: Acenra
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Race: Airvertian/White British
Powers: Flight, Fitness, Sacred Light (depending on mood and distribution, it can display itself in many ways, for example, white fire or red lightning)
Personality: Dark, mysterious, wise (sometimes) and sarcastic. However can be friendly at most times.
Physical Description: 5'11", blonde, shoulder length hair. Elvish ears. Red sclera and blue pupils for his eyes, but these are usually hidden behind a mask or pair of shades. Tanned skin. If seen comming from Terortheus (an ancient and forgotten realm) he has large, golden wings. But this has been dismissed as a myth as only one person has seen him like this. His build is average for his age. He is rarley seen in costume but his normal clothes are a black jacket, red shirt and stonewash jeans.
History/Backstory: Adam's life is nothing short of a kick in the teeth.
At the age of nine, his family were slaughtered, leaving him to spend three years alone in British woodland while his brother, who was a year older, ran for it. Adam hadn't developed his powers yet, so it was harder than you would think.
Three years later, Adam was exiled from England because 'Shadow', the same thing that massacred his family, destroyed his home town. Adam developed his powers then when trying to defend many people from the demon.
Adam then spent four years under the name 'Acenra' fighting crime with four other heroes in the island city of Legend City, just off the California shore.
During late august, Adam came back from his training on Trial Mountain. He had learnt that Shadow's real name was Vierosinactericta the cruel, a demon who had his hand in the creation of the Netherworld. Adam called him Shadow as his real name was unpronouceble and poison to his ears. He also learnt that his destiny was to fight Shadow for the fate of the magical balance which determines most things in life.
Early september, Shadow destroyed Legend City and made Adam chase him across America, playing on his hatred and vengence. Everytime Adam stops, Shadow returns claiming to be bored then beating Adam an inch from death.
During his time in Legend City, Adam has become one with music, being the singer and rhythm guitarist in a small time rock band called the Heroes of Music. This is no longer a reality as the other members of the band are now buried under three feet of rubble.
Given name:He can't remember his full name, but has taken on the handle 'Ian' (a younger hero joked his name for Ian, rather than Ice, which amused him no end) to his friends.
Hero name: Ambassador of Ice.
Gender:Male.
Age:Unknown, but it is certain that he is one of the longest living meta-humans on the planet - hundreds more years than even Statesman. He was born in a darker age of European history, but due to exceptional circumstances (see backstory for details) was in a coma like state of hibernation, and if not for sustaining the area of freezing air around him when discovered, he would have been pronounced dead by modern medical standards.
Powers:Mutant powers over ice and water, incredible strength and girth and is a highly motivated, disciplined knight, who fights in close quarter combat with his mace.
Description of Powers:Secretes chemicals from his body which affects the moisture in the air, turning it into an armour of solid ice, which covers his entire body, already protected by heavy chainmail and steel plating. Can also speed up and slow down his metabolism, slowing down when he wants to replenish his ice armour during prolonged fighting, or speeding up to unleash strength and might which catches many foes of the same build and height off guard. Due to his extraordinary rate of recovery and his power to focus it, he has incredible strength and can easily lift his own weight and his armour with ease over a great distance, and combines strength and skill with his mace to great effect.
Personality: Bold, calm, quiet and loyal. He is a determined man, he is well aware of his goals but is not brazen so that he would charge into a situation ill prepared. He is sometimes withdrawn, and avoids heavy industrial areas if he can; because he's wary of a world that has changed much during his 'deep sleep'.
Physical Description:A towering knight in shining armour, it sounds cliche, but from a distance he does indeed look like he belongs in a fairytale book. He is a large man, his armour is metallic grey and while it used to be silver, it is actually dulled, but his armour of ice tricks eyes (except around the extremities, where it's thinner). His helmet is medevil in looks, and has wings that look silvery blue when his ice armour is covering his head, and he has simple, decorative blue runes that run in a celtic pattern across the plates that cover his protective metallic mesh.
History/Backstory:Ian is a mutant, one of the first recorded to be around as far back as the Dark Ages. Rather than being shunned as an outcast, or persecuted by those who did not understand, Ian was taken into a castle somewhere in North East England, where instead of languishing in dark pits of despair, he was scholared and taught how to fight and lead, and how to fend for himself. No one ever took it upon themselves to father or mother Ian, and his real parents likely abandoned him when they first percieved his changes. But he never felt alone: there were others like him, and in the same castle they resided for many a year, untill a bond grew between them all, and they considered themselves not only friends to one another, but family.
They didn't sit idle in the castle either - they often ventured far outside the castle walls and yearned for adventure.
When England found itself at war, they realised that many of the castle guard they had befriended over the years sometimes relied on their talents to help defend it's gates; a task they all relished and they all fought side by side like a pride of lions.
When the tidings of war became less defensive and more offensive, the band were called out. For several years they protected the smooth shores looking out into rough seas, where unknown enemies were waiting to strike, fair plains fit for farming, but on the borders of woods that harboured dark and unwanted visitors. After many moons they drove them out, and with their learning and skills, they continued across Europe for a while, seeking out new alliances and settling many petty disputes, often through simple discussion or helping out beseiged villages and towns against bandits and wild tribes.
One night, a messenger arrived from Britain, asking for a secret counsel with the brothers. He told them that they had impressed many and their doings were of local legend, and had reached the ears of the thinkers and planners of the kingdom. His tone then darkened as he spoke of a new wave of chatter that was spreading from the places where these wisened men were studying. Speaking of lands across the western sea, which had long been suspected but never proven for sure.
The brothers understood that they were to be sailing in search of new lands and find the source of the troubles that had enshrouded their castle long ago. They leapt at the oppurtunity and set forth with a small selection of their finest and experienced comrades.
Little is known of their journey and the perils they may have encountered, and lost to legend, but they ended up in the area that is now Paragon City after a long trek. The Circle of Thorns was not in as much hiding those days, before the Europeans came and confused their dark plans and ways (but they were not as obvious or many in number as they are today, and not nearly as powerful). Knowing that they had to stem at least some of the harm coming from the parts of Oranbega that had been partially reawkened, they fought many beasts touched by foul shadow and against some of the guards who sought to protect, and enforce, whatever was in the depths.
Again, much detailed information is lost of these events, but they found their way without any surviving company, determined whether or not they came back to their own land , into some of the passageways of the hidden city. There they challenged the Envoy of Shadow and his minions. They drove him away but at great cost; all but one were slain in battle, and he was barely clinging onto life. It was Ian, the Ambassador of Ice and Water, who drove away the Envoy with his mace encrusted with ice that glimmered and broke many of his subjects. He wandered blindy into dark and cramped arches, and fell into a hibernation phase where his body all but stopped entirely to recover.
He was recently found by a small group of heroes chasing a lone mage suspected of raiding museams into the chasm where he had laid for so long and because of the brief bursts of power and outbursts of energy exhanges, he raised out of the rubble bewildered and disorientated. Then he collapsed, right in front of the group.
He awoke, to a much changed world and rumours of a winged shadow that was once again stalking hallways below...
Given name: Katarin-Marie Bromovich (Kata)
Hero name: Arctic Princess
Gender: Female
Age: 25
Powers: Although not in possession of super-human abilities, Kata is a consummate fighter, keeps herself in tremendously good shape, has some experience with small firearms and has led CIA operatives in the field. She is also a surveillance operative and hacker.
Description of Powers (if applicable): On a mission in Japan, Kata was introduced to the katana, a weapon she prefers over firearms, which she considers necessary but nonetheless barbaric. She is well-versed in self-defence and was noted to have high perception and good instincts during her CIA training.
Personality: Kata is, to the outside world at least, compassionate, morally strong and occasionally misses the joke. Her confidence tends to sit on a sliding scale and she is not always sure of herself, especially in a city full of super-powered individuals. She likes to be organised and this sometimes spills over into the realms of anal-retentiveness. Kata is not ashamed of the past of her country but will try to put people right if they air views which she believes no longer apply to the modern Russia.
Physical Description: Kata stands at approximately 5'10", weighs a toned 9st 3lbs, has dirty-blond hair and wears either her iCON-bought battlesuit (red and white, with yellow trim) or her Soviet-themed workout outfit (red sports top, hair tied back, green combat trousers with a yellow star motif running down the outside of both legs)
History/Backstory: Kata was born in the city of Minsk, USSR on 26th April, 1981. Her father worked at the power plant and her mother was a legal typist.
Kata's first proper memory was on her 5th birthday when her father refused to allow her to go outside and play with her new bicycle. It was the day of the Chernobyl nuclear incident in the Ukraine, not far from the border with Belarus. Kata cried.
Kata was a serious child at school but she came out of her shell whenever she played sport. Kata was on the gymnastics team and was picked out as a good leader. Kata never won any badges or medals for her gymnastics, but this led to ballet classes and a (so far) lifelong love of what is deemed to be high culture.
At the age of 8, Kata was totally unaware that the Berlin Wall had been taken down as her father was a staunch party follower and would not allow 'filthy propaganda' to enter the family home.
Two years later, when the USSR was disolving, Kata was selected for a special programme of testing. The hypothesis at the time was: Due to the high levels of radiation in the areas surrounding the Chernobyl reactor, children born between 1978 and 1988 could show signs of 'mutation' manifested as enhanced motor skills, precognition, advanced physical ability, cell regeneration...etc.
Kata was subjected to rigorous testing for signs of improved capabilities and spent a year away from her parents in a test facility in Archangelsk. She became accustomed to waking at 4am, a strict if basic diet, regular showers and excercise. Playtime was actively discouraged.
During this ordeal Kata adapted to her environment, made transitory friends and wrote only one letter home to her parents which was never sent.
Kata excelled at the humanities and was allowed to take her history and religious education exams at the age of 15. The rest she took at 16 and passed. She gained scholarship at a technical college with excellent sports facilities where she began to develop a relationship with computers as well as several young men.
At the age of 18 Kata signed herself up for military service to help her parents survive in the face of economic depression. Her knack for learning new skills, especially combat, was noted by her group commander and Kata was put forward for specialist training in surveillance and stealth operations. Being somewhat distant and cold, and in a profession where she was daily surrounded by men, Kata gained the nickname 'Arctic Princess'.
Her talents as an agent did not go unnoticed. At the age of 23 Kata was effectively poached from the Russian army by the CIA which is how she came to learn of Paragon City.
She travelled virtually round the world in active service and has done some questionable things in the name of national and international security, although none of them too serious.
Kata arrived in Paragon 5 months ago and, after training with E.L.I.T.E., was referred to the Red Commissar, a man famous both in Russia and Paragon. The rest is history in the making...
My roleplaying roots are lodged deep in third person, past tense forum-based gaming; with no character structures, no rule sets, no dice - just a healthy display of English, or lack thereof.
On all of the sites I used to haunt, uh, roleplay, there was a well established character application sheet which was basically used to "test" a player's grasp of grammar, spelling, roleplaying and whatnot. Obviously, this one isn't going to do any such thing - this is just for fun.
The layout will possibly be very familiar to some, and completely new to others. Here we go:
