Militia Thursdays
Well speaking of builds I am a bit concearned about Dereks build. After checking out actual %-values in that Char-builder you hyperlinked I feel that he isn't as kick-a$$ as he is supposed to be.
Here is the build he has up to date. Pay no attention to the order the stuff is in. I really can't remember in what order I choose his powers.

My main goal is to have high damage resistance and deal out a lot of damage myself. I don't mean I'd like to be a tank but still I feel that I don't deal enough damage for not being a tank... blah blah, now I'm ranting. I feel something is wrong somewhere but I don't know enough about CoX to knwo what it is, if anything...
Also I'm not sure why the builder claims that I'm lv22 'cause I'm only 21 but meh... not much difference.
ok, first things first.
the invul passives only need three slots, ever.
two, they are very weak on the scrapper secondary, instead of resist elements get unyeilding, temp invul need to be in there too so get rid of steath for now, those two toggle will give you much more resistance, and kncokback and mezz protection.
also, get rid of kick for now and get stamina. as you will have a few end issues otherwise.

something more like this, not as meny attacks, but better reistance, and better damage and endurance.
jsut a suggestion mind.
Derek, as you know, the more damage on our little RP team the better. Looking at your build, I have a few concerns.
First reaction was "No wonder you lost to Tom"
1. You're better of with Unyielding as Hoplite rightly mentioned. No immediate need for Resist Elements.
2. In addition to what Hoplites said, you wont be needing to four-slot stuff. Maximum benefit is now on three of the same enhancement.
3. Resist Physical Damage aint worth slotting up anyway since it's so minor a boost.
4. You'll be far better with Dull Pain in there somewhere. And I dont see you needing Concealment or Fighting pool anywhere in an attack chain, unless its for RP purposes.
Heres the ideal build up to level 22:

Well I'll be keeping this in mind when the next respec opportunity comes along.
Stealth and Kick I have for rp-purposes and I don't like the idea of giving up my Follow up as Hoplite suggest although I am willing to try.
The reason I choose the passive protection powers was that I thought they would fit in better with my character. They're the reason he found out he was a mutant as late in his life as he did (that and some ignorance and being rather daft sometimes =P ). He always thought he was just being a mean fighter rather than a mutant with damage-resisting powers. having powers requiring concentration and focus might have given it away some since he's no martial artist with any of that chi-stuff .
But I'v been beginning to realise that the passive powers suck a bit, that's why I might have tried to overcompensate a little with too many powerslots.
Thanks for the pointers!
edit: I am also quite fond of my recharge reductions although they 'cause me to drain a lot of stamina. I really hate having to wait for powers to charge up. My current build allows me to do an attack all the time. As soon as an attack is finished another one has recharged so I'm never without attacks to execute. :edit
Ok, this time I actually logged in to the game and alt-tab:ed while filling out the Hero Builder form.
And this is what it REALLY looks like. It is basically the same but with even more over-use of power slots than you thought

Well, with that in mind, you can work Stealth and Kick into that build I've suggested, only you will be sacrificing Hasten, which my friend, is the equivalent of having 2x SO rechg. into all of your powers.
You. love. Follow Up. It's your 5-second Build Up per strike, you'll need it.
You will be so so shocked at the level of resistance/defense you will have, with the likes of Unyielding, Temp Inv. and Invincibility as opposed to your minor passives - the difference will be visible on any +2 mission.
I'll be right back with two new suggested builds for you, one with Hasten and one without. I'll even throw in some annotations per power in the hope that they help you make some better dicisions.
This one assumes you choose Steath and Kick for RP, missing out Hasten while still making the most of your Claws and Invulnerability.

---------------------------------------------
01) --> Swipe==> Dmg(1) Dmg(3) Dmg(3) Acc(13) Rechg(25)
Keep in mind that with more attacks, you'll have a wider attack chain thus, less worries of recharge. Damage scale is 7.5 with Follow Up's damage buff.
01) --> Resist Physical Damage==> DmgRes(1) DmgRes(40)
Not really worth slotting until you have spare slots. Minor boost, especially when compared to others in your secondary. 5.62% Res. to L/S.
02) --> Slash==> Dmg(2) Dmg(5) Dmg(5) Acc(13) Rechg(34)
Damage scales at 9.0 with Follow Up's damage buff. Note that these figures are based on Single Origin enhancements available for purchase at level 22.
04) --> Temp Invulnerability==> DmgRes(4) DmgRes(7) DmgRes(7) EndRdx(9)
A whopping 35.10% resistance to Lethal and Smashing damage. I'm surprised you dont have this. Why dont you have this? You want Derek weaker for RP reasons?
06) --> Dull Pain==> Rechg(6) Rechg(9) Rechg(11) Heal(11) Heal(15) Heal(31)
Again, I'm shocked Derek doesn't have this heal power: 77.97% heal that increases your Max. Hit Points by 38.99% plus, you can keep this permanent with Hasten and 3x Rechg. SO's.
08) --> Follow Up==> Acc(8) Rechg(15) Rechg(33) TH_Buf(36)
With your current attack chain, the extra damage here wouldn't be needed, but it's a 10-second damage buff every 15 seconds, with Hasten or 2 SO rechg, you can use it every 9 seconds to keep your damage buff'd.
10) --> Combat Jumping==> DefBuf(10)
12) --> Swift==> Run(12)
14) --> Super Jump==> Jump(14) Jump(37)
16) --> Unyielding==> DmgRes(16) DmgRes(17) DmgRes(17) EndRdx(19)
Mainly used for its resistance to mezzing and control. No wonder Tom kept you off your feet.
18) --> Focus==> Dmg(18) Dmg(19) Dmg(21) Acc(21) Rechg(25)
An impressive 11.2 damage scale. Tom used this to knock you about. At level 24, your attack chain will be similar to this: Follow Up > Swipe > Slash > Focus. Next target. Repeat.
20) --> Health==> Heal(20) Heal(33) Heal(33)
22) --> Stamina==> EndMod(22) EndMod(23) EndMod(23)
24) --> Stealth==> EndRdx(24)
26) --> Eviscerate==> Dmg(26) Dmg(27) Dmg(27) Acc(29) Rechg(31)
Hmm, more power. Another 11.6 with Follow Up, but Eviscerate allows you to hit criticals more often, as well as being a better AoE than Spin.
28) --> Invincibility==> DefBuf(28) DefBuf(29) DefBuf(31) EndRdx(46)
Alot of people dont understand this power. Basically, its a defense buff per enemy within your melee range. Slotted, you've got a 5.86% defense to all but Psionics which is buffed by 1.125% per enemy nearby. Also boosts your Accuracy in the same method.
30) --> Kick==> Acc(30) Dmg(37) Dmg(43) Dmg(43) Rechg(46)
32) --> Tough==> DmgRes(32) DmgRes(34) DmgRes(34) EndRdx(37)
I've thrown this in there because its similar to your passive Resist Physical Damage, but better: 17.55% resistance to L/S fully slotted. Although still weak compared to Temp. Inv. but it adds onto your total resistance okay.
35) --> Tough Hide==> DefBuf(35) DefBuf(36) DefBuf(36)
A rather boring 5.85% passive defense power but it adds on okay.
38) --> Unstoppable==> DmgRes(38) DmgRes(39) DmgRes(39) Rechg(39) Rechg(40) Rechg(40)
The mother of all mothers. For just over two minutes, you're like "nahnah nah nah nahh, you can't hurt me" 'cos your resistances go way high, while you continue to dish out damage! 81.90% fully slotted, more resistance to mezz's and control but alas, after 180 seconds, it takes it toll and you wont be able to tell the diference btween north and south, mouth and buttocks. *giggles*
41) --> Conserve Power==> EndRdx(41) EndRdx(42) Rechg(42) Rechg(42) Rechg(43)
I dont know what Epic you like, but Body Mastery is quite beneficial I guess.
44) --> Focused Accuracy==> EndRdx(44) EndRdx(45) TH_Buf(45) TH_Buf(45) TH_Buf(46)
Good for PvP. Lets you hammer through other players' defenses and gives +perception.
47) --> Shockwave==> Acc(47) Dmg(48) Dmg(48) Dmg(48) Range(50) Range(50)
I know, I know. Why so late? But its a mother of an AoE Knockback.. for waht purpose? Sounds counterproductive when you have Invincibility running, but this late, might as well take it.
49) --> Invisibility==> Rechg(49) Rechg(50)
Dunno if you're going for a kind of Predator-thing with Derek's camouflaging mutation, but he'll need this or Superspeed stacked with Stealth to be invisible to most mobs and PvP'ers.
---------------------------------------------
01) --> Sprint==> EndRdx(1)
01) --> Brawl==> Acc(1)
01) --> Critical Hit==> Inherent
02) --> Rest==> IntRdx(2)
---------------------------------------------
On the other hand, heres the full build with no Kick but with Hasten (for powers recharge), Invisibility (for predator-style hit and disappear) and Phaseshift (for escaping whatever disaster you forsee. Late level yes, but I'm thinking "bonus ability").

hehe lol. No not really... I just figured it would be more fitting with non-toggles. But with the difference in protection... I really am a total n00b... *shakes head in despair* I'm so sorry!
Now how the heck do I get a hold of a respec...? Maybe the dev's can look at my sorry a$$ excuse for a build and take pity on me, giving me a free respec. *Sits in a corner and practise making adorable puppy-eyes*
I regged at the forums in May this year. I started playing like a week or two before that... or maybe a month... I got my blaster on Defiant up to lv15 with sporadic gameplay. So half a year maybe.
Cool! Taskforce. I missed the last one =(
And on a whole different note... when anyone finds the time I really need help kicking some a$$ so I can get my extra costume slot.
I wouldn't worry about poor builds, anyone who took a look at some of mine would weep in despair and wonder how I managed to survive for so long. Besides, I've seen far worse when checking out other people's (e.g. four pools open at level 16). It's really not that bad. Anyone looking at Amber's might think I was suicidal to solo...
As it is, I only realised how essential the Fitness pool was a few months ago. I'm now using the respec that came with issue 7 to address all my old toons one at a time. I'm surprised you don't already have a freespec sitting there waiting for you (Derek was around before I7 yes?) Have a look in the message box next time you log on, it may well say "You have one unused respec available".

As for kicking posterior, I have the joys of a full day off tomorrow so I will be around advancing my alts and my main for the day until about 8:30pm. If you need a hand, let me know and we can arrange a time or just drop me a line ingame @Dante.

I wouldn't worry too much about making a toon super streamlined / efficient. Just make it workable, Derek.
Some handy hints in all of this are: Get stamina, Get Temporary Invunrability, Get UNyeilding, Get invincibility. These are pretty key powers. As long as you have these, you should be "workable".
May be worth considering the team you are playing with. You will, for instance, often be teaming with Force Commander and therefore often be speed boosted. This means that extra recharge slots or the hasten power may be less attractive.
Now Thursday's events make sense, hehe! Maybe I'll give you a rematch when you're respeced - Hyper Cat is beatable (Though he doesn't know it yet) as he is built as a Tanks best friend and solo wise has little defence. (Shhh, don't tell anyone!)
Why do you need Kick for RP reasons? I wouldn't even touch it with my trollers!!!
BTW I won't be able to make it this Thursday, but with any luck I should be back next Thursday - moving house
Leon
Not to rain on your stamina parade, I just notice that some toons need it and some toons don't.
A famous (and very familiar example for me atleast ) Regen, it doesn't need stamina and it never will, My MM, never had stamina and I manage perfectly. True sometimes it's anoying if there are a couple of big spawns but still. Stamina is only needed for those who take there time in here very seriously.
Everyone can manage without it, if you take a slower pace. (and if you have a resident kinetics in the team you realy don't need it). I realize this opinoin houlds now ground on the toggle heavy people, Who need to run as much as posible. But even then I found that poping a blue now and again works too.
Bottomline: Everyone has his/her own playing stile, I choose more powers over 3 powers that are needed to get stamina. And for RPG toons, it's even easier take the powers for story reasons, not for "powerplay" (a balanced build would help though, but I choose my powers by gut and preffrence hasn't failed me yet)
Agree. It is entirely possible to play without Stamina (especially for /regens or /masterminds). However it does take a fair bit of skill in both play and slotting / building the character.
My advice (only advice) is that for your first character, and before you really get to grips with game mechanics and play, getting stamina is a very good idea.

You should probablly be aiming to get stamina at level 20 or soon after.
Personally, Id skip the teleport powers and rain of fire to get swift / health / stamina.
Bare in mind Rain of Fire is a tasty AoE power, but causes all the enemies in it to scatter and run off, and then to get angry and attack you. To use it effectively you need some way of containing them - like an Ice tank, Controller, or Storm defender. Otherwise its best saved as a "Finish them off" power.

Maybe... I'm not sure. I only had a very basic idea of the character and... yes I ´think it is needed for rp-purposes.
Otherwise I do realize the lack of efficiency in having two powers basically doing the same thing.
