I7 changes to dominators
Don't you think Greater Ice Sword looks a bit ridiculous, though? I was hoping for the animation Jack has on his amazing sword attack, not a wavering sword nearly taller than me that looks like it might break anytime.
I'm quite looking forward to the Imps, and interested to see if I can go Staminaless with Consume. But I agree, Fire control seems a bit uninspiring in general. I think it will be a case of going for damage, damage, more damage and just enough control that I stay alive doing the damage.
Looks like no change to Ice Sword Circle, btw.

Fire Control low on AOE control? You get 2 hard AOE controls & an AOE Immob by level 18. They do need 6 slotting though. Well the holds do. Fire Cages doesn't and is likely to get a Dominator killed in any case really.
Personally I think Fire is as good as Ice for AOE control. In fact in terms of preventing enemies firing back its better as Flashfire > Ice Patch in stopping incoming damage (they get to fire back occasionally whilst slipping about on an icepatch)
Pity I picked Thorns for my Dom. And then skipped the melee attacks (only level 14 when I gave up on him. Maybe I'll thaw him out though)

I wonder what happens to the close range attacks that Psi and Fire have instead of melee, though. I've been alting a low level Fire/Fire and I have to say it doesn't seem to need help in the damage department but Psi could probably use some love.

Psi has one melee attack in the entire set, so I have to agree.

It has 2 - Telekinesic Thrust is also a melee power.

Thorns is great but a bit dull until late on. I used Skewer and Impale as my only attacks (and Thorny darts) all the way to level 35. Ripper and Thorn Barrage are jaw-droppingly great attacks and in fact I got used to have just the 2/3 attacks, and they're good ones. I went entirely for single target attacks which saved me End early on. Impale turns out to be very useful taking down fliers and/or immobilising targets, Thorns also has Aim which none of the other sets have.

Yeah I read afterwards its a late bloomer alright. My chronic Altitis means I'll probably never see those powers though
And why oh why did I pick Hotfeet for a Dominator? I don't have the survivabilty to get away with it...

I think Fire is weak on control precisely because it depends too much on hard control, which is very limited in duration and recharge. Ice may get stray shots and that can sometimes be a problem on bad teams, but I believe it does much more damage mitigation over time than Fire does. Once Flashfire runs out, Cinders is still recharging and they're all gunning for you, what do you do? I have no idea if Bonfire is useful or not, though.
It's not like Ice is that weak on hard control either, with an AoE hold, sleep and immobilize. Those are just a lot more situational than Ice Slick and Arctic Air padded with Block of Ice, which is basically all I need for normal spawns. Ice Slick is very good out of the box too, which is nice for a level 12 power.
I quite like Thorns, btw. The damage is pretty good, although the animations are slow compared to /Ice, especially with having to redraw the thorns whenever you switch between primary and secondary. I think you're hurting for skipping Skewer.
Agree completely on me hurting for lack of skewer. Freespec will be switching Hotfeet to Skewer for sure
But with a Fire Dom and a Fire Controller currently on the go I have to say that Flashfire is up pretty quickly in terms of almost always having it available as an opener. The short duration is annoying though I agree. Really the hard controls do suffer until you pack em with SOs compared to the few slots some soft controls need (I've only had direct experience with Spectral Terror but what a great power).
I'd say Fire works much better as a Controller primary really thanks to Containment and a secondary that gives you more survivabilty.
My problem with fire control is the flashfire comes too quickly and is never topped by any of the other moves in the set, at least in my opnion. Once you have flashfire what is there left to dream for?
That said I wasn't much gunning for my primary in Ice after Ice Slick, but the ice secondry held more for me than the fire secondry does.

Flaming death munkies of course.
I cannae wait to have my babies.
I felt the same way, until I realised that pets were like PL'd n00bs, then I realised that 1 PL'd n00b in the team was better than 3

80% duration for hard controls really hurts Fire dominators too. I don't really mind it on the ST hold because it generally feels long enough anyway. If I had Fire/Thorns I'd probably skip acc slotting on Flashfire and Cinders and use them with Aim instead to be able to slot more duration and recharge. With /Fire I think my best option will be building for damage so I can wipe them out before the control runs out. I think it will actually be pretty good, just different. The damage early on is certainly amazing compared to my Ice/Ice and Plant/Thorn, and I haven't slotted any damage at all yet. Already soloed my first EB, which my ice/ice could probably not have done due to high endurance costs.
Ok sorry to post such a n00b question, i really should know as i have a lvl 40 dominator, but how does the primary set add to domination? Do you get a set ammount for each application of your holds in the same way we will now get 8 for each secondary attack?
I have tried looking up guides and threads but this work net connection is iffy to put it politely

But last year's bitter loving must remain

[/ QUOTE ]Not sure of that, but the 8 per secondary attack is wrong. It comes from misread I7 patchnote, that actually states that in I7 you get 8 more domination points per secondary attack in PvP.

2 points of domination for every attack, in primary or assault.
In a PvP zone or arena (only) you get 8 points for every attack *that hits* against a player (and only a player). I can usually build Dom in 20 seconds in PvP on test.

Huh, I could've sworn that was ranged - but at any rate, it does very little damage, so the general point remains.
"I know 653 ways to kill a man. Fist to the face is #56."
I admit that fire control relies to much on hard control and that this might suit a controller better but I can really recommend sticking to it. Jack Frost may have been fun as a pet but you'll forget all about him once you have yor '3 PLed noobs'. Even with just the three of em they deal great damage (as long as the pets are the same as the controller versions) and they are vicious as hell . Takes alittle getting used to their aggro range tho...
I think doms with psionic secondary, especially at low levels, will be using it more often after I7 has gone live. I've not yet tested it on the Test Server, but will soon.
@Under Control
For my fire/fire I love Fire Breath, Flashfire and Incinerate at the moment and that's it, I must play her more but the rest of the set seems quite uninspiring to me. With Ice I had the driving need to get my Greater Ice Sword. But fire I have the powers I really want already.
