Decent synergy with MA/SR?
Defenders and controllers are always good.
Sonic resonance would likely work rather nicely as the shields would give her resistance to compliment her defence, plus you'd get some nice -resistance powers so that your enemies take more damage. Sonic blast offers additional resistance debuffs as well as some nice control options including a disorient and cone sleep and knockback.

An Empath would probably be most helpful. You can heal her and double her defense by dropping Fortitude on her. This will boost her damage by 30% or so as well. This might be a bit boring for you though, as you'll mostly just be acting as a personal buffbot.
Maybe try a controller with Empathy secondary? You'd have the ability to be a bit more offensive and still able to buff and heal when needed.
/SR will get better with the release of I7 though. Defense powers should no longer scale depending on mob level so the defense value you have should be just as effective on a lv 1 mob as it would be on a lv 50 mob. This should improve /SR scrappers ability to play against higher level mobs.
Leveling my trollers I had two fire blaster friends and a spines scrapper.
Control and damage are fantastic together so I would probably go */Emp, */Rad or */Kin troller meself.
Scrappers tend to love Kin set .
As an SR scrapper I'd probably say either a FF or a Kin defender/troller or an Empathy one.
Boost that defence that's already there, you'll make her look all the more super. And Kin just compliments pretty much everything.
Of course you can never go wrong with a Rad or a Dark defender for taking away the foes glory

Hmm, looks like FF or /Kin defending then, heh.
Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'll fiddle with some builds later.
If you go defender remember the Dark blasts have -acc in them, which is almost like giving her defence

Dark/ or Rad/ defender, possibly Storm/ but that requires muchois experience.
All three have toHit debuffs that synergize with SR, healing to keep her standing longer, RES debuffs to make her hit 'em harder, and muchos other nicey stuff.

wish i could do that to mine..then switch her off again when she begins to whine ^__^ *awaits slap when she reads this

Granted, we're only level 6 but even know I'm feeling a bit squishy to really help her if she gets in over her head (indeed, during the flurry of math she was hurling at me last night, she grumbled about apparent weaknesses in the /SR set). So...I'm wondering, what sort of character do you think would duo well with a Scrapper like hers?
I'm thinking a Tanker, but that might be a bit TOO safe for her. A Blaster? Defender? I want to help, but at the same time I don't want to go swiping all the glory and making her feel redundant.

I say give it time. I've coupled a MA/SR and Dark/Dark before (with me being the MA/SR). It was in fact the other way around, as my gaming partner felt the Dark/Dark set to be not to her taste. Although SR is the weakest 2ndry in the scrapper set, it has its advantages...namely Elude. It carries a lot of toggles, however the MA set is one of the least endurance sapping primaries in the scrapper set.
However if she isn't completely satisfied with being an MA/SR, you may find either a Kinetic defender or Kin 2ndry controller would compliment your character.

Kinetics Kinetics Kinetics Kinetics Kinetics Kinetics Kinetics Kinetics Kinetics Kinetics Kinetics Kinetics Kinetics Kinetics
All Scrappers love kinetics, with kinetics you ain't just another Scrapper, Rock, you're a wrecking machine!
Well, a little more about my SR scrapper. Since I'm the one being talked about here. My melee/range defense will be hovering around 30% at 50. Even in I7 that won't bring me close to flooring the enemies, except for when I elude, which between hasten and quickness is up about 33% of the time.
Unfortunately as I understand it in I7 the minimum floored to-hit percentage of LTs, bosses, EBs and AVs is going to go up. So while it'll be easier (yet still impossible even with SR and pool powers when not using elude) to floor mobs, popping elude will mean I'd be taking more damage than in I6.
Also, I'm taking Aid Self at 44. It heals 40% every 10 seconds, and from my calculations that's almost half as much HP regen as a regen scrapper can throw out without hasten.
So I'm thinking:
- Forcefields will be great until I get elude and heavy SO slot my build cause they casually floor the mobs I'm fighting, but get less good later on when I'm eluding and they're already on their minimum anyway
- I can self heal eventually, and pretty damn well too (when are they nerfing Aid Self?) so would an empath really work that well in the long run?
That basically leaves sonic to buff resistance. This will always be handy. But she says it has annoying sounds. Maybe kinetics but that doesn't much help defense, I won't have any endurance problems in the long run (getting stamina and conserve power and slotting heavily for endredux), etc.
And yeah. I was way excited about SR until I realized without elude you top out in a realistic build at about 30% defense. Then I got even more depressed when I found out anyone can pop a purple inspiration and get almost as much or more.

[/ QUOTE ]See my post above. Dark, Rad and Storm all have great powers (although storm can be harmful even, if used badly) to complement /SR, and offer very varied tricks. Also, kin would be a great offensive booster, but is slightly lacking defensively.
You won't need defensive buffs with kinetics because it's the best damage boost going and it works best with melee characters. It's right to say that Force Fields will synergise well to help you survive longer but I don't think it would be the most fun.

You can't replace an empath with aid self . First of all it's interruptable, so it won't help you much when you're fighting. Also, Empaths are more than just heals. They have awesome single target buffs, like Fortitude(+dam, +def, +acc), recovery Aura (trust me, you'll have end problems when playing SR) and Adrenaline Boost(+recovery for end problems, +regen for healing, +recharge for getting elude back up much quicker).
Forcefields does have the obvious sinergy with Sr, but it only boosts +def. You won't have any combat heals and you'll run out of end every 3rd mob, if not sooner, before Elude.
I still say get an Empath... or a Rad. Rad is also pretty good. It has a combat heal, Accelerated Metabolism for +recovery and +recharge and good debuffs that will compliment your Defense powers.
Fire/kinetic controller. Fire/kinetic=ownage
Fire's main control comes from the flashfire+fire cages stun and immobilze combination, so if you use that combo on a mob with a boss in it, the ma/sr can run in and stun the left over boss in one go (stacking stuns between you two)
And well, kinetics is a scrappers best friend.
Other options could be illusion/empathy
But can't go wrong with fire/kinetics you'll be up there next to her amongst the mobs buffing, healing etc and basically destroying the groups with zero downtime at an insane rate!
Well, despite the advice given here, I played around a little and went for....a Mind/FF Controller.
Oh. My. DEITY.
I never, ever, ever, ever thought I'd take to a support Archetype, never mind so quickly. I'm only level 8 at the moment, but it's a lot of fun and the shields compliment her well; Auggy's still free to cause mayhem, but I keep her nice and safe by boosting her defense values and confusing/sleeping the mobs after her tail.
I'll post my build on the Controller forum later; I can see myself sticking with Deviant Flux for quite some time.
Thanks for your input anyway, guys.
For a Scrapper Kinetics is great. I'd go with a Kinetics defender as a Controller might remove the challenge slightly. Plus you'll get things like Speed boost & Fulcrum Shift earlier.
Been duoing a lot with my Kin/Dark. So far played with several types of scrapper, controllers, blasters & tanks. With blasters being the hardest because I tend to play in melee range.
This is a legendary idea, u must listen
be a mind/forcefield controller
minimal dmg by the mind, so they r just held etc and she wil be killing them so she gets credit for it
AND
FORCEFELD! it complements SR! its all+DEF, how handy is that!?
Illusion / emp troller.
50s
controllers: Ill rad , grav rad, fire kin, ice kin
blaster: ice em
scrapper: spines sr

I'd probably say mind for the AoE damage that MA lacks infact. Mind certainly has nice AoE control and with Terrify decent damage too

Mind/Kin. Scrapper can turn off all SR toggles as all the mobs will be mezzed and waste everything with kin damage and speed buff .
Ok, having recently reactivated my girlfriend decided to leap straight into an MA/SR Scrapper (almost completely recycling her MA/SR Stalker build, at that), whereas I went with Dark/Dark.
Granted, we're only level 6 but even know I'm feeling a bit squishy to really help her if she gets in over her head (indeed, during the flurry of math she was hurling at me last night, she grumbled about apparent weaknesses in the /SR set). Any advice for this would be massively appreciated.
