Details of "Bodyguard" Released
So..... Mr. Stalker AS's Mr. Mastermind with one guard, and he only takes 2/3'ds damage; which then sets my Bodyguard on Auto-Gank.
Ooooh....Nice
[Disclaimer: This is for the Going Rogue bit ]

I can see how Bodyguard is very powerful as a stance - just not sure how useful it's going to be when you want to attack as well...
[/ QUOTE ]
Keep Genin on Bodyguard; Jounin and Oni on Shred mode. 60% Res all with Triple Melee attacks on anyone who gets close.

Ah, this is the cunning bit. It will give you reason to use those attack powers in your Primary and Patron pools...
I really should do something about this signature.
Not impressed by this new bone. I don't use defensive as it gives less control to me. My default for all my pets is follow/passive. Stops them from going after things I want them to leave alone. This also stinks of masterminds are expected to play more blaster like. The only reason a Mastermind needs a shield of any sorts is when they go blast happy. If you let your pets do most of the damage, like they are supposed to, then the Mastermind rarely gets hit.
That depends on your secondary and playstyle. Some people may want to play thier MM more blaster like, this will let them do that. If not, you haven't lost anything.
More options is always to be welcomed.

Sounds like a pile of poo to me
Henchmen taunt would have been better.
After playing in Siren's the past couple of nights it would be really useful for PvP...
Personally I say - good thing (any bit of love they give us is better than a nerf!)

No one else feel this will just lead to the standard tactic of teleporting the MM away from his henchies and then attacking him while they catch up?
Can't see that happening in PvE very often.
Not everyone has TP foe strangely enough.

still gives you the chance to get away .. beats being one shotted by a blaster in orbit tho.

OK I've had a think about bodyguard for a bit now, and I actually think it could end up working as intended!
It's real use is in PvP to prevent 1-shotting, but requires you to have your pets in defensive follow.
I was worried about the PvE aspects, and in all honesty I can't see it making a huge difference to PvE.
The main issue PvE, is that there are only minimal situations where the mastermind actually has any agro, as the pets generate a lot themselves. The pets are still squishy and will not bodyguard each other (that would be awesomely overpowered!...3 or 4k hitpoints total anyone? )
The chars which will benefit most I suspect are Forcefield, as with Force Bubble up you generate a lot of agro pushing mobs away until the pets attack them (often with the AoE's from robots), so having bodyguard can spread the incoming damage. Dark when applying Darkest Night can draw an alpha strike, but I often send the pets in as I'm applying it, so they agro first anyway just as Darkest Night hits
Overall I think that the limited uses will be more beneficial to the PvP environment to prevent one-shotting while moving about, however you will be limited to supremacy range.
In PvE the benefits of focussed firing and using the 'Goto' command will mostly outweigh the bodygaurd advantages which will probably split your henchmen's fire too much on multiple targets.
Only time will tell....
Hellooo, tankmage anyone? People can use presence pool Henchies shooting as added bonus The player becomes the tank! Or something :P
Indeed. It isn't the pet-taunt I wanted, but can be utilized for similliar purposes.
I been trying abit yesterday putting my pets in def-follow mode. But even when 1 mob start shooting me, they instantly start hitting the mob 'as protecting their master'.
So a bind (def+follow) and keep spamming?

I believe that even if they are attacking in response to attack made against you they remain in def follow mode and you still benefit from bodyguard as long as they remain close enough. Prefer melee pets will be worse bodyguards.

Sending the pets in turns off bodyguard. Remember they have to be on defensive/follow. sending them in would mean a goto, an attack or aggressive command. All of which turn off bodyguard meaning you would still get splattered.

ok how? pet taunt would mean the pets draw the aggro away from you. This means you take the aggro to get benefit from the body guard or send the pets in turning body guard off.
As I understand it for this to have maximum value in PvE. (PvP is of no interest to me). I need to be taking the alpha strike myself, put myself in the front of the combat, and continue to draw aggro to me. I don't remember any of the top bond villains fighting hand to hand with members of an invading force. They send in the grunts and step out the back.
I was looking forward to I7. So far it seems to be a massive damp squib. Lots of fizz but no bang.
Suggested use for bodyguard:
Oops, I've accedently drawn aggro. Defend me my minions (puts a couple of pets into defensive follow).
If you never have a fowl-up you may never need it.

My fowl ups tend to be

MEGASPLAMMO
select hospital or supergroup base.
Since I have my pets on passive/follow to stop them going after the wrong target. I would need to switch them to defensive the second I spot the attack and as we all know damage is calculated at the start of an attack not the end.
I did say previously that you would have to be pretty nifty on the keybinds to get maximum benefit from Bodyguard.

to late. now the entire thread will need to be nuked.
Actually, unresistable damage doesn't count. It's a straight transfer of whatever damage a MM takes.
According to Castle, Stateside...
[ QUOTE ]
It takes the entire block of damage and apportions it by the ratios described. For the Mastermind, he then gets his Resistances applied, while the pets get no resistance to the shared damage.
In the case of unresistable damage, therefore, all damage is apportioned, then resists apply normally -- the unresisted portion is still unresisted, but it is reduced by the Bodyguard.
[/ QUOTE ]
So, in your example a snipe of 500 means the henches take 100 a piece. The MM takes 200 of which he can only resist (if he has any power that grant resistance like PFF) 140 points of.
If a Mastermind has henchmen on Bodyguard I doubt anything will be able to one-shot them. For instance, take this example from the US....
[ QUOTE ]
Let's make it very apparent of how good a thing this really is for Masterminds.
2000 pts of damage on you, all 6 pets in Bodyguard mode.
Total parts = 8 (2 parts for you and 1 part for each henchman)
For for you 2000 * (2 / 8) = 500 pts
OUCH! But at level 40, you are still on your feet.
For you henchies
2000 * ( 1 / 8) = 250 pts
Most vulnerable is Tier 1 pet. They have 505 Health at level 40. Tier 1 pet are at almost 1/2 Health. But they are still up. Your higher tier pets are in even better shape.
Now let's look at the results. You just to an attack of a magnitude that only an Arch-Villain/Hero can throw. You are hurt pretty bad, but you are still on your feet. You pets are in rough shape but still on their feet. And they are now responding to the damage in kind.
