freeze ray vs bitter freeze ray
They both have the same magnitude, hold lt's with one go and bosses stacked, either with itself or each other. Lost lt's and bosses have some hold protection so it takes more to hold them than normal enemies.
Lost have hold resistance, so it will take more than one attack to hold them. So do some other mobs, and bosses of course are harder to hold.
You should take both hold powers, so you can stack them and hold more powerful/resistant mobs.
I really should do something about this signature.

Take them both, stack them on a foe, smile at them being frozen
As to the level of the each hold ray's ability to hold, I dont know
Oh well if their both the same I'll probably just go for the simple one :/ hmm I dunno now. I have hasten+sithen speed which gives me soem really stupid recharges on both the holds :P. So spamming them is fine with just the one hold.
decisions decisions.
You can never have to many holds. Take them both and hold Lost/Rikti bosses and AVs.
There's not much point in taking the ice primary unless you are going to major on holds.

If I'm remembering correctly, Freeze Ray is one-second activation, Bitter Freeze Ray is three seconds, and I seem to remember the recharge and end cost being higher for the latter, since it also does some damage (but not much). If you're taking one, go Freeze Ray, and slot it up with recharges to spam it. I dropped BFR, but mainly because I'm /Dark and have another, quicker-firing hold anyway, but I know another Ice/Kin who's said to me he'll probably be dropping it too, as he barely uses it. That animation that goes with it is just a pain, and really feels out of place in the rest of the ice set, with it all being so quick-firing.
With my blapper, I use BFR for two things, as a battle opener, and to lock down bosses. the animation time makes it hard to use in battle most of the time, but it's still invaluable for boss soloing.
Of course, a corruptor gets more defensive tools, which could potentially render it useless.
Hmm, I think I'll stick to just feeeze ray then. I don't really have room nor slots for both really.
You need both for pvp in my opinion, but maybe not so needed in pve.

That would be me. The main problem is fitting things in to the build - there's a number of 'juggle' powers - BFR, Ice Storm, Hover etc. BFR is great for minimising boss damage but apart from that initial shot ... I find I hardly ever use it.

I actually find the reverse is true (but I do truly SUCK at PvP) - BFR as an opening hold to stack is great vs bosses in PvE, but 3 seconds is a looong time in PvP... plus I tend to find in PvP that if one hold won't do the job, 2 probably won't either... the slow effect of ice + siphon speed tends to give people more problems (YMMV).

Exactly what I've found. Generally, if I CAN hold as a Corruptor, I only need one to do it, and I have no chance of stacking holds over anyone's mez protection. I barely use my Dark hold in PvP as a result. The only exception to that is people who have Acrobatics as their only mez protection, but for a Kin with Hasten and Siphon Speed, I'd imagine they could probably cycle a slotted Freeze Ray back so quickly, it'd not be much different than waiting for that three-second animation to play.... except that in the mean time, you can be getting some damage done.
Even as the slower Ice/Dark, back before I had my Dark hold, I pretty much never used BFR in PvP. I had better defensive measures to be taking in those three seconds. It might well be quite different for a Blaster, but as a Corruptor, I find there are more worthwhile things you could be doing if the first hold misses or doesn't work.
Well I ended up taking both on Flicknife and works well. Using them both soloing an AV is quite doabale as you can pretty much perma hold it, even ones like Infernal go down easy this way.
Imo bitter freeze ray isn't worth it- animation time is way to long. It is good for hold stacking but you can also just stack freeze ray on its own as the recharge for freeze ray is very fast. Run Hasten, freeze ray slotted with 2 acc 2 hold 2 recharge, or 2 acc 1 hold 3 recharge if you wana hold stack.

Perma-holding an AV with a Corruptor? o_O
Or are we talking about perma-holding an Elite Boss?

lmao was thinking that myself. No way ice/kinetics is THAT good.
Well tis doable, tbh I have an easier time holding infernal on my corr than I do on my dominator.
Course I also suspect that Infernal is weak against cold attacks.
freeze ray ftw.
bitter freeze ray will be the first thing i ditch in a respec. Slow animation, poor damage. Take ice storm instead. As for pvp, i disagree. A 3 second animation for such a poor result, would just make you easy pickings.
Yeah with the changes to rains and aoe, ice storm will be worth while again, rather than just using it as a ghetto aoe fear.

I find it more useful than BFR, even as a ghetto aoe fear (respecced out of BFR and loving it).

There's a deal of difference between holding and perma-holding, though - and only a Dom can technically (feasibly) permahold an AV, and only them during domination. Even then, I think it'd take two Doms to do it successfully. Solo Corruptors can only really hold AVs during the "triangle-down" phase, as soon as mez-resist goes up you've got no chance (unless, as I said, you're only facing Elite Boss-class Infernal and not AV class Infernal).

Does one hvae a higher magnitude? reason I ask is I tried holding some lost luitenants and no matter how hard I tried I always fail. So I'm thinking of getting bitter freeze ray instead of the normal one wehen I respec.
