PvP For an Empath
From an enemy perspective, you're the weak link in the chain when grouped with Tankers and Scrappers. Left alone, you would dramatically increase the longevity of your wards. You should expect to get targetted often.
Your only defense is power pools, epics, and heavily slotted attacks. Anything for +Defense (stops TP landing), +Resistance (limits damage). Add in Tactics and Assault for some status resists and perception bonus. Stop by Sirens Call and when Heroes have control buy some limited Temp Powers to round out your survivability - IR Goggles and Cryo Armour may help some.
Masterminds suffer from the same problem, as do Blasters, Corruptors, Controllers and Dominators. We're targets to take down hard and fast before we do our thing.

OK, I went into Warburg last night with 4 tanks and a scrapper from my sg. I proceeded to egt held and killed, tp'd and killed or just plain killed.
Are we doomed to have to avoid PvP zones or is there hope. The free for all nature just made it suicidal to leave the safe area.
I have never PvP before so I am thinking that some of the clever and Arena hardened Empaths out there may have some suggestions for me.

In large groups you will be just fine, obviously your one of the main targets being weak in defence and useful to a group while standing.
Team with a few controllers and you will become 2nd or 3rd on hit list rather than 1st.

While this may be true pre-Epics, if you look at a typical team match, order of preference seemed to be ...
Defender
Controller
Blaster
Scrapper
Tanker

Stone Tanker

Some guidelines
1) NEVER stand still. That should keep you alive alot longer. SS arround, Fly arrond, Jump arround. Just NEVER stand still, its like holding a sign saying easy target.
2) Allways be prepared, bring BF's and so on.
3) Its easier to be in teams
4) PvP is much faster than PvE, you only have a split second to think.
5) Start learning what powers are in the game and what they do, so you can react acordingly.
6) Remember to heal yourself.

I just wanted to say thankyou fire ball, who ever you are.
You have improved these forums manifold .
Well, I can't speak from experiencing empathy PvP myself. However, I've met groups teamed with empaths and might I add that an empath and a blaster is the worst kind of match-up I've ever faced as a controller. Worst for me that is, before I could even think about wiping out the empath, the throughly buffed blaster had me whacked. XD
I couldn't get to the blaster either, not with the buffs the empath provided. ;P This was one heck of a combinaton and I wasn't the only one having trouble most of the other AT's got their rear-ends handed to them. ;P
Invisibilty? Would that help? (don't know if it gets supressed by dealing buffs and heals)
Invisibility can help unless the person after you has perception powers, I've got superior invisibility and was spotted every time.

7) Watch myself, G-Zeus or Empath play in a PvP Zone.
PVP is doable. But you will be a target for any good teams.
If they leave you alive it makes it alot harder to kill the rest of the team. As Imaginary said, keep moving - it's your only defence really.
Oh and work with your team, if someone is hounding you and stopping you doing your job tell you team. They can then proceed to beat the [censored] outta him/her and you can get back to heals and buffs
When PvP was announced, I tried to build my Empath for PvP so he can last longer than a minute. I've ended up focusing on End and Health Regen, taken Defense and tactics from the Leadership pool, and because my char is electic secondary powers, I focusing on end drains too. Electric burst is pretty painful now Popping Blues like they're in a troll rave..

It helps as you can buff and heal while being hidden. Put the good groups have members with tactics or empaths with clearmind and so on. They will spot you if you get close.

Before S4 I was told by the PVP guru's that empaths suck in the arena, they would rather team with rad/rad. Matter of fact this is cow poo.
Empaths were one of the surprise builds (along with bubblers) as a well played Empath can cause havoc. It means more or less permanent endurance and health to other team members while you are alive.
Your worst enemy is being held, followed by moving slowly, standing still.
Always move. Always be aware of the enemy. Always try and team with someone with clear mind or keep a good stash of break frees.
In the wrong team/scenario any AT will die in pvp, its inevitable. Empaths are no weaker that other defenders and the ability to heal makes you a little less vulnerable than some others.
I'm sure you can PvP an Empath. There's even an empath in the top ten duelers (MaXimillion). Although MaX's build is pretty offensive and I'm sure his whirlwind works pretty well defensively in there too.

You can PVP an empath (with an empath build() but you need a decent team to do it and keep the jerks off you

Its your computers fault
Its your ISPs fault

Actually this is not true. An Empath certainly can cause no havoc because of his buffs but only to maintain the performance curve of a PvP team within battle. However a PvP empath needs some significant alterations to his build compared to a well rounded empath for both PvE PvP and Empaths certainly were no surprise in S4 and right now there are more issues rising for Empaths with the rumoured 50% acc in PvP

The most feared and important defender sets in PvP teams are Kinetics and storm sets...the storm defender set is the ultimate Havoc for a PvP team for a simple reason..it might not buff end or defense or recovery but puts a -acc that gives a severe edge to the team that has a storm set amongst its ranks...the storm set is one of the few sets out there that is almost invulnerable to the tp foe trend since uppon tp the hurricane kills accuracy of the tper and surrounding people waiting plus putting knockback...as for the kinetics set is far more prefered to the empathy set since it gives much more useful buffs than an empath...speed boost being one of them that severely increases the DPS delivery of a well rounded PvP team..
As for bubblers...with the ED and bubbler nerf they have just become easy prey since autohit powers lock them down and turn toggles off....clouds...spectral terror ftw....

When s4 started (before I5) Rad was much more powerfull this is the important powers:
Enervation Field: It debuffed damage received and ups damage done. The value is lower now.
Lingering Radiation: It had about a third of the duration and the - recharge was much better. This was by far the best slow in the game, since the recharge was floored. Cap is 1/5 recharge and 1 allmost reached this cap.
The guru's was right when they said it, the powers have changed so its much different now.
But I must admit that the bubbles thing did supprise.

I spent many an hour teaming with max and I'd say the best tip to being an empath in PVP is 'SHOW NO MERCY!' (memories of max running in and blackstar'ing them all to smithereens)
Not had the kahones to take my empath or any other of my alts into Warburg or a PVP zone yet.
This is obviously a noob question here but when blapped in these zones (as i will be) do you incur the normal out of mission debt?
no debt from a death from PvPing in a PvP zone
Cheers TG
In that case , here i come !
PvP is entirely do able on an Empath. I remember going into RV a few months back and just having a blast. A few guildies decided to attack the turrets that day and well, one member led to another. Anyhow, long story short we kept having a Stalker grief us but after I learned some of his tricks I was was able to give him just as much back, even when he brought his brute buddy in. Here are some of the things that helped me:
Inspirations : Trust me, they are using em too. Even with HA you still want to have a few greens on you for oh snap moments, purples are a great boon as well. I forget how break frees work with DR
Movement: Stalkers have to be able to plant that AS on you to make you and easy kill, heck, most Melee toons who wish to destroy you need to be close enough. Use your secondary to your advantage, jump and blast so you don't plan and loose your momentum.
Mez: Smoke'm if you got'm
Know: Knowing that your a target can be used to your advantage. Use this to route the enemy near your team. Remember, buffing and jumping works too.
Temp Powers: There are a great deal of temp powers that will help you. Anything that adds +def is always nice, heck even wedding band is helpful. I found the jetpack particularly useful since I have super speed. Made pursuit easier.
Have Fun: Remember, doing stupid and wild things are fun and sometimes they really pay off.
That's all I have to say on that, I hope some of it helps. I'm sure I said something useful somewhere in there XD
Dreaded Wail hits things freakin' hard.. i like to hit things freakin' hard... so.. id go Wail... SAVE THE WAILS!!!! - Solar_Lunata
