Solo play and Defenders
rad/rad is a good solo defender. good buffs and fast attacks
Dark/dark (actually dark/anything) is good for soloing. You will be able to massivly reduce your enemies accuracy, boost your own damage, and do a bit of controlling as well. You'll be able to heal if you need to, although it is a to-hit heal, so it's a good idea to stick a couple of accuracy enhancements in it.
Rad and kinetics are also good soloers. Not to sure about storm, though I suspect it may be due to the debuffs. I don't think O2 boost is self heal though.
Also, I've found it is dead easy to get on a team with a debuffing defender late in the game, when you really need to team, and I imagine given the recent changes, before long Kinitics players will be treated like some sort of gods, to be given shiney things in exchange for speed boost.
Dead Calm's Defender Manifesto
My Rad/Rad build cant solo, well unless its freaks and I take it slow. Best solo build used to be FF/Energy, but its probably Trick Arrow/* now, as its got control, debuffs and doesn't really rely on anyone else.
that said Dark/Dark is always a good choice and at higher levels having a pet puts it way ahead of the others for solo play.
"Well, they found my diary today.
They were appropriately appalled
at the discovery of the eight victims
They're now putting it all together.

with one leg missing
Eight legs, one body, silk,
spider, brilliant!"

Those in the know have always treated us like gods. Those who knew me at low levels sacrificed many blue shiny things in my name.
Except for the few who try and arrest me for dealing speed. For some reason they feel that there is something wrong about using addictive powers on scrappers.
I can't speak for high levels, but getting from levels 1-14 was -so- fast for a rad/rad defender (much faster than with a Tanker). The buffs/debuffs are very handy for solo play, and you get a nice range of offensive powers and a basic heal too.
You can make a nice Offender out of prety much anything coupled with Kinetics.
It's possible to solo with an empath tho it's not easy. First 15 levels are ok, after that it takes serious time. I'd suggest staying away from this build unless you plan on doing a lot of missions with teams.
On a side note Empaths seem to be the most popular defenders in terms of invites for teams (at least in my experience, my kinetic doesnt get as many invites but that could just be cus im a lower lvl) so if you do want to team you'll always have the option...

One thing I've noticed with my Kin/Elec is that the 13% end reduction feels like a lot more ... I've always been able to sol, but now I don't have to rest between mobs anywhere near as much.

Kinetics RESTING??? Yeesh, whats wrong with you man! Get that Transference slotted for recharge and laugh at downtime.
I solo some missions but lacking any great offensive power I tend to play the old "pick them off one at a time and take several hours" method. My only offensive powers (apart from language) are Mental Blast, Psionic Lance and Telekinetic Blast all with two slots with 40+ in them (I dont count brawl as it is not slotted). Providing I can hover out of melee range then I can almost be guaranteed to manage it.
However playing solo is just not as much fun

Although Kinetics/Psi tend to make everyone but DA scrappers run away screaming once they realise you have 3 Endurance Drain SO's in transferance .

A kinetics power ... psi is great in PvP and once all their end is gone, even DA/stone will run away ... as the OP said, Kin is great .... coupled with pretty much anything (don't like psi ever since I got 3 levels of robot missions in a row, probably down to the stupid origin/contacts I chose at low level. It is great in PvP though)

problem with storm defenders and soloing is that endurance can be a bit of an issue early on... makes it quite hard till you get stamina I think... but the debuffs/slows/knockback are ace so long as you don't mind taking 2 days to complete your kill all mission

Good point mate, however, being a kinetics defender I remember the characters who have shouted, "WHAT KIND OF HEALER DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?"

If you want to solo, but would like blasting powers, why not create an illusion/kinetics controller. My pets often blast more than some of my blaster friends

I find my rad/elec to very soloable indeed.I play on unyeilding and just use the pulling technique with rad infection, once they're all bunched I use my elec AoE's to drain their end in 2 shots and then just rinse and repeat.Very easy and not an awfull lot of risk. Some bosses are a nightmnare tho and take ages to kill.
Overall I'm very pleased with my defenders solo ability,I reckon he'll be cack tho in PvP
rad/dark/kin/storm are good soloers. Due to the nice debuffs and buffs (although storm lacks a self heal) with forcfied its not to good a solo, due to the lack of self heal and well defence isn't to impressive on bubbles. It all really depends on your playstyle. On my kinetics i can solo invincible missions quite easily, however im a real offender now.
I suddenly got offensive at level 32 this last week
Mr. Fulcrum Shift is your friend (but curses on the damage cap!)
Come join the SNHS. There are at least half a dozen lvl 20+ dark/dark defs. Me included.
All 3 of my defenders can solo just fine (Rad/Sonic 33, Dark/Dark 50, Kin/Psy 50). Of the 3 I would say the Rad/Sonic is the best soloer. The -res from EF and the attacks means stuff dies vey quickly indeed. I think Dark/Sonic would be quite good too.

Hey, im new to CoH, and have a question about defenders.
Id like to start one, cause i wouldnt mind being able to cast a heal now and then, but i also wanna be able to solo good, means doing damage at a 60/65% of a blaster.
What could be a good choice for me to pick, when starting one? As primary and secondary?
