Rocket Boots Costume Piece

Hi there,

Will rocket boots fire only when a travel power is activated? Does Combat Jumping count?

Wasn't planning on taking a travel power, and thought the boots would account nicely for the height and control of combat jumping. (Knockback IO sink for DM/DA Scrapper).

Many thanks in advance for your sharing your knowledge!

Cheers,

Rocket boots, IIRC, will only fire when a flight power is activated. So Hover, Flight, and the Peacebringer equivalents are the only ones that will trigger it (plus group flight, either as the initiator or as a recipient).

And they are just for show. They do not help in any way, just a costume piece.

Aw, crumbs.

Oh well. I guess I'll use the cyborg boots instead and rationalize it that way. Shame I already bought the recipe.

I wonder why they didn't make it work for the leaping pool too?

Fraznat frickin' rabble robble.

P.S. Thanks for the reply!

Piston boots IIRC are the costume piece for SJ.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

Ah. Thanks!

Does the dust cloud when landing still reflect the secondary colour of the boots?

Does the effect fire with CJ as well? If not, I guess I'll just stick with the cyborg piece, then.

Piston Boots animate for any kind of jumping. Rocket Boots activate for any kind of flying. Winged Boots activate for any kind of movement. (Winged Boots are conceptually for running, but there's no real difference between running and other kinds of movement)

I stand enlightened. Do they go for roughly the same price on the market?

Nah, only rocket boots are a bit expensive.

I remember back when Inventions were first introduced, those costume parts were priced in the millions. I still have a Bone Wings recipe I could have sold for a fortune... and instead saved for a friend who was looking at trying the game. Unfortunately due to circumstances he couldn't play, but I'm still keeping them saved for him...

Don't forget the jet packs (Raptor Pack, Gold Bricker Pack, Jingle Jet, etc.) The Rocket Boots fire when those are running as well. In fact, it looks really cool with the Raptor Pack, almost as neat as the Rocket Boots/Tech Wings combo.

What do piston boots do when they animate? I have a character wearing them who uses CJ as his travel power and I've never noticed them do anything, even when using the jump pack. I always thought it was weird that all the other boots do something and the piston boots didn't.

Arc #271637 - Welcome to M.A.G.I. - An alternative first story arc for magic origin heroes. At Hero Registration you heard the jokes about Azuria always losing things. When she loses the entire M.A.G.I. vault, you are chosen to find it.

Actually, Piston and Rocket Boots have a hidden proc that does energy damage when you land on top of the mobs!

What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

Piston Boots add 'rings' to your trail as you jump. They can be very hard to see, though.

Pay close attention, or maybe up your graphics for a bit, and you should see the rings.

Piston Boots' most notable effect is the dust/steam cloud it kicks up when you land. This could be from making a jump or something as simple as walking over a curb.

The cloud's intensity is in relation to the secondary color of the boots: the brighter the color, the more noticeable the cloud.

For note: the cloud used to be a pretty awful color, which lead to many calling them Poot Boots instead.

Rocket boots are cool. They get even more pimp when you Group Fly your Robot minions.
