Why do those Rularuu eyeballs hurt so much?

The eyeballs are all ridiculously accurate which means that you're defense buffs aren't really going to be doing much and they deal energy damage, which */Dark resists about as well as the Ban Pan zombies resist fire.

To expand on this a bit, they have +100% tohit. That's like taking old Focused Accuracy, slotted, and tripling it. If that wasn't bad enough, their eye beams debuff defense. To add insult to injury, they have a recharge slow as well, so they're nuking Dark Regen's recharge.
Rularuu Sentries (Eyballs) are exceptionally nasty buggers.
Rularuu Watchers have something on the order of +100% tohit, with pure energy blasts that also further debuff your defense. It doesn't matter if you're an SR scrapper that just hit Elude, these things can still blast you out of the sky. You can go pick on a -5 and they'll still hit with unnerving regularity. Dark Armor has very low resistance to energy. Add it all up, and a large spawn of Watchers are a serious threat pretty much regardless what level they are. If it's any consolation, a Spines/Dark scrapper should rip through pretty much every OTHER type of Rularuu impressively.
Rule number six of an empathy defender is NEVER underestimate a blaster's ability to die. I don't care if he has CM, Fort, both RAs, bubbles (both FF and Sonic), and is fighting next to a Storm defender with hurricane on. If there is a way to die in that situation, the blaster will find it.
Sounds like some fun farming!

That *is* nasty. I didn't notice it, of course, since I lack the power, but I can see how it'd really suck.

Whoa. Hold the phone. You are playing a Dark Armor character... and you skipped Dark Regeneration? How does that even work?
I mean, you're free to play your characters however you want, but I can't wrap my brain around that one. It's like playing without your mez protection toggle.

Man I hate those eyeballs......I used to do solo Zulu missions with my MA/SR before ios and after ED.....ow...ow...and oh yeah....ow.

It's a Toggle Man inspired build and Dark Regeneration is a click power, so obviously it does not have it. With 17 or so toggles running simultaneously I can tell you it works very tediously, but I'm level 49 (and a third of the way from there to 50) after approximately a year and a half of playing it off and on.
I'm debating whether or not to use the alternate build option to create a more useful Spines/Dark build after I hit 50 with it. But I'm so close to accomplishing 50 with the build that I can't turn back now.

this is why they have their own dedicated zone, if you throw up some eyeballs in regular zones there would be a riot. I guess the thinking is if they can't get to'em they can't complain about'em.
It'd be nice to see the shard a more regular haunt for 50's and lately with out much new content showing up i've seen a lot more people doing the two nighter TF's out in the shard. I think if they tweaked the geysers some you could see a lot more activity out there.

On the plus side, at least they added the Jet Pack vendor there for those of us without TP/Fly who have trouble with those.
In all honesty. It wouldn't have mattered if he had a true /DA build IOed out. Those overseers would of still gutted him. I got on my BS/WP scrapper to go hunt them for the badge once. The overseers where blue or green to me and everything else was grey. I figured it would be a walk in perez park. Wrong!! This was in FBZ. Who knows how bad it would have been in chantry. People do RWZ challenges. I'd like to see a storm place challenge. Lol

I miss the Rularuu portals that would pop open in random zone and a line of mobs would march out preshadow shard release.

ParadigmX City help the city.
Also, keep in mind, that normal NPC's have 50% accuracy (bosses 75%), so what "feels" normal is getting missed 1/2 the time (or more if you have any +defense). The extra +tohit these guys have knock that down to only missing 5% of the time.
The shard is a fun place. If you're looking for something different, it's worth exploring. I used to take Shred Monkey out there regularly (no travel power). It's a completely different game... sometimes it's harder to get to the mission then actually completing it.
I gotta make pain. I gotta make things right. I gotta stop what's comin'. 'Least I gotta try.

This is a tad bit of an exaggeration. I won't claim Rularuu Overseerers will ever be easy, but I well IO'd out /DA character shouldn't get gutted. Granted that assumes you have Dark Regneration, this "toggle man" concept is a big challenge onto it's self. I will say I find CoF very useful against them, but you've got to move into melee range very quickly, as Overseerers have crazy range on their energy blasts.

Strategy plays a big role in fighting Rularuu. For Overseers, it means not letting them peg you from a distance, as -defense will stack very quickly. Agro-ed mobs won't close in on you, they prefer to peg you from range.

Storm Palace Challenge replaced RCS challenges. The problem with these is the lack of +4 spawns. Storm Palace Challenge really isn't much of a challenge on a decent IO build. Granted, come I16 all this is out the window.
Aid Self helps enormously here. Once you get close enough, their Chomp attack becomes a fairly predictable source of damage, so you can time your heals correctly if need be.

Those were sort of suck, though. The massive +toHit that the eyes have means those spawns were hitting (and, where possible, mezzing) characters well over their level. Part of it was definitely that players weren't as knowledgeable as they are today (at least forum-going types), but there was a lot of griping about people being killed by green and sometimes gray mobs. (Back then, there were no Break Frees - if you were mezzed solo, you were hosed.)
Now, if all the mob factions did that, it'd be one thing, but since it was a total surprise that these new guys could do this, and they were popping out and wandering around open zones, it generated something of a backlash.
One thing I did like about those invasions were how they actually wandered around patrol style. It upped the annoyance factor given how dangerous they could be, but it had a nice "hi, we're scouting you out" feel to it.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind it as an invasion alternative, with some sort of trigger (perhaps completing some of the Shard TFs).

Ugh Des, even with a great IO build my broadsword/dark loathes those buggers. Sure, I can kill a spawn, with a combination of build, skill, and luck on spawn organization/placement, but it's just not worth it.
If my memory serves me correctly, the rularu invasions also spawned rather high. I distinctly remember being in Atlas Park and having a portal open nearby with VERY purple conning enemies step out.
I was playing a tank, so I jumped in anyway and promptly got spanked . . . but I liked it!
I would like to see a return of the Rularu invasions and I think having it triggered off of one or more Shard TF completions is a great idea.

These days they could presumably make "raid only" versions of them that work like invasion Rikti and raid Zombies, so that they would be always treated as even-level.
They'd still be kind of wicked, but not "hi, I'm +6 to you on top of it."

Keep in mind I'm refuting Rieze's claim that an IO'd out Dark Armor scrappr would get gutted, something just disagree with. I wasn't suggesting that they were easy. My DM/DA heavily IO'd so she handles them fairly well. My BS/DA on the other hand, I haven't IO'd out and she fairs poorly against them.

Actually, the Storm Palace 'only' goes up to +3s. Of course, back then people were still rocking SOs. For a build like that, a +3 spawn of Brutes (2 bosses) is plenty strong to flatten you.
Especially when one of the minions uses that nasty AoE... Good times.
Cat likes playing with his Rularru toys, unless they put a -regen component in one of the mobs, they aren't too much trouble.
It has been ages since i ran a lap of the Storm Palace, I ought to do that again soon.

I've farmed those overseers 3 times for the rularuu weapons. The last time I parked my 45 broadsword/regen scrapper, invited an axe tanker along, and did all the farming with Mouse Police, my 50 katana/regen with decent defense and hover/fly (separate account from my broadsword/regen, luckily -- she already had the badge of course). I farm them around the Chantry and they're mostly at least a level or 2 below me... still kind of a pain but I think I only died once or twice. Takes an hour or so, I guess.
Glad I helped someone else to the badge though, not every AT can get it as easily. ^_^
my lil RWZ Challenge vid
I recently took a trip into the Shadow Shard or whatever it's called just for kicks and tracked down a group of -3 eyeball minions with my Spines/Dark Armour scrapper. Now, this is a Toggle Man inspired build so it doesn't exactly lack defensive abilities. It's not the toughest character on the block but I wouldn't expect any group of -3 minions to pose a threat until I ran into this group of eyes and they killed me disturbingly fast for -3 minions.
